Charlie Newton Morefield, age 83, Mountain City, Rt. 3, died in Johnson City Memorial Hospital Wednesday, 8:30 P.M., after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Johnson County, a retired farmer and a member of the Dewey Christian Church. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Martha Hicks Morefield.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Relda G. Morefield, Mountain City; four sons Emmett Morefield, Knoxville; Oscar Morefield, Mountain City; Carson Morefield, Mountain City; two daughters, Mrs. Virgie Forrester, Mountain City and Mrs. Ruby Danner, Mountain City and one brother, Carl Morefield, Jenkins, Ky.
20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren[sic] also survive.
Funeral services were conducted from the Lewis Gentry Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, at 2:00 P.M, with the Rev. H.T. Mabry and Rev. William Ware officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery.
Pall-bearers[sic] were grandsons.
Flower-bearers[sic] were ladies of the church and neighbors.

Genetie Pearl Morefield, 55, died at her home in Neva, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., after a three-months illness. She was a life-time resident of Johnson county and a member of the Neva Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Morefield; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Guinn of Neva; three sons, Robert Morefield of McDowell, West Virginia, Elbert Morefield of Shouns, Tennessee, and Private First Class Oliver Morefield in Germany; four sisters, Mrs. Emma Morefield, Mrs. Tina Slamons, and Mrs. Maggie Gentry, all of Johnson City, and Mrs. Murry Jenkins of Doeville; four brothers, Isaac Morefield of Bristol, Charley Morefield of Doeville, and Jess Morefield and Karl Morefield both of Jenkins, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Neva Free Will Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Earl Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Stout Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

Wilburn Floyd Morefield, age 78, Mountain City, died at the Grayson Hotel Monday at 6 p.m.
Mr. Morefield was a native of Johnson County. He was a retired farmer. He was the son of the late James B. and Ellen McElyea Morefield. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lona, who died March 7, 1960. He was a member of the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Junior, Portsmouth, Va., and Burl, Deep Gap, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Kate Walker, Neva, Mrs. Verna Mae Greer, Troutville, Va., Mrs. Crete Proffitt, Salem, Va.; two brothers, W.W. Morefield, Neva, J.G. Morefield, Lewiston, Idaho; four sisters, Mrs. Zola Moody, Mountain City, Mrs. Carie Mae Proffitt, Mrs. Ivaree Arnold and Mrs. Rena Hambo, all of Neva; and 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. from the Locust Gap Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. H.C. Price and Rev. D.C. Byrd officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors and flower bearers will be ladies of the church and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Morefield cemetery.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Dallas Jasper Morefield, age 84, of 740 Sprucy Lane, Mountain City, TN, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie N. and Relda Gentry Morefield. He was a native of Johnson County, where he served in the US Army during World War II and Korea. He was a carpenter and a retired farmer for many years.

Dallas enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing and playing bingo. He was a member of Dewey Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Morefield; and two sisters, Ruby Danner and Virgie Forrester; three brothers, Oscar, Carson and Emmett Morefield; and sister-in-law, Wanda Morefield.

Survivors include: one daughter; Betty Morefield, two sons; Lester Morefield and Jack Morefield, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Virginia Morefield, of Mountain City, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2010, in the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Manuel officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Military honors will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Wilson Cemetery.

Oliver Morefield, son of Mr. Joe Morefield, Neva, was killed in an automobile wreck, which occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 24, three miles out of Mountain City near Shouns.

OLIVER MOREFIELD, 25, World War II veteran of Neva, who died as a result of a traffic accident near here on Wednesday night, will be buried at 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Church at Neva. Rev. Earl Campbell of Butler and Rev. Joe Ponder of Mountain City will officiate. Burial will be in the Stout Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded him at the grave.
Survivors include his father, Joe Morefield, Neva; sisters, Mrs. Ethel Guinn, Neva; two brothers, Robert of McDowell, W. Va. and Elbert of Shouns. His mother was the late Pearl Morefield.
Morefield served in the Pacific theatre during the war. He was discharged in 1945, after which he reenlisted and served 18 months in the army.

Neva Man Killed In Auto-Truck Collision
MOUNTAIN CITY, Thurs. March 25 – Oliver Moorefield of Neva, Tenn. was killed here last night involving a truck and a passenger car, and Coolidge Arnold, also of Neva is in serious condition in Mountain Home Hospital at Johnson City.
A 1941 (Plymouth) sedan, driven by Arnold and carrying three other passengers, was in collision with a coal truck from St. Paul, Va., driven by Henry Lowe, who was uninjured. The accident occurred about 8 p.m. three miles from Mountain City on the North Carolina highway, according to the sheriff of Johnson County.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Mr. William Carroll Morefield, age 86, of 919 Medical Park Drive, and formerly of Hamby Lane, Mountain City, died Sunday morning, August 22, 2004, at Mountain City Care Center Born in Johnson County Nov. 3, 1917, he was a son of the late William Webster and Margaret Furches Morefield. Mr. Morefield was a farmer and had worked as a night watchman at Blue Ridge Shoe. William was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a former Sunday school teacher. Surviving are: one daughter, Anita Bentley and husband Rev. David Bentley; two sons, Howard Morefield and wife Linda, and Jerry Morefield and wife Paulette, all of Mountain City; one brother, Jasper Morefield of Mountain City; three sisters, Opal Dunn and Anna Mae Hackney, both of Mountain City, and Helen Morefield of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Donna Fritts, Danny and Brian Morefield, and Josh Bentley, all of Mountain City; and five great-grandchildren, Brooke Hutchinson, Alex Morefield, Samantha Morefield, Tyler Morefield and Makala Fritts. She was a daughter of the late William Webster Morefield and Margaret Catherine Furches Morefield. Ms. Dunn was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and her hobbies included sewing, quilting and needlework.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley J. Dunn; son Willie B. Dunn; grandson, Michael Dunn; sisters: Naomi Wallace, Anna Mae Hackney and Helen Morefield; and brothers: Carroll Morefield, Jasper Morefield and Charles Morefield.

Ms. Dunn is survived by three daughters: Shelby Jean Bailey and husband, Jack, of Lakeland, FL, Amy Henson and husband, Eddie, of Mountain City, TN, and Lora Ann Slemp, of Johnson City, TN; one son: Larry Dunn and wife, Debbie, of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: Angie Skinner, of Lakeland, FL, Matthew Norris and Bobby Joe Dunn, both of Mountain City, TN, Jamie Dunn and Cody Dunn, both of Richmond, VA, Junior Henson, of Hampton, TN, and Brandon Henson, of Laurel Bloomery, TN; great grandchildren: Kaylea Skinner, Mason Skinner, Elizabeth Norris, Tyler Norris, Paige Norris, Aden Dunn, Elijah Dunn, Elijah Henson and Rylee Henson. Miss Jennie Lee Moody, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Pine Ridge Care Center of Elizabethton, Tennessee. She was a Johnson County native, born on March 9, 1924 to the late Edward and Zola Morefield Moody. In addition to her parents, Jen was preceded in death by brothers Hugh and Dean Moody and sisters, Blanche Eggers, Ruth Taylor and Eula Taylor.

Jen was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church but most recently attend Victory Chapel Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.

Those left to cherish her memories include two sisters: Mary Ellen Greer of Elizabethton, Tennessee and Lola Mae Pardue of Gray, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jennie Lee Moody will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Stout officiating. The family will receive friends from1:30 – 2:30 p.m. prior to the funeral. Music will be under the direction of John Brookshire and Sue Baird.

Graveside service and interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Eggers, Ronnie Greer, Garry Shelton, Larry Shelton, Will Taylor, Bill Moody, Jim Moody, Danny Moody, Levi Shelton and Dwayne Duffield.

She was born October 7, 1929, in Leona Mines, VA to the late Edward Boone Moody and Zola Morefield Moody. In addition to her parents, Lola Mae was preceded in death by her husband Fred Pardue; son, Garry Shelton; sisters, Blanche Eggers, Ruth Taylor, Eula Taylor, Jennie Lee Moody, and brothers, Hugh and Dean Moody.

Lola Mae cooked in various restaurants through the years and at Boone Trail Dairy Bar for the Ashley’s until it closed. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Larry Shelton; grandchildren, Levi Shelton, Katti Nelson, Dwayne Duffield, Jennifer Winters; several great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Greer of Elizabethton, TN, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Richard Stout officiating.
