    Mrs. Hampton was a Yancey County North Carolina native and had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She was a daughter of Dock and Usley Hensley Tipton.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Hampton in 1957, one son, five daughters, three brothers and one sister.

    Survivors include four sons, Ed of Baltimore and Melvin , Wallace Williams and Junior Wigand, all of Erwin.

    Six daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Parsley and Mrs. Hollan Wilfong, both of Baltimre, Mrs. Shirley Bennett, Mrs. Anna Lee Banner and Mrs. Wanda Georgia, all of Erwin and Mrs. Jean Gray; one brother, Wiley Tipton and three sisters, Mrs. Edna Robbins and Mrs. Geneva McNabb, both of Erwin and Mrs. Lockie Banner of Baltimore.

    ERWIN — Wiley Tipton, 94, formerly of 1330 Martin Creek road, Erwin died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Erwin Health Care.

    He was a native of Lost Cove, N.C. and a son of the late Dock and Usley Hensley Tipton. He served as a Sergeant with the U.S. Army in Germany, Hawaii and Ireland during W.W. II. He retired form P.C. Cooper Construction as a heavy equipment operator. During his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing baseball.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte Banner Tipton in 1999; by one step-son, Harold William "Dooley" Ingram in 1985; by three brothers, Bill, Herman and Albert Tipton; by two sisters, Ethel Hampton and Dora Honeycutt.

    He leaves behind: One step-daughter: Winsie Robinson and husband Eugene, Erwin. Jacob Ingram, Erwin. Two sisters: Geneva McNabb, Erwin, Edna Robbins, Erwin. Three step-grandchildren: Wanda Smith and husband, Lee, Erwin, William Harold Ingram, Jr, and wife Sherry, Erwin, Myron Robinson, Boca Roton, FL. Four step-great-grandchildren: Les Smith and wife Laraine, Johnson City, Derek Smith, Tampa, FL. Kyle Robinson, Boca Raton, FL.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2007, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Minister Jack Davis will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Jeff and Nola Peterson. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

    Serving as pallbearers will be William "Buzz" Ingram, Jr, Lee Smith, Lesley Smith, Bob Gilbert, Rick Hyder and Arnold Banner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be men of Lily Dale Church of Christ.

    Edna Tipton Robbins, age 101, 508 West Park Street, Erwin passed away at her residence on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. She was born on May 12, 1915 in Lost Cove, NC but lived most of her life in Erwin. Edna was the last surviving child of the late Dock and Uslie Hensley Tipton. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Carl Robbins and twelve brothers and sisters.

    She was a National Shuffle Board Champion while living in St. Petersburg, FL and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1967. Edna's photograph appeared on the cover of Life Magazine. In her later years, she enjoyed watching baseball, tennis and golf. Edna loved flowers of all kinds and animals. Her favorite activities were playing bingo, lottery, tending her flowers and having a good meal. Edna always lived life on her own terms and will be remembered and missed by many relatives and friends. May she find peace and rest with God's blessing.

    She leaves behind to cherish her memories many special nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 A. M. until the hour of service on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Kyle Tipton will officiate at the 11:00 A. M. funeral. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

    Patsy Sue Tipton Bennett, age 72, 1375 Martins Creek Road, Erwin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 26, 2018. She passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Patsy was a lifelong resident of Erwin and the only daughter of the late Herman and Belle Phillips Tipton.

    She retired from her position as Assessor of Property after twenty-eight years of dedicated service to the citizens of Unicoi County. Patsy was an active, devoted and loving member of Faith Baptist Church for forty years. She taught the 5 to 8 year old Sunday School Class for thirty years. Patsy was a virtuous woman who loved the Lord with all her heart. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

    She was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and always enjoyed volunteering her time with various organizations. Patsy loved people and she never met a stranger! She loved flowers, growing flowers and making a dying plant come to life again......she was a natural green thumb. Patsy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

    The family would like to send a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice staff for all the professional and loving care they gave to Patsy and her family.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Ann Bennett on February 24, 2006.

    She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her loving and dedicated husband of fifty-seven years, Ronnie Bennett; one son, John Bennett (Monica), Knoxville; four daughters: Ronda Williams (David), Regina Tipton (John), Becky Edwards (Travis) and Phyllis Harris (Sam), all of Erwin; five brothers: Wayne Tipton, Erwin, Franklin Tipton (Jeanette), Erwin, Ronnie Tipton (Lois), Johnson City, Leon Tipton (Joan) and Kyle Tipton (Josie), all of Erwin; fifteen grandchildren: Deanna Hardin (Michael), Joshua Williams, Philip Tipton (Brittney), Nathanael Tipton, Joseph Tittle (Rosie), Daniel Edwards, Kendra Miller (Christian), Hannah Harris, Isaac Harris, Terry Franklin, Jessica Lane, Jeremy Lane, Rachel Morrison (Jackie), Hunter and Peyton Bennett; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The family will receive friends on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church and other times at the residence. Reverend Harold Lewis and Reverend David Williams will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Shirley Lane, Rachael Hendrix, Becky Hardin and Mackenzie Hyder. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Committal service will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
