Notes: Mrs. Katie Lyons, 79, died at her home, Route 2, Roan Mountain, Wednesday at 3:15 p. m. after a week's illiness. She was a life long resident of Carter County and a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. She is survived by four sons J.B. Lyons, Mack Lyons, and Dewey Lyons, all of Roan Mountain, and J.Q. Lyons of Elizabethton, and one daughter Mrs. Pearl Cornett of Roan Mountain; one sister Caroline wilson, thirty-five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be condueted Friday afternoon at 2:oo o'clock from the Little Mountain Chapel Church with the Rev. Cleve Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in the Lacey Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grant, Carl, and Dave Whitehead, Dewey Hill, and Paul Johnson, Burl Ingram and Charles Garland. 6. | Thomas Dewey Lyons ![]() Notes: Dewey Lyons, 78, Rt. 2 Roan Mountain, died at his residence Monday following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George and Katie Lyons. He was a member of Crabtree Freewill Baptist Church and a retired employee of the Carter County Road Department. Survivors in clude his wife Mrs. Gerrie Arnett Lyons of the home; five daugthers, Mrs. Beatrice Coleman, Mrs. Elsie Oliver and Mrs. Mae Bowers all of Hampton, Mrs. Mary Baker and Mrs. Patsy Markland, both of Roan Mountain; six sons Jack and Robert Lyons of the home, Howard Lyons, Newland N.C., John, James and Tommy Lyons all of Roan Mountain; two brothers Mack Lyons of Roan Mountain, and Jacob Q. Lyons, of Hillview Nursing Home: one sister Mrs. Pearl Cornett, Hickory, N.C. Twenty-eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Thomas married Gertrude Arizona Arnette on 19 May 1928 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Gertrude (daughter of John Adkins Arnett and Orpha Townsend) was born on 2 Mar 1908 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 10 Sep 1989 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Lacey Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. 10. | Earl C. Lyons ![]() Notes: Earl C. Lyons, 85, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., took his last breath on Earth and his first in Heaven on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn. He was the son of the late Mack and Tessie Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Elbert, Byrl and Herman Lyons, and one sister, Lela Heaton. |

12. | John Adkins Lyons ![]() Notes: John Adkins Lyons, 81, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a son of the late Dewey Lyons and Gertie Arnett Lyons and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Lyons, Jimmy Lyons and Jack Lyons; a sister, Carlene Lyons; and four infant siblings, Esther Lyons, Lola Lyons, Katie Lyons and George Lyons. Mr. Lyons was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Helen Markland Lyons, of the home; one daughter, Christine Baker and husband, Richard, Jonesborough; three sons, Keith Lyons and wife, Kimberly, Elizabethton, Gary Lyons and wife, Darlene, Roan Mountain, and John Allen Lyons, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Tommy Lyons and Robert Lyons, both of Roan Mountain; five sisters, Beatrice Morrell and Elsie Burrow, both of Hampton, Mary Baker, Mae Bowers and Patsy Markland, all of Roan Mountain; and seven grandchildren, Sarah Ellis, Jonathan Baker, Janet Ledford, Adam Lyons, Samuel Lyons, Gary Lyons Jr. and Ginger Cooper. Seven great-grandchildren also survive. The graveside service for John Adkins Lyons will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Moreland Cemetery in Roan Mountain with Mr. Terry Dugger, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Makayla Lambert. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Gary Lyons Jr., Adam Lyons, Shannon Mills, Jamie Lyons and Jonathan Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be the family. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the graveside service, or at the residence at anytime. |
