- Onis L. Hicks Irick, 86, formerly of Morgan Branch Road, Roan Mountain, died
Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an
extended illness.
Mrs. Irick was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Lawrence
and Hattie Cook Hicks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Thomas Irick, two sons, John Allen Irick and James Irick, and
a sister, Ellen Shell.
Mrs. Irick was a member of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church. She was a
retired employee of Bemberg and North American Rayon Corporation after 32
years of service.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda L. Singleton, Roan Mountain, and Mary
McClean, Fries, Va.; a son, C.L. Irick, Rogersville, Tenn.; nine
grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Hicks,
Elizabethton, and Paul Hicks, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Dorothy Hopson,
Elizabethton, and Ina Miller, Roan Mountain; and a half sister, Nancy Price,
Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Irick will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, April 25,
in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the
Rev. Keith Gwyn and the Rev. Gary Perkins officiating. Music will be under the
direction of the Just Pilgrims Trio. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Friends may call
at the residence, 310 Morgan Branch Road, Roan Mountain, at anytime. Graveside
services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Happy Valley
Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arland Singleton, Paul McClean and R.E. Jarrett.
Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the
cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday.
