Text | Descendants of Malon Monk Generation No. 1 1. MALON1 MONK was born 1737. He married (1) UNKNOWN. She was born Abt. 1737. Notes for MALON MONK: Name has been spelled Malon, Mahlon, Menon, and Menin. Children of MALON MONK and UNKNOWN are: 2. i. WILLIAM2 MONK, SR., b. 1763, Edgefield District, SC; d. 1825. ii. RICHARD MONK. Generation No. 2 2. WILLIAM2 MONK, SR. (MALON1) was born 1763 in Edgefield District, SC, and died 1825. He married (1) JERUSHA PARISH. He married (2) JERUSHIA PARRISH 1789 in Bulloch County, Georgia, daughter of HENRY PARRISH and MARY MONK. She was born 1773 in Cumberland County, North Carolina, and died 1857 in Bulloch County, Georgia. Notes for WILLIAM MONK, SR.: William Monk was a Revolutionary War soldier. He had a large family connection in South Ga. He was born in Edgefield Dist., SC in 1763 and died at his home in Bulloch Co., Ga. about 1825. He was a son of Malon (sometimes spelled Menon and Menin) Monk. The family moved to Burke Co., Ga. in 1777-78 and later to Bullock. Richard Monk, brother of William, was appointed administrator of their father's estate on Nov.10, 1808. William married Jerushia Parrish, born 1773, sister of Henry Parrish, Sr. William Monk served as a private in the Georgia Line during the war. A few years after his death, his widow and unmarried children moved to Lowndes Country, also others of the family connection. She is shown in the 1830 census of Lowndes as the head of a family consisting of self, 3 sons and 2 daughters. In 1850, she was living with her daughter, Rhoda and her husband James Mathis. She died about 1857 and is buried at Union Church. William Monk 1763-1825 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- William Monk was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina, the son of Malon Monk. His mother's name in unknown as yet. The family moved to Burke County, Georgia in about 1777-78, and later to Bulloch County. William married Jerushia Parrish, a cousin, born 1773, the daughter of Henry Parrish, Sr. and Mary Ann Monk, in about 1788. William was a Revolutionary Soldier and served as a private in the Georgia Line. His name appears in the D.A.R. Patriot List Book on page 474. Two of his sons, Malachi (1805-1886) and William, Jr. 1809-1855) served as private's in Captain Hamilton W. Sharpe's volunteer troop of Lowndes County militia during the Indian War in 1836. A few years after her husband's death in 1825, Jerushia and her youngest children moved to Lowndes County along with other family connections, including her daughter, Rhoda and her husband James Mathis and their family. She is shown as head of household in the 1830 Census of Lowndes County living with three sons and two daughters. Jerushia Parrish Monk was living with her daughter Rhoda and her son-in-law James in the 1850 Census, and died at their home in 1857. She is buried at Union Church Cemetery. Notes for MOSES TOMLINSON: Moses was a member of Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church as early as 1845 or before. By 1849 he had transferred his membership to Bethany Church, Clinch county. He served in the Indian War as a private under Capt. David Johnson, being mustered in at Alapaha (now Lakeland), Nov. 1, 1839 for three months, and discharged at Fort Gilmer ( near Fargo ) Dec 31, 1839. He also volunteered at Suwannee Springs, FL. on Nov. 1, 1841 , in Capt. John J. Johnson's company in the Florida Militia, and was mustered out on Dec. 5, 1841.
