    James Dwight Potter, 83, Gray, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2019, surrounded by his family.

    Mr. Potter was born in 1936, in Johnson County, TN. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grand father. He was a faithful member of Greenvale Baptist church for many years and he was a humble child of God. Mr. Potter proudly served in the US Army from 1955 until 1961 and was a Journeyman electrician with local 934 of Blountville.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Gale; sister, Evelyn; and three great-grandchildren, Jaden and Leland Lothridge, and Ayden Houser.

    Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Lee; three children, Penny Boyd and her husband Bruce, Pamela Brandon and her husband Harvey, and Mitchell Potter; seven grandchildren, Audrey Carpenter and husband Andrew, Todd Lothridge and wife Tiffany, Lindsey Boyd, Adam Lothridge, Tori Potter, Dwight "Alexander" Potter, and Henry Potter; thirteen great-grandchildren, Daniel, Noelle, Gabby, and Ruby Carpenter, Destiny, Cadence, Jordan, Riley, Rheagan, Jaylei, Addison, Hayden Lothridge, and Wyatt DeHart; and two sisters Carolyn Moody and Rose Morefield.

    The family will receive friends Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Snyder's Memorial Gardens. A service will follow with pastors Travis Shaffer and Leonard Fletcher officiating. A funeral service will be held at Snyder's Memorial Gardens on Monday, December 9, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with full military honors by the Carter County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will include: Bruce Boyd, Harvey Brandon, Todd Lothridge, Adam Lothridge, Andrew Carpenter, and Henry Potter. Honorary pallbearers include Leo Lothridge, Jay Hobbs, and Dwight "Alexander" Potter, and the men of Greenvale Baptist church.
