Mr. William R. Nunley, affectionately know as "Bill", went to a higher place on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. He was a native of Carter County. He was also an outstanding citizen of the community demonstrated by his kindness, business integrity and leadership over the years. Mr. Nunley served in the military and pursued a career in electronics. Despite a job opportunity with NASA, he chose to remain in the beautiful Northeast Tennessee area he loved to raise his family. He worked at North American Rayon Corporation and Montgomery Ward before venturing into his own business. He began a small television sales and repair shop that evolved into the Nunley's Furniture Stores that have served the Tri-Cities area for over 45 years. Bill had a zest for life not often seen. He was active in sports and had the opportunity to box professionally. Bill was a lover of football games and the Tennessee Vols. His wit and charm always brought smiles and laughter. His kind nature and generous spirit warmed the hearts of everyone around him. Bill was the son of the late Richard and Vertie Nunley. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Nunley, James Nunley, Jack Farmer and one sister, Shirley Baird. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife and business partner, Jewel Nunley, his cherished children, Dr. Diana Nunley-Gorman, Tony Nunley, Delilah Nunley and Deborah Bartley, and his treasured grandchildren, Brooks Gorman, Stuart Gorman, Nicholas Gorman and Myranda Gorman. He is also survived by four sisters, Ann Trivette, Nola Trivette, Gladys Humphrey and Mary Hart. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at 2 p.m. Friday, March 23 at the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace. Interment will follow in Beech Mountain Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mr. Nunley's friends

Ann Nunley Trivett, age 80, of Beech Mountain Road, Elk Park, died March 6, 2016 at home. She was born November 21, 1935 in Holston, VA. She was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church.

Ann is survived by her son, Jimmy Trivette of Elk Park; five grandchildren, Nathan Trivette, Jake Trivette, Matthew Trivette, Luke Trivette and Sommer Trivette, and two great-grandchildren, Candace Trivette and Tatum Cook, all of Elk Park; and two sisters, Nola Trivett of Chattanooga, TN and Mary Jane Hart of Jonesborough, TN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Allen Trivett, two sons, Matthew and Lincoln Trivette; four brothers, James, Jerry, Bill and Jack Nunley; and two sisters, Shirley Baird and Gladys Humphreys.

Funeral services held at the Beech Mountain Community Center, officiated by Rev. Robert Taylor. Burial in the McGuire Cemetery.

Gladys Jean Humphrey, age 76, of Watauga, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Holston, VA, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Vertie Harmon Nunley and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, William Bill Nunley, James “Bunny” Nunley, Jerry Nunley, Jack Farmer; and one sister, Shirley Baird.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Leo Humphrey, of the home; two sons, Leon Humphrey, Sr. and wife, Bernadette; Jeff Humphrey and wife, Hildred, all of Watauga; two daughters, Judy Livingston and husband, George; Lisa Williams and husband, Mark, all of Watauga; three sisters, Nola Gay Trivette, Chattanooga, TN; Mary Jane Hart, Jonesborough, TN; and Ann Trivette, Elk Park, NC; three grandchildren, Ginny Andes and husband, Nick, Elizabethton; Leon Humphrey, Jr. and Ashley Williams, both of Watauga; one great grandson, Jacob “JC” Andes, Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Gladys Jean Humphrey will be conducted at 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Dr. James Richardson and Pastor Roy Yelton, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral service in the chapel and other times at the residence.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 30th at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Jackie V. Farmer, 62, of 440 Tollett St., Hampton, died suddenly, Wednesday, January 8, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Washington County, Va., he was the son of the late William and Nola Harmon Farmer and his birth parents, Richard and Vertie Louise Harmon Nunley.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Jerry Nunley; and a step-son, Terry Dean Davis, Jr.
Mr. Farmer was a member of the Bristol NHRA Dragway Club and owner and operator of the J&K Lane Resurfacing Co.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Ruby Miller Farmer, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Michael Lawson, Elizabethton; Jill and Robert Burrow, and Linda Byrd and James Story, all of Hampton; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jimisue Farmer, Hampton; first wife and mother of the children, Bernie Sue Birchfield, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; one brother, Bill Nunley, Elizabethton; five sisters, Ann Trivette, Elk Park, N.C.; Nola Gay Trivette, Banner Elk, N.C.; Mary Jane Hart, Jonesborough; Gladys Humphreys, Watauga, Tenn., and Shirley Baird, Hampton. Shirley Naomi Baird, age 58, 169 Hazelwood Hollow Rd., Hampton passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Richard and Vertie Harmon Nunley. Mrs. Baird was of the Christian faith and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Nunley, Jerry Nunley and Jack Farmer. Survivors are her husband of forty years, Jerry W. Baird of the home, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard Baird, Kingsport, Mark Baird, Hampton, Brian and Liz Baird, Butler, six grandchildren, Tyler Baird, Kingsport, Haley Baird, Grace Baird, both of Rogersville, Coen Baird, Jacob Baird, Jeremiah Baird, all of Butler, four sisters, Ann Trivette, Elk Park, NC, Nola Gay Trivette, Banner Elk, NC, Mary Jane Hart, Jonesborough, Gladys Humphrey, Watauga, and one brother, Bill Nunley, Elizabethton. Matthew "Huey" Trivette, age 56, of Beech Mountain passed away on September 7, 2012 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.

A native of Avery County, he was born April 12, 1956 a son of Bert and Ann Trivette of Beech Mountain.

He was an outstanding high school athlete in football, wrestling and baseball and lettered in all three sports. He also played football for Lees McRae College and he loved to watch the Green Bay Packers.

Matthew was preceded in death by his brother Lincoln Trivette.

A devoted friend, accommodating and caring person, Matthew has left to cherish his memory his: daughter, Sommer D. Trivette of Hampton, TN.; brother, Jimmy Trivette of Beech Mountain; granddaughter, Tatum Addison Cooke of Hampton, TN; nephews, Nathan Trivette, Jake Trivette, Matt Trivette, Luke Trivette all of Beech Mountain; great niece, Candice Trivette of Beech Mountain; best friend, Nub Taylor of Newland.
