    Merle Church Irick, 82, of Elizabethton, Tenn., took the hand of her precious Lord to join her loved ones before her on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. Merle was born in Carter County, Tenn., on May 19, 1939, a daughter of the late Norman and Louise Miller Church. In addition to her parents, Merle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Irick; a son, Thomas Irick; three brothers, Rev. Dennis Church, Owen Church and Leslie Church; and one sister, Judy Church Parlier.
    Merle retired as a truck driver and was a faithful member of Elk Mills Christian Church. She dedicated her entire life to God and her family and was a former youth leader for her church. In her later years, Merle taught the teenage class at Elk Mills Christian Church and worked tirelessly with the Helping Hands Organization.
    Those left to continue Merle’s legacy and cherish her memory include two sons, Jeffrey Irick and wife Heidi of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Larry Irick and wife Dawn of Tazewell, Va.; one daughter, Lynn Irick of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Justin and Brandon Irick, Jordan and David Whitehead; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Church and wife Reba, and Tony Church and wife Debbie Hardin Church; one sister, Nancy Church Harmon and husband Darrell; a beloved sister-in-law, Nona Church; a bonus daughter, Neta Hurley; and a bonus son, Jerry Irick. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved church family also survive.
    A service to honor and celebrate Merle’s life will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 6, at Elk Mills Christian Church with her brothers, Mr. Tony Church and Mr. Keith Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Keith and Reba Church, Heidi Mollers Irick and Jordan Whitehead. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Walnut Mountain Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brandon Irick, Justin Irick, Josh Irick, David Whitehead, Jordan Whitehead, and a nephew, Jay Irick.

    Merle married Jack C. Irick about 1960 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Jack (son of Thomas M. Irick and Etta J. Oakes) was born on 22 Jan 1936 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 12 May 1997; was buried in Walnut Mountain Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Dennis Church, age 78, of Elk Park, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. He was born on Oct. 19, 1941, in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Norman R. and Louis M. Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one Daughter: Belinda Church; two Brothers: Leslie and Owen Church; and one Sister: Judy Parlier.

    Dennis Church was a great man of faith and loved by all who had the privilege of being in his presence. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1960 where he was a member of the track team. Sometime after he graduated, his Grandma Church told him he would be her preacher. Turns out she was right. He pastored many churches in his lifetime, the most recent being Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church in the Beech Mountain Community for the better part of the past 26 years. He loved God and his family.

    Dennis was faithful and devoted to his church and his friends. He was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved preaching and working in his flower and vegetable gardens. If ever there was an angel to walk this earth, it was him. He is loved and will be missed by everyone. In his words and how he ended all his posts, God is Good.

    Those left to cherish his memory are his loving Wife of 57 years: Junella Church of the home; three Daughters: Melita Russell of Beech Mountain, Edwina Church of Newland, and Sheila Velasquez and husband Roberto of Elk Park; two Brothers: Keith Church and wife Reba of Butler, Tenn., and Tony Church and wife Debbie of Texas; two Sisters: Merle Irick of Elizabethton, Tenn. and Nancy Harmon of Butler, Tenn.; seven Grandchildren: Tiffany Church, Brandy Dial, Kayla Calhoun, Dillon Huffaker, Hannah Presnell, and Aiden and Kadence Russell; six Great-grandchildren: Emmanuel Nichols, Sky Ramsey, Tristan and Rowan Dial, and Jayce and Rosie Calhoun.

    Funeral services was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at Beech Mountain Baptist Church. Interment will follow immediately at the Beech Mountain Church Cemetery.

    Owen Ray Church, 60, of Butler, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital unexpectedly.

    He was a native of Butler, Tennessee and the son of the late Norman and Louise Miller Church. He was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Church was a carpenter and was a U S Army Veteran.

    Survivors include his wife, Reba Church, four brothers, three sisters, two special nieces and several other nieces and nephews.

    Services will be conducted at 2 pm, Saturday, July 26, at Beech Mountain Baptist Church with Rev Dennis Church, Mr. Keith Church and Mr. Andy Porter officiating.

    Judy Evelyn Parlier, 66, of Montezuma, passed away, Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

    She was born a daughter of the late Norman and Louise Miller Church on March 28, 1944 in Carter County, Tennessee. She worked for many years as the Program Coordinator for Yellow Mountain Enterprises. She was a member of the Crossnore First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Owen Ray Church and a sister in law, Judy Church.


    She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Sammy James Parlier of the home; son, Bruce Wayne Parlier, of Montezuma, NC; grandsons, Clinton Parlier of Elizabethton, TN, Richard James Parlier of Spruce Pine, NC; brothers, Keith Church, of Elizabethton, TN, Dennis Church, and his wife, Junella, of Beech Mountain, Leslie Church, and his wife, Nona, of Butler, TN, Tony Church, and his wife, Debbie, of Bonita Springs, FL; sisters, Merle Irick of Elizabethton, TN, Nancy Harmon, and her husband, Darrell, of Butler, TN; sisters in law, Reba Church of Butler, TN, Georgia Gilliam of Banner Elk, Alma Shell of Nashville, TN, Jane Lynch of Pensacola, FL, Willa Jean Parlier of Elk Park, NC; several nieces and nephews including Steve and Robin Gilliam and Shelia and Mike Ruppard of Banner Elk.

    Funeral services for Judy Parlier will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Revs. Lander Heafner and Dennis Church officiating.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. Monday evening until the service hour at the funeral home.

    Family, friends, and pallbearers will gather at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to go in procession to the Beech Mountain Cemetery for interment services. Judy's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

    Judy married Sammy James Parlier about 1965. Mr. Irick was a Brick and Stone Mason.     He was preceded in death by his Parents.

    Bruce attended Crossnore First Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on computers and rebuilding them. He loved music and could play any instrument with strings. He also enjoyed singing and listening to 80s Rock and Roll Music.

    Bruce leaves behind to cherish his memory his Son: Ricky (Jessica) Parlier of Asheville, NC; Son: Clinton Parlier of Elizabethton, Tenn.; Special Friend: Judy Dancy of Newland, NC; several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

    A Memorial Service for Bruce Wayne Parlier will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday Feb. 9, 2020, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

    The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. up until the service hour at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

    Inurnment will follow in Beech Mountain Cemetery on Dark Ridge Rd.
