- Narvel Whitehead, 78, 3308 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Whitehead was a native of Hampton and a son of the late Henry and Lucy Morton Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Whitehead was a retired store room clerk at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member and deacon of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church and a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a Disabled Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hughes Whitehead; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ned Isaacs, Hampton; a son, Alvin Whitehead, of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Shirley Whitehead, Johnson City, and Louis and Dale Whitehead, Hampton; two sisters, Hazel Malone and Crystal Johnson, both of Hampton; a granddaughter, Beth Amy Isaacs; and three aunts, Tina Humphreys and Julie Miller, both of Elizabethton, and Arizona Hopson, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Narvel Whitehead, 78, 3308 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, March 16, 2002, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church (Simerly Creek Road), Elizabethton, with the Rev. Sam Ferguson, the Rev. Shane Waters and the Rev. Bill Jaynes officiating. Music will be provided
by John Hensley and the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Interment will be in the Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, will be Joe Street, Greg Whitehead, Mike Hill, C.J. Blevins, Jack Jaynes, Jeremy Whisenhunt, Glen Cates, Floyd Reeser, Ben Williams and George Roberson. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Lewis, Spurgeon Smith, Fate Whitehead, Horace Calhoun, Eddie Orr, Truman Clark, Dr. Frank Johnson, Bill Cullers, Bill Davis, Harold Street, Jay Smith, Gilbert Honeycutt and Lawrence Whitehead.
