ELIZABETHTON - Velva Shoun Nave, age 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from the Hermitage Health Care Center. Velva was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Dudley Shoun and Emma Belle Tribble Shoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell S. Nave; a son, Darrell Nave, Jr.; six brothers, Andy Shoun, Earl Tribble, Jess Shoun, Carl Shoun, Leroy Shoun, and Bill Shoun; and two sisters, Hazel Elliott and Vada Shoun.

Velva was a devoted wife, loving mother and a homemaker. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and a member of the White Shrines.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Janice Showalter, of Johnson City, Janie Breen and husband Thomas, of Johnson City, and Elizabeth Spielberger and husband John, of SC; five grandchildren, Larry G. Maggio, Lynette Hegeman Bunce, Sunshine Nave, Charity Nave and Aaron Weese. Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Velva Shoun Nave will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Estel Williams, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Larry Glenn White, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 in the Community Living Center, James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Seth G. & Clara Ina Sheffield White. Larry was a 1960 graduate of Unaka High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. Larry was an educator and teacher for 31 years. He received his degree in Social Studies & Education from West Texas State, Canyon, Texas and his Master Degree in Administration at East Tennessee State University. He began his career of teaching at Dimmitt High School, Dimmitt, Texas, then to Madison County High School, Madison, Virginia where he was a teacher and basketball coach, then to Elizabethton High School where he taught history and was Head Basketball Coach for several years, he also served as Principal at TA Dugger Junior High School, Elizabethton, his last school was Boones Creek Middle School where he was Principal. Larry was a former member of the Elizabethton Civitan Club. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church but in recent years he had been attending Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years: Wynell Barnes White who died August 6, 2006.

Survivors include his children: Marcie Strong & husband Dwayne, Ruckersville, Virginia and Lance White & wife Mary Beth, Murfreesboro, Tenn... Four Grandchildren: Sierra & Mackenzie Strong and Emma Grace & Ian White. His brothers: Gary White & wife Sandy and Lanny White & wife Tootie White, two nieces & two nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Hayley officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday will be: Jeff White, Roman White, Luke White, Billy Murphy, Tom Holly, Danny Coombs and Tommy Coombs. Gary Ford White, 76, Elizabethton, born February 22, 1943, passed away after a brief illness at Johnson City Medical Center on Sunday, May 19, 2019.
Gary was employed at North American Rayon, and retired in 2005 from ETSU College of Medicine. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Seth G. and Clara Ina Sheffield White. Gary was a 1961 graduate of Unaka High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Glen White, and sister-in-law, Wynell White.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Ashworth White; children, Jeff White and wife Bonnie, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Julie Murphy and husband Billy, Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Luke, Katie, Michaela, Bella and Maggie White and Meghan and Padraig Murphy; his brother, Lanny White and wife Tootie White; two brothers-in-law, Richard Ashworth and David Ashworth; nephews, Roman White and Lance White; nieces, Marcie Strong and Mandy Holly; several cherished cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his 'special son,' Kevin "Snake" Lewis.
Gary was a member of West Side Christian Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Gary had several hobbies and interests with many great friends gained along the way. Gary was involved in several clubs including: The East Tennessee Antique Engine Club, The 'Barn Buddies,' Elizabethton Saturday Night Car Show Buddies, Unaka High School Class of 1961, Don Hughes Garage in Roan Mountain (Lewis, Bob and Don) and the Easy Auto Board of Directors.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and Johnson City Medical Center ICU for their compassionate care during his brief illness. A special thanks to Dr. Steven Smith and Dr. Jim Davenport, who cared for Gary for many years.

ELIZABETHTON - Patricia Ann Graham "Pat" Lowe, 66, Elizabethton, passed away Monday October 5, 2015 at her residence following an extended illness. Born January 3, 1949 at home on Stoney Creek to the late William Earl and Pauline Shoun Graham. She was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents: Hattie Ward Shoun and TN. "Poly" Shoun, her paternal Grandparents: Dennie Rae Swift Graham Taylor and Theodore Roosevelt Graham of West Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Lynn Edward Graham and Ronald Earl Graham, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Pat was a 1966 graduate of Unaka High School. She was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. She was also a member of Buladeen Citizens Club where she had served as Secretary-Treasurer. Survivors include her son: W. Shane "Sugar Bear" Lowe and his wife Crystal, Her Grandson: Dylan Shane Lowe, he granddaughter: Elizabeth Nicole Lowe. Her Sisters: Brenda Graham Davis and husband Ernie, Kaye D. Graham Moody, sister-in-law: Hilda Street Graham and Carolyn Graham. Her nephews: Kyle Lynn Davis and Emillie Lance & Scott Graham of Michigan, niece Rachael Graham of Michigan. Many great nieces, nephews, cousins and very special friends also survive. Graveside Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 in the Shoun Cemetery,(off Jess Hurley Road, Hwy. 91), Elizabethton with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Randy Keith Shoun, 64, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Leonard and Corine Estep Shoun.
Randy was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Herman Robinson Vocational Technical School. He was retired from the Radiology Department of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He loved working on cars.
Randy was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Blake Tanner, and a sister, Tammy Shoun. Randy was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Cathy Shell Shoun; his children, Brittany Shoun, Olivia Shoun, Jessica Cloutier and Lucas (Brittany) Tanner; several grandchildren; and one brother, Joey (Amy) Shoun.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, January 10, in the Shoun Cemetery with the Rev. Lu Crandell Miller and the Rev. Mike Berry officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Dr. Harold Stout, 84, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday August 30, 2017.

Coach Stout was born in Elizabethton to the late John and Lela Stout. He graduated from Elizabethton High School and had a successful college baseball and basketball career at East Tennessee State University. He completed his Masters in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1959 and his Doctorate in Education from ETSU in 1974. Coach Stout was the head baseball coach at Milligan College for 24 years and at ETSU for 7 years. He had an outstanding and highly accomplished coaching career. Coach Stout made a significant impact on many young men throughout the years by teaching them the value of faith, hard work, sportsmanship and pride.

Coach Stout was also an educator and taught at the College and High School level for over 40 years.

He was also a great father, husband and friend to many people in the East Tennessee community. He loved his family, his church, the game of baseball and his roses. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie and her daughters Paulette, Dena and Donna, son Tony and his wife Lisa and daughters Kendall and Kailee, daughter Anlyn Hughes and her husband John and daughter Stephanie Sibley. He is also survived by his sister Geraldine Kindelon and her sons Al and Nathan Wallace and nieces Nancy Turley and Teri Neil.

Preceded in death by brothers Willard and John Stout and wife Millicent Combs Stout.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN on Sunday September 3rd at 2:00 pm. Pastor Travis Tyler officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12 p.m. to time of service. The Active Pallbearers are: Tony Mitchell, Derek Carrier, Buff Walker, Gary Walker, Mike Cline, Danny Clark, David Brown, and Bruce Perry. The party in heaven got a lot more lively when Geraldine Stout Wallace Kindelon passed through the pearly gates on February 2, 2022, after a brief illness. Geri was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., to John and Lela Stout on August 9, 1941. She moved with her husband to East Cobb in 1972 and lovingly raised two sons, Alton Wallace Jr (Stacie) and Nathan Wallace (Carolyn). As a single mother working her way up from teller to loan officer at C&S Bank and ultimately retiring from Bank of America, Geri never missed an opportunity to cheer her boys on. She enjoyed a loving, two decades long second marriage to Ellis Kindelon, a dashing widower from Southern California, who was a wonderful role model for her sons.
Geri filled a room with her larger-than-life personality, effervescence, quick wit, and charm. A Southern Belle through and through, she could weave a story like no other, offer a helping hand to total strangers and whip up a meal that you’d never forget. Generous to a fault, Geri selflessly turned the focus on others rather than herself and always had a positive outlook that remained intact until the end. Family gatherings were her joy and Christmas was at the top of her list. She spared no expense to spoil her family and not only gave but received what appeared to be an unending stream of gifts from those she touched and friends she gathered from all areas of her life.
Geri leaves behind an adoring plethora of friends and family including her children and grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary, Miles and Cleo Wallace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three older brothers, Willard, John Jr. and Harold Stout.

Billy Edward Cole, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles L. & Ethel Shoun Cole and preceded in death by his brother: Hursel Cole. Billy was a graduate of Unaka class of 1958 and a graduate of East Tennessee State College with a degree in Engineering. He was a retired employee of General Shale as Project Engineer. After his retirement he especially enjoyed working on his farm with his cattle.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years: Linda Pleasant Cole. Three Daughters: Shelby Cole Rasnick & husband, Doug, Barbara Curtis & husband Scott and Christy Simerly and friend Rick Barker. One Granddaughter: Hannah Simerly Marshall & husband Caleb. Also very special nieces: Ann Caskey & husband Mick, Lois Propst & husband Kenneth and Charlene Rinehardt & husband Greg and three great nieces, Betsy, Jenna & Amy.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Jordan and Mr. Doug Rasnick officiating. Mack Simeon Elliott, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Brown and Hazel Shoun Elliott.
Mr. Elliott was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, former Fire Inspector for the Elizabethton Fire Department, Chairman of the Board at Crossroads, and a former member of the Lions Club in Pound, VA.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Helen Ruth Ledford Elliott; daughter, LeAnn Pearce, of Elizabethton; son, Mack Elliott II, of Elizabethton; step-daughter, Leanna Ledford, of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren, Lisa Blevins and husband, Dana, Amy Brooks and husband, Cliff, Sara Eible, Megan Dula-Elliott, David Elliott, Zachary Dula-Elliott, and Kyliegh Elliott; four great grandchildren; sister, Mary Evelyn "Lyn" Elliott Deillinger, of Williamsburg, VA; special friend, Steve Murray; and one niece.
The memorial service for Mr. Elliott will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Donna Jean Shoun Campbell Adams, 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Murfreesboro, TN.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Cora Coefer Shoun. Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton. She was an avid bird watcher and was a former member of (T.O.S.) Tennessee Ornithological Society.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter. Mrs. Adams was a volunteer at the local hospital as a Pink Lady and also volunteered her time at the local crisis center. She enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed Civil War and World War II History books.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Adams, of the home, two daughters, Deanna Lee Campbell Davis and husband, Wesley T. Davis, Cameron, NC, Dani Sue Campbell Thompson and husband, Cory M. Thompson, Murfreesboro, TN, three granddaughters, Jessica Davis Rattlelade and husband, David Rattlelade, Raleigh, NC, Nicole Leigh Davis, Marquette, MI, Kaylen Hall and husband, Drew Hall, Murfreesboro, TN, two great grandchildren, Natalee Hall and Baylee Hall.
The family will hold a memorial service for Mrs. Adams at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton with Rev. John Shuck and Rev. John Martin, officiating.
