    Mrs. Katie Lyons, 79, died at her home, Route 2, Roan Mountain, Wednesday at 3:15 p. m. after a week's illiness. She was a life long resident of Carter County and a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. She is survived by four sons J.B. Lyons, Mack Lyons, and Dewey Lyons, all of Roan Mountain, and J.Q. Lyons of Elizabethton, and one daughter Mrs. Pearl Cornett of Roan Mountain; one sister Caroline wilson, thirty-five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be condueted Friday afternoon at 2:oo o'clock from the Little Mountain Chapel Church with the Rev. Cleve Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in the Lacey Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grant, Carl, and Dave Whitehead, Dewey Hill, and Paul Johnson, Burl Ingram and Charles Garland. The Body was removed to the home this morning from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.
    She was the wife of George Washington Lyons and the mother of Rosa Nell Lyons, she was a Mid-Wife.

    Dewey Lyons, 78, Rt. 2 Roan Mountain, died at his residence Monday following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George and Katie Lyons. He was a member of Crabtree Freewill Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Carter County Road Department. Survivors in clude his wife Mrs. Gerrie Arnett Lyons of the home; five daugthers, Mrs. Beatrice Coleman, Mrs. Elsie Oliver and Mrs. Mae Bowers all of Hampton, Mrs. Mary Baker and Mrs. Patsy Markland, both of Roan Mountain; six sons Jack and Robert Lyons of the home, Howard Lyons, Newland N.C., John, James and Tommy Lyons all of Roan Mountain; two brothers Mack Lyons of Roan Mountain, and Jacob Q. Lyons, of Hillview Nursing Home: one sister Mrs. Pearl Cornett, Hickory, N.C. Twenty-eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

    Notes:

    Earl C. Lyons, 85, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., took his last breath on Earth and his first in Heaven on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was the son of the late Mack and Tessie Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Elbert, Byrl and Herman Lyons, and one sister, Lela Heaton.
    Earl was a loving son and brother. He was also an outdoor enthusiast and a member of Victory Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, Tenn. Earl found joy in all those he came in contact with and he truly loved life. He had a special passion for hunting herbs and collecting cans.
    Many are left behind to cherish his memory. Survivors include his two sisters, Mamie "Pearl" Owens of Morganton, N.C., and Linda Gouge of Erwin, Tenn. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Earl loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own and often took them with him whenever he would go places. In return they loved him dearly.
    A service to honor the life of Earl will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 6, at Victory Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, Tenn., with Minister Jerry Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Lacey Cemetery, Roan Mountain, Tenn.

    John Adkins Lyons, 81, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a son of the late Dewey Lyons and Gertie Arnett Lyons and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Lyons, Jimmy Lyons and Jack Lyons; a sister, Carlene Lyons; and four infant siblings, Esther Lyons, Lola Lyons, Katie Lyons and George Lyons. Mr. Lyons was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Helen Markland Lyons, of the home; one daughter, Christine Baker and husband, Richard, Jonesborough; three sons, Keith Lyons and wife, Kimberly, Elizabethton, Gary Lyons and wife, Darlene, Roan Mountain, and John Allen Lyons, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Tommy Lyons and Robert Lyons, both of Roan Mountain; five sisters, Beatrice Morrell and Elsie Burrow, both of Hampton, Mary Baker, Mae Bowers and Patsy Markland, all of Roan Mountain; and seven grandchildren, Sarah Ellis, Jonathan Baker, Janet Ledford, Adam Lyons, Samuel Lyons, Gary Lyons Jr. and Ginger Cooper. Seven great-grandchildren also survive. The graveside service for John Adkins Lyons will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Moreland Cemetery in Roan Mountain with Mr. Terry Dugger, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Makayla Lambert. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Gary Lyons Jr., Adam Lyons, Shannon Mills, Jamie Lyons and Jonathan Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be the family. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the graveside service, or at the residence at anytime.

    Mary Lillie Lyons Baker, 78, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Mary was born in Carter County to the late Thomas Dewey Lyons Sr. and Gertrude Arnett Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Baker; her daughter, Lillie Stout; and a son-in-law, Richard Lindecamp.
    Mary was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed coloring, playing cards, sewing, going to yard sales and collecting antiques. Mary loved to spend time with her family — especially her grandchildren.
    Those left to cherish Mary’s many wonderful memories include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Freddy Baker and partner Cynthia of Hampton and George Wayne Baker and wife Karen of Hudson, Fla.; seven daughters and four sons-in-law, Star Baker Lopez and husband Joshua of Marion, N.C., Rosie Lindecamp Hargreaves and husband Jay of Hudson, Fla., Barbara Baker of Cranberry, N.C., Diana Buckles and husband Allen of Elizabethton, Patricia Bennett and husband Troy of Elizabethton, Linda Cole of Roan Mountain and Donna Chambers and husband Jr. of Roan Mountain; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Lyons of Hampton and Thomas Dewey Lyons Jr. of Roan Mountain; and three sisters, Patsy Markland of Roan Mountain, Mae Bowers of Roan Mountain and Elsie Lyons of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    A service to celebrate the life of Mary Lillie Lyons Baker will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Gary Whitehead and son-in-law, Mr. Robert Stout, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 6 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 19, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Townsend, Christian Chambers, Troy Bennett, Joshua Lopez, June Chambers Jr., Adam Cole, Matt Cole and Doug Markland. Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Gobble.
