Billie Naomi Greene, 89, of Lake City, Fla., went to her Heavenly home on April 1, 2022, at Suwannee Valley Care Center. She was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on December 28, 1932, to the late Vernon Riddle Cordell and Hazel Opal Matherly.
Billie grew up in a small east Tennessee community and graduated from Elizabethton High School. She was a beautiful woman from the inside out who accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in her teens and lived a life that reflected her deep conviction to Him. She married the love of her life, Mack Greene, in June of 1952. They enjoyed an extraordinary life together traveling extensively with the National Park Service where Mack was employed many years. Perhaps her most incredible memory was having tea with Eleanor Roosevelt when they lived in Hyde Park, N.Y., but that’s hard to say as there were countless memories she shared throughout her sweet life.
Billie was a talented seamstress, and her handiwork was flawless. She was most passionate about her family; being a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children. She and Mack were married 35 years when he passed at the age of 62. Billie remained healthy and independent until her last days. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church in Ft. White and Fort White United Methodist Church. She thoroughly enjoyed attending church services to praise, worship, be filled and grow, along with spending precious time fellowshipping with her church family. Billie loved unconditionally and her legacy is that she was genuinely loved by everyone that knew her. Well done, faithful servant.
Billie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mack C. Greene Jr.; parents, Vernon “Pat” Cordell and Hazel MacLaren; her grandparents; and all her aunts and uncles.
Billie is survived by her loving children, Roger B. (Sherry) Greene Sr. of Virginia, and Nancy L. (Bob) Turner of Lake City, Fla.; brother, Dr. Jack (Jan) Cordell of North Carolina; grandchildren, Randi (Dusty) Hewit, Naomi (Kevin) Newman, Vickie Pridemore, R. Blake Greene Jr., Jennifer Oaks, Allen Oaks and Tara (Tyler) Dockery; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Billie’s Life will be held on Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Fort White United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Brecheen officiating. A graveside service will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn., where she will be interred with her husband, Mack.

Billie married Mack C. Greene on 7 Jun 1952 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Mack (son of Horelt McKinly Greene and Sallie E. Ray) was born on 8 Feb 1925; died on 16 Sep 1987 in Washington County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Mountain Home National Cemetery, , Washington County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
