    MOUNTAIN CITY — Mr. William Carroll Morefield, age 86, of 919 Medical Park Drive, and formerly of Hamby Lane, Mountain City, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2004, at Mountain City Care Center Born in Johnson County Nov. 3, 1917, he was a son of the late William Webster and Margaret Furches Morefield. Mr. Morefield was a farmer and had worked as a night watchman at Blue Ridge Shoe. William was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a former Sunday school teacher. Surviving are: one daughter, Anita Bentley and husband Rev. David Bentley; two sons, Howard Morefield and wife Linda, and Jerry Morefield and wife Paulette, all of Mountain City; one brother, Jasper Morefield of Mountain City; three sisters, Opal Dunn and Anna Mae Hackney, both of Mountain City, and Helen Morefield of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Donna Fritts, Danny and Brian Morefield, and Josh Bentley, all of Mountain City; and five great-grandchildren, Brooke Hutchinson, Alex Morefield, Samantha Morefield, Tyler Morefield and Makala Fritts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Miller Morefield, one brother, Charles Morefield, one sister, Naomi Wallace, and one grandson, Eric Morefield. Funeral services for Mr. William Carroll Morefield will be conducted Monday evening at 8 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. James Norman and Rev. David Bentley. The family will receive friends at the church from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the home of Rev. David and Anita Bentley, 221 Hamby Lane, Mountain City, or the home of Howard and Linda Morefield, 1127 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, in care of Bill Wilson, 3310 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, TN. Graveside services and burial for Mr. William Carroll Morefield will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Frank Johnson. Pallbearers will be Sam and Alfred Wilson, Richard Fritts, Larry Dunn, John and Mark Bentley, and Danny and Brian Morefield. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Jim Powell, Earl Shull and Dayton Shoemake. Austin & Barnes Funeral Home is serving the Morefield family.

    LAKELAND, Fla. — Opal Lee Dunn, age 87, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Mountain City, TN, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012.

    She was a daughter of the late William Webster Morefield and Margaret Catherine Furches Morefield. Ms. Dunn was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and her hobbies included sewing, quilting and needlework.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley J. Dunn; son Willie B. Dunn; grandson, Michael Dunn; sisters: Naomi Wallace, Anna Mae Hackney and Helen Morefield; and brothers: Carroll Morefield, Jasper Morefield and Charles Morefield.

    Ms. Dunn is survived by three daughters: Shelby Jean Bailey and husband, Jack, of Lakeland, FL, Amy Henson and husband, Eddie, of Mountain City, TN, and Lora Ann Slemp, of Johnson City, TN; one son: Larry Dunn and wife, Debbie, of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Angie Skinner, of Lakeland, FL, Matthew Norris and Bobby Joe Dunn, both of Mountain City, TN, Jamie Dunn and Cody Dunn, both of Richmond, VA, Junior Henson, of Hampton, TN, and Brandon Henson, of Laurel Bloomery, TN; great grandchildren: Kaylea Skinner, Mason Skinner, Elizabeth Norris, Tyler Norris, Paige Norris, Aden Dunn, Elijah Dunn, Elijah Henson and Rylee Henson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Funeral services for Opal Lee Dunn will be conducted Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. from Vaught's Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Johnson, Rev. David Bentley and Rev. Rick Thomason officiating. Music will be under the direction of Cheri Jo and Tony Potter.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.

    Graveside service and interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park Saturday, January 7, 2012, following the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be Randy Pardue, Matthew Norris, Bobby Joe Dunn, Don Hassenrick, Cliff Dunn, Roby Dunn and Howard Morefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Ray Morefield, Johnny Arnold, Jack Bailey, Eddie Henson and Keith Smith.

    Katherine Hassenrick, age 70, of Stout's Branch Road, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. She was born on July 28, 1952 to the late Bryam Hackney and Anna Mae Morefield. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Jane Woodward, Brother-in-law, Randy Pardue, niece, Amanda Woodward and best friend, Brenda Fletcher.

    Katherine was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School, enjoyed gardening and cooking. She was also known as I.E to her nephew, Peyton.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Don Hassenrick of the home; sister, Linda Pardue of Mountain City; nieces and nephew, Evelyn Huddleston, Cheri Potter, April Pardue and Peyton Woodward; special friends, Margaret Cress, Tiffany Espinoza, Hallie Williams and a host of other close friends.

    Funeral service for Katherine will be Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11 am in the Charles B. Hux Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Mike Pennley officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 am prior to the funeral. A graveside service will follow at Dyson Grove Cemetery.

    Pallbearers are Jeffery Lipford, Bradley Lipford, Stephen Lipford, James Reece, Harley Reece, Mike Wilson, Dawson Potter and Jonathan Lunceford.

    Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Woodward, Danny Huddleston, Tony Potter and Sam Cress.

She was born March 16, 1956 to the late Byrom W. Hackney and Anna Mae Morefield. Jane was a member of JCHS Class of 1975, former employee of Levi Strauss where she was the payroll Supervisor, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and she loved shopping and oil painting. She was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Amanda Woodward.

    Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters: Linda Pardue and Katherine Hassenrick, both of Mountain City, TN; Grandson Peyton Woodward, Mountain City, TN. Three nieces; Evelyn, April, and Cheri all of Mtn City. Great Nieces and Nephews: Jeffrey, Bradley, Stephen, Harley, James, Dawn, Dawson, and Eden. Great Great Niece Autumn. Uncle Gene Hackney.

    The family of Jane Woodward will receive friends on Wednesday March 30, 2022 from 1 until 2 pm at the Hux & Lipford Funeral Chapel, We will then proceed in procession to the Dyson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery for the graveside service, Rev Tony Potter will officiate and music will be provided by Diane Wagner,

    Pallbearers will be Danny Huddelston, Jeffrey Lipford, Bradley Lipford, James Reece, Harley Reece, and Dawson Potter.
    Honorary Pallbearers are; Stephen Lipford, Bob Heck, and Sam Cress.
