    Germaine Braswell Greer, 91, Lawrenceville, Ga., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at Cambridge Health Center in Snellville, Ga.
    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Williams Braswell.
    Germaine was a 1948 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She loved to quilt, cook and work in her garden. She was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Almond Greer, who passed away August 4, 2014, and by three brothers and three sisters.
    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Andree Greer, Lawrenceville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Michael (Anna) Greer and Alysia (Blain) Jackson; and her great-grandchildren, Madison and Alexander and Cooper and Caroline; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 4, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with a VA Chaplain officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Germaine married Joseph Almond Greer about 1948.     Frances "Diane" Smalling, 62, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton, Tenn.
    Diane was a Carter County native and had lived her whole life on Smalling Road with her family. Diane had a special way of touching the lives of all who knew her. She never met a stranger and she never forgot a face. She loved her family, friends and especially her church family at Watauga Point United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. She was a member of the church choir, the Brenda Bishop Sunday School Class and was even voted Member of the Year in 1988. She proudly worked for 25 years at the Tennessee Vocational Workshop in Elizabethton. Diane loved bowling, painting, writing letters to friends and family, Westerns, and UT football and basketball. She also loved to go anywhere anyone would take her.
    Ms. Smalling was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Braswell Smalling, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Jerry Dodson.
    Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Betty McInturff and husband Troy; her brother, Tom Smalling and wife Teresa; her nieces and nephews, April Kushmann, Andrea Bradford, Nathan McInturff, Erica Everley, Scott Smalling and Duane Smalling; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
    The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday, December 15, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Leann K F Crandell and Rev. Mike Berry. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 16, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to gather at the graveside by 2:50 p.m. Active pallbearers are Jerry Weaver, Ted Weaver, Jackson Bradford, Sullivan McInturff, Nathan McInturff, Ted Bradford and Tilo Kushmann.

    ELIZABETHTON - Jerry Carl Weaver, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, July 18,2021 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James G. & Ruby Braswell Weaver. Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He served as a Deputy in the Carter County Sheriff Department from 1970 to 1978. He served as Carter County Sessions Judge from 1978 until 1990. He was co-owner of Weavers Self Service Hardware. He was a Past Master and lifetime member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238. In earlier years he was involved in the Shriners Organization. Jerry was a member and former choir director of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church.

    Survivors include his brother & sister-in-law: Ted & Janet Weaver. His companion: Kathy Rhea and her daughter Stephanie Rhea. Two Nephews: Ryan (Abbey) Weaver and Trever (Rebekah) Weaver. Three Great Nieces: Madison (Seth) Gagne, Katlyn (Travis) Boggs and Ruby Claire Weaver. His Aunt: Pauline Buckles. Several cousins.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Music will be provided by Sue Bowers. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday will be: Ryan Weaver, Trever Weaver, Jamie Buckles, Randall Buckles, Doug Graham, Wayman Carrier, Dale Cordell and Dean Robinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Brandon Rhea, Terry Buckles, Mitchell Buchanan, Tony Oliva and Jim Rantz. A Masonic Service will be conducted following the funeral service by Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238. Military Honors will be provided by V.F.W. Post 2108.

    UNICOI - Helen “Paulette” Watts, 72, of Unicoi crossed over Jordan to sing with the angels Saturday April 1st, 2023, after passing away unexpectedly at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Deeston and Bernice Braswell. She retired from the Unicoi County School system after 20 plus years of service. Paulette was a lifelong, devout Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith. Her favorite activities included growing dazzling flowers of all kinds, shopping until her daughter couldn’t shop anymore at her favorite outlets in Boone, Pigeon Forge and Asheville, preparing amazing foods for her family to enjoy especially meatloaf, roast, deviled eggs, and her fresh garden corn, canning foods from the garden with her husband, singing religious and Christmas songs with her granddaughter especially in the car, going out to eat and taking road trips with her daughter and son in law because she never knew where she would end up, and most of all spending time with her family. In the 90’s Paulette was part of the Heavenly Echoes singing group made up of some of her best friends, Charlotte Clark and Carol McKinney. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandma.

    Helen Paulette Watts leaves behind to cherish her memory; her husband, Daniel Steve Watts of Unicoi, her daughter, Stephanie Paulins and husband, Jeremy of Unicoi; granddaughter, Caitlin Paulins of Unicoi, great aunt Phyllis Kirkpatrick of Elizabethton; many cousins, brother and sister in-laws, nephews, nieces, a special friend since elementary school, Darlene Price, and her beloved cat Molly. The family will greatly miss her, and a void will be there forever. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

    Funeral services for Paulette will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Valley Funeral Home, 1045 N. Main Avenue with Rev, Dexter Brummitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 6, 2023 in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin. Pallbearers will include family and friends.
