JOHNSON CITY - Mable Orlene Hagy Martin, age 92 of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Dominion Senior Living in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth James Martin born to them September 6, 1928 in Johnson City, Tennessee. Mable was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church and was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She united in marriage to Charles Anthony Martin, who preceded her in death in 2017.

Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one sister, Edith Schlotzsky.

Mable is survived by her loving children, Nancy Jane Hodges (Robert L. Hodges, III) and Terry A. Martin (Kathy); a sister, Ruby Musick; two brothers, Billy Hagy and James Z. Hagy (Lorena); her loving grandchildren, Robert L. Hodges IV (Alex), Christopher Martin, Kristan Martin and Molly Sheth (Shalin); one great-grandchild, Fin as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends left behind to cherish her memory.

A graveside service to honor Mable’s life will be conducted on Friday, April 30, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.

GRAY - James Z. Hagy, 84, of the Gray Community, exchanged this earthly home for his eternal heavenly home on August 15, 2021, at HVMC in Kingsport, TN after an extended illness.

Jim to his friends, Jimmy to his family, was the youngest of 5 children, born to the late Walter Keller Hagy and Elizabeth James Hagy. As a young boy, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, helped his brother Billy and his friends deliver newspapers in their community. During the winter months, he helped his dad on Saturdays, stoke the coal furnaces to warm the church for Sunday services at their home church at Roan Hill Baptist, in Johnson City. Here, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior.

He served his country in the United States Army, and completed his tour of duty in the Military Police office in Richmond, Virginia.

In 1978, he was certified and licensed as an Architectural Hardware Consultant from the Door and Hardware Institute. He was elected to the board of directors of the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee from 1994-1996. In October of 2002, he was awarded life membership in the Door and Hardware Institute.

He was the former owner of The Good Company in Bristol, which is now located in Gray.

He was a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church and was involved in several areas of ministry over the years. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee College, as it was known then. He was a true example of Proverbs 17:17 “a friend loves at all times”. He was a gentle man, a very generous man, loving, and devoted to any, and all, he knew. Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Preceding him in death was 2 sisters, Mable Martin of Johnson City, and Edith Schlotthauer of California.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorena Hagy; one sister, Ruby Musick of Johnson City; one brother, Billy Hagy of Upland, California; one special brother-in-law, Fred Feathers of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

Snyder’s Memorial Gardens in Gray is serving the Hagy family. Visitation is Wednesday, the 18th from 5-7 pm, at Boone Trail Baptist Church, 1985 Carroll Creek Road, Johnson City, TN. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Dwight Jenkins officiating. Interment will be Thursday, 11:00 am, at East Tennessee Cemetery located in Blountville near the Tri-Cities Airport.

Pallbearers will be Robbie, Bryan, Brent, Jeff, Clinton, and David Feathers.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to his favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis TN; The Vine Ministry in Haiti, c/o The Vine Ministry, P.O. Box 967, Goshen, IN 46527; or his local church, Boone Trail Baptist Church.

Donald J. Treadway, 69, 312 East I Street, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mozella Hagy Treadway. Mr. Treadway was a 1959 graduate of Hampton High School and attended East Tennessee State University and Milligan College. Don was a retired Photographer with Coleman's Studio and had served as a Commissioner in the 8th District for 29 years. He was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church and a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 and the Elizabethton Elks Lodge #1847. Don was an avid Lady Vols fan and golfer.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Markland Treadway; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Brandy Treadway, Forsyth, Ga..; three grandchildren, Erica Love, Hannah Miller and Bailey Miller; and a sister, Janice Treadway Ferguson and husband Henry, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The graveside service for Mr. Treadway will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, December 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. James Royston officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Joel Crisp. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, will be Shane Gouge, Doug Buckles, Cary White, David Sellers, Joe Sluder, Brian Vaughn, Larry Woods and Norman Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Swift, Norman Chesser, Bill Horton, Billy Ray Harrell, Kent Hyder, Mack Henry, members of the 1959 Graduating Class of Hampton High School and present and former Commissioners of Carter County. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the ICU of Johnson City Medical Center, employees of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, the Princeton Transitional Service and Dr. Kenny Hopland. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. KELLER, Texas — Janice K. Ferguson, 72, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at her home in Keller, Texas.
A native of Elizabethton, Janice lived the majority of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mozella Treadway of Valley Forge. Before moving to Texas three years ago, Janice attended First Christian Church in Johnson City and worked as a dental hygienist in Kingsport for over 50 years, working for Drs. Frank Buckles, Robert Hodge, and John Machen. She loved her patients and became close friends with many of them. Janice was a loving wife, mother, and recent grandmother who adored her three-year-old granddaughter, Alyssa. Janice will now be reunited with her late husband, Henry Ferguson, who passed away last year.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Rose Ferguson of Fort Worth, Texas, and her granddaughter, Alyssa Rose Ferguson.
Visitation will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tenn., with a graveside service to follow at Monte Vista Memorial Gardens in Johnson City at 3 p.m.

JOHNSON CITY - Nancy Howren, 66, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, November 25, 2022, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton.

Nancy lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Lucille Hagy.

Nancy graduated from Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for Johnson City Schools at Northside, King Springs and Cherokee Elementary Schools. Nancy was a dedicated teacher and enjoyed many years at Cherokee Elementary teaching Kindergarten students. She will be remembered for her bright smile, vibrant personality, and caring nature with family, friends, and students.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her brother Ron Hagy.

Left to cherish Nancy’s memory include her son, Brandon Hopson of Chicago, Ill; grandchildren, Lilly Hopson, Owen Hopson, and Ayden Hopson; sisters, Teresa Bailey of Lone Star, TX, Jamie Harris and husband Randy of Unicoi, TN; cousin, Randi Perry; sister-in-law, Joan Hagy; special friend, Evelyn Tripodi; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the kind staff at American House of Johnson City assisted living facility, who cared for Nancy for the past year.

The family of Nancy Howren will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park.
