    Horace Arnold "Hoss" Broome, Jr., age 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 04, 2015 from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, surrounded by his family. Horace was born in Roda, Virginia to the late Horace Arnold Broome and Cora Lee Nave Broome. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Whitney Shea Broome; and a brother, Bob Broome.

    Horace founded Broome Real Estate in 1959, which is the longest, active Real Estate firm in Elizabethton. He was the first President of the Elizabethton Board of Realtors and the past President of East Tennessee Board of Realtors. He was the managing broker for FHA in East Tennessee for 25 years and was instrumental in the zoning for the City of Elizabethton during the years of 1969-1970. He was a member of the Toastmasters, a member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166, the American Legion Watauga Post #49, the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, the Shriners and Masons. He designed and held the patent on the 10-E-C Tag Logo. He was a member of Elizabethton High School and Milligan College football teams. He was an avid Elizabethton High School and University of Tennessee football fan, Peyton Manning and Jason Whitten, were his favorites. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, but had served as a Deacon for many years at Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in both World War II and the Korean Confict. He enjoyed his comradery with "The Lingerfelt Pharmacy Boys." He loved gardening, was an avid fisherman, hunter and was affectionately known as the "Catfish man of Watauga Lake." Hoss set a fashion trend with his bibbed overalls.

    Those left to cherish his memory, include his wife of 68 years, Grace Lee Hopson Broome, of the home; two sons, Horace Arnold "Bubba" Broome, III and Rick Lee Broome and wife Teresa; one daughter, Tana Star Johnson and husband Mike; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Danielle Broome; and two brothers, William "Bill" Broome and Carroll Broome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Horace Arnold "Hoss" Broome, Jr. will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Garry Edwards. Special comments will be provided by Dr. John Martin. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior the service on Tuesday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    ELIZABETHTON - Carroll L. Broome, age 87, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.

    A native of Elizabethton, he was a son of the late Horace Arnold and Cora Nave Broome. Carroll was a 1948 graduate of Elizabethton High School and graduated from East TN State University. He retired as a Vice-President with Citizen's Bank. Carroll was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton where he had served as a member of the Administrative Board and was a past Sunday School teacher. Carroll served as a member of the Elizabethton School Board; had been a member of the Civitan Club of Elizabethton and the Betsy Squares (square dancing). He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting and loved to be around people. He was also a University of TN football fan.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Garrison Broome; sons, James Lavan Broome and David Brian Broome, an infant grandson, Austin James Frazier; Brothers, Horace Broome Jr. and Bob Broome; sisters-in-law, Grace Broome, Margaret Broome and Dixie Broome and nephews, Horace "Bubba" Broome III and Al Broome and his beloved dog, Millie. Those left to cherish him memory include a daughter, Linda Crowe, Elizabethton; step-daughter, Jama Frazier and husband Jim, Elizabethton; a brother, Bill Broome, Elizabethton; special caregivers, Trish Mayo, Eugene Carrier and Shannon Carrier and former caregivers, Linda, Debbie, Brenda and Denise. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Carroll L. Broome will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 30, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Raymond W. Amos, Sr. officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Tyler Fleming. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service or at his residence at other times.

    Interment will follow the funeral service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Rick Broome, Robert Broome, Carl Gilbert, Mike Johnson, Brett Cole and Ben Cole. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

    Carroll married Betty Joyce Garrison about 1954.     ELIZABETHTON - Blonnie M. Estep, 92, Elizabethton passed away Tuesday May 7, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late George & Pearl Nave Estep. Blonnie was a retired Telephone Operator with United Telephone. She was a member of East River Park Christian Church. She loved listening to music. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Collins Estep and sisters: Moilee Garrison, Kate White, Maxie Shipley, Virginia Estep and June Greene.

    Survivors include her sisters: Billie Dean Estep Long, South Bend, Indiana and Mary Lou Hajducsek, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews. Her fury friend. Barney.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jason Payne, Minister and Mr. Justin Stauffer officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of the 6500 Wing, Johnson City Medical Center.

    Loyd W. McEwen, age 90, of North Church St, Mountain City, passed away the evening of Friday December 16, 2022 at his home. Loyd was born September 12, 1932 to the late Walsy G. McEwen and Willa G. Nave McEwen in Johnson County, TN. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Lee Johnson McEwen; sister, Jewel “Sis” Lewis; brothers, Mark McEwen and Hiram McEwen.

    Loyd was a graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State University. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and participated in numerous submarine dives, including one the world’s first operational nuclear-powered submarine the USS Nautilus.

    Loyd W. McEwen was hired with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the 1960s. During his tenure, he held the roles of a Consumer Safety Officer/Inspector in the States of Ohio and North Carolina and Supervisory Consumer Safety Officer/Direct First Line Supervisor in the State of Virginia. It was in 1976 when Loyd applied and was selected as FDA's first ever Direct First Line Supervisor to be stationed at the FDA Richmond, VA Resident Post. As such, he was instrumental in strengthening cooperative Federal State Relations, particularly with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

    Loyd was an outstanding supervisor that went above and beyond in caring for the mission of the agency and his employees. Loyd strongly believed in training and providing detailed guidance to the employees he hired and supervised. He made sure that the employees understood what having a balanced work life meant with family even though he would work you greater than 8 hours. Loyd had high expectations of his employees and would do anything for anyone that he worked with for career development.

    In 1993, Loyd was honored to receive the FDA Award of Merit, the agency's highest form of personal recognition. He earned this award for always going above and beyond as a Direct First Line Supervisor and cherished it until his retirement in Jan. 1999.

    When he was able he enjoyed growing a garden. Loyd spent a lot of time talking to people and especially his North Church St. Mountain City, TN friends and neighbors.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Tonda McEwen (Adam) and Susan Johnson (Clyde); grandchildren, Shelby Hayes, April Hayes, Jamie Hayes and Willa Campen; sisters-in-law; Amelia McEwen, Jean McEwen and Carolyn Adams; several nieces and nephews; cousins, Haggard, James, and Charles McEwen; special caregivers, Marie, Tammy, Jeraldine (of Richmond) , the late Dora Adamsand many others past and present.

    The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Daniel Jones officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from Reece Memorial Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Josh Morefield, Daniel McEwen, Sam McEwen, John McEwen, Terry McEwen, Eric Hill and Adam Campen. Honorary pallbearers are James, Charles, and Haggard McEwen.

    Mark McEwen, age 85, of Butler, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, September 6, 2019 after a lengthy illness. He was born May 8, 1934 in Johnson County, TN to the late Walsy McEwen and Willa Nave McEwen. In addition to his parents Mark was preceded in death by a brother, Hiram McEwen.

    Mark loved his family, especially his six children, the grandchildren and great grandchild and will be truly missed by all. He never met a stranger and enjoyed life. Farming was his life and he looked forward to each day.

    He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.

    Those left to cherish Marks's memory include his wife of 63 years, Amelia Stout McEwen, children; Ruth Canipe and husband Randy, Vickie Morefield and husband Rick, Emogene South, Terry McEwen, Sam McEwen and Michelle and John McEwen, grandchildren; Josh Morefield, Brittany Brown and husband Josh, Samantha Gilbert and husband Harrison, Joanna Canipe, Zachary McEwen, Nate Reece, Patrick South and Maddie South, one great grandchild, Ella Gilbert, one sister, Jewel Lewis, one brother, Lloyd McEwen, sister-in-law, Jean McEwen, brother-in-law, Porter Stout, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 6-7:00 p.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David Bentley and Pastor Dennis Peterson to officiate, music will be by John Brookshire and Megan McEwen. Graveside service and burial will be Monday September 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shoun McEwen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Adams, Melvin Huyard, Jeff Lewis, Chris Pleasant, Josh Morefield, Jimmy Lowe, Daniel McEwen and Patrick South.     NEWPORT – Roy Daniel Nave, 80, Newport, TN was ushered into the presence of the Savior he loved on November 18, 2015.

    He was born in Doeville, Tennessee to the late Nick & Anna Opal Stalcup Nave on December 25, 1934. The family moved from Tennessee to Oregon in 1947, and then to Mishawaka, Indiana in 1950, where he lived until May 2015. He was a 1953 Graduate of Mishawaka High School and a lifelong employee of Ball Band, until his retirement in 1990. He married Marilyn Patricia (Pat) Scott on October 30, 1954, faithfully serving her as godly husband and care giver for 61 years.

    Roy placed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1957, and lived as a man of God. He was loved and respected by people in Indiana, Tennessee and in Texas, where he & Pat wintered for 17 seasons.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Myretha Arnold.

    He is survived by his loving wife Pat and son: Daniel (Cheryl) Nave of Newport, TN; Granddaughters: Andrea (Dave)Johnson of Grand Rapids, MI; Sara (Jon)Fisher of Hopkinsville, KY; grandson: Matthew (Carrie) Nave of Howard City, MI: sister: Nikkie Mae (Chuck) Buck of Mishawaka, Indiana, a sister-in-law: Mary Lou (Kenny) Myers of Niles, MI; eight great grandchildren he loved intensely; his friend of 30 years, Larry (Candy) Desimone of Osceola; and Texas snowbird friend, Steve (Irene) Hauersperger of Cerro Gordo, IL.

    A time of greeting and condolence will be held at Northport Baptist Church, 488 Duncan Street, Newport,Tn. on Friday, November 20, 2015, from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service led by Pastor Kris Brady.

    ELIZABETHTON - Bubba Broome, age 65, Elizabethton went home to be with his Lord on May 22 2016. He was the son of Grace Lee Hopson Broome and the late Horace Arnold Broome Jr. Throughout his childhood years Bubba played many sports and was a member of the Elizabethton Boxing Team. He boxed in and won three Golden Glove Tournaments. In later years he was the boxing champion of his battalion while serving in the US Marines in Cuba. During his high school years Bubba was the starting quarterback for the Elizabethton High School Cyclones in his sophomore, Junior and senior years and was a member of the graduating class of 1969. Bubba received a football scholarship at Tennessee Tech University and made the team his first year; however after playing only one season he left to join the United States Marine Corp and was featured on the US Marine Corp Recruitment Poster in 1972. Bubba continued to enjoy sports throughout his life; he was an avid golfer and coached his daughter's softball and basketball teams in the 1990's. Bubba was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose Lodge. Bubba was a retired realtor and licensed real estate appraiser. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a daughter, Whitney Shea Broome in 2004. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved daughter, Mackenzie Danielle Broome, Johnson City TN, his mother, Grace Lee Broome, one brother Rick Lee Broome and wife Teresa and one sister, Tana Starr Johnson and husband Michael all of Elizabethton. Several uncles and cousins also survive. Bubba had many wonderful friends who loved, visited and cared for him during his declining health. He will be truly missed by those who will always remember his broad smile and love of life, family and friends.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Garry Edwards and Terry Pope officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday May 26, 2016 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Mr. Scott Reynolds. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing home for the love and care provided to him during his illness. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations to the American Cancer Society % Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643 or the Elizabethton Public Library. Active Pallbearers will be John Hardin, Tom Powers, Robert Broome, Ed Garland, Tom Corbett, Mickie Mathis David Smith and Kenneth Dugger. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
