James W. "Jim" Garland, age 73, of Rome, Georgia, passed Monday, December 12, 2016 at his residence.

Jim retired from First Tennessee Bank, after 35 years of service as a vice president. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Sandra Baines Garland, of the home; his daughter, Sarah Garland, of Vienna, VA; three sons, Charles Glen "Chuck" Garland, of Atlanta, GA, William "Bill" Garland and wife Brintha Vilvarajah, of Memphis, TN, and Nath Garland and wife Melissa, of Brighton, CO; three grandchildren; a sister, and two nephews.

A service to honor the life of James W. "Jim" Garland will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, TN. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday. The graveside service will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN.

JOHNSON CITY - Margaret G. Timbs, age 75, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at her home, surrounded by those that loved her.

Margaret was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late William Claude Garland and Mattie Lee Ellis Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy Eugene Timbs; and a brother, James William Garland.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, but had a stubborn and strong willed side. She was employed as an educator at Guildford North Carolina School for four years and she also worked for the Johnson City School System for fifteen years as a substitute teacher. Margaret was of the Baptist faith and was very involved in the Garland Family Research Association. She enjoyed genealogical work, coin collecting, history, cross stitching, fishing and camping.

Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include her loving and devoted husband of fifty years, Loyd “Rex” Timbs, of the home; a son, Alan Rex Timbs and wife Stephanie, of Gray, TN; three grandchildren, Allison, Andrew and Aiden Timbs; and a daughter-in-law, Kim Timbs. Many other additional family and dear friends also survive.

It was Margaret’s wish to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
