JEFFERSONVILLE, IN - Phyllis Simerly Kitzmiller, 93, Jeffersonville, IN, formerly of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Hillcrest Village.
Phyllis was born in Johnson City to the late John and Ethel Woodby Simerly.
Phyllis was a 1946 graduate of Science Hill High School. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Phyllis was the wife of a minister. She and her husband lived in many locations and worked in many churches. She was guided by her faith in God and her love for Jesus Christ throughout her life. She had a great sense of humor and was very much a people person. Later in life she developed an avid interest in researching her family's genealogy.
In addition to her parents Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Kitzmiller, daughter, Susan Valdetero of Monroe, NC, siblings, Gordon Simerly, Donald Simerly, Ruth Smith and Ernest Simerly all of East Tennessee.
Survivors include a son, Paul Kitzmiller and wife Virginia of Jeffersonville, IN; grandchildren, Derek Kitzmiller and wife Tricia of Sellersburg, IN, Adam Kitzmiller and wife Rachel of McRae, AR, Ashley Herron and husband Jonathan of Wake Forest, NC, Dane Valdetero and wife Meagan of Charlotte, NC; son-in-law, Danny Valdetero of Wadesboro, NC; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Phyllis will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Todd Houston, officiating. The graveside committal will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be chosen from family.

JOHNSON CITY - Helen Ruth Simerly Smith, 82, Johnson City, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Agape Nursing & Rehab Center, Johnson City.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Johnson City and lived in Dallas, TX from 1952 until returning to Johnson City in 1999.
She was a daughter of the late John and Ethel Woodby Simerly.
Mrs. Smith retired in 1991 after twenty-one years of service with Sun Oil Co., Dallas, where she worked as a data processor in the accounting department.
She was a member of Locust Street Church of Christ, and enjoyed reading.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon, Donald and Ernest Simerly.
She is survived by her husband of more than sixty-six years, Billy Jack Smith; three children, Richard A. Smith and wife Sara, Castle Rock, CO, Jeffery L. Smith and wife Cindie, Peoria, AZ, and Patricia A. Smith Dickerson and husband Blair, Richmond, VA; one sister, Phyllis Kitzmiller, Monroe, NC; ten grandchildren, Tincy Crocker and husband Billy, Mabank, TX, Kristi Phillips, Eustace, TX, Jennifer Lugo, Dennison, TX, Nichollis Smith, Ft. Worth, TX, Robert Smith, Peoria, AZ, Jessica Smith, Vancouver, WA, Christian Smith, Peoria, AZ, Irish Smith, Peoria, AZ, Austin Dickerson, Richmond, VA, Brianna Dickerson, Richmond, VA; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; the Eddins family, Heath, TX; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 2:00 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Barry Blackburn and Richard Lewis, Ministers, officiating.
Entombment will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Larry R. Simerly, age 74, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Simerly was born in Johnson City and was the son of the late Roy Gordon & Nina Ruth Broyles Simerly Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Ethel Simerly and Loda & Bessie Broyles.

He was a member of Harvest Time Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was associated with several Gospel Quartets including the Gloryway Singers, whom he started with, and sung with them for 27 years. He liked to fish and hunt.

Mr. Simerly was a retired Bail Bondsman Agent.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Simerly, Johnson City; two sons, Brian Simerly (Kathy) Jonesborough and Christopher Simerly (Maureen), Kansas City, MO; daughter, Stacy Banner (John) Erwin; grandchildren, Marissa Payne, Mason Payne, Landon Banner, Riley Banner and Sarah Craddock; and great grandson, Adrik Heried; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 pm, Friday, July 8, 2022, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Hurd and Bro. Terry Austin officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted 12, noon, Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Monte Vista Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Banner, Mike Broyles, David Broyles Jr., Kenneth Broyles, Isaac Austin and William Joiner. Honorary pallbearers will be Monty Brown, Rowland Barker, Steve Carr, Austin Inancsi, Hunter Inancsi, Ricky Alexander, and David Inancsi.
