    ELIZABETHTON - Florence Daugherty, age 97, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

    Florence was born in Carter County to the late George Washington Taylor and Nannie Lyons Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome Daugherty; a daughter, Sheila Daugherty; a son, Roger Daugherty; and five brothers; one sister; seven half-brothers; and two half-sisters.

    Florence was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church, where she had attended since birth and had previously served as clerk and treasurer for over 50 years. Florence enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking for her family and visiting the sick in her community.

    Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Jerry Daugherty and wife Vicky, of Elizabethton and Kyle Daugherty, also of Elizabethton; one grandson, Jerry Daugherty and wife Rachel, of Knoxville; one granddaughter, Jennifer Daugherty, of Elizabethton; three great granddaughters, Emilia and Ella Daugherty, of Knoxville and Harper Smith, of Elizabethton; and one brother, Walter Taylor, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to celebrate the life of Florence Daugherty will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in the Chapel of Tetrick funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Gene Fleenor, officiating. Music will be provided by Joyce Grindstaff. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday.

    The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM on Thursday.

    Walter Coolidge Taylor, 92 passed from this life into his eternal life on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at his home, surrounded by family.

    Walter was born August 23, 1927 to Nanny (Lyons) and George Washington Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Juanita (Whitehead) Taylor and seven brothers and sisters (Herman, Delmer, Emmert, Eugene, Florence, Corinne, and Clarence) as well as nine older half-brothers and sisters.

    Walter served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947 as a military policeman and was stationed at Tachikawa AFB in Japan. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 42 years of service. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who never complained about anything. He enjoyed gardening and working in his year for as long as he was able. He also enjoyed watching the birds at his feeder.

    Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Marlene (Richard) Good and Donna (Dan) Schumaier and two grandsons, John (Ketasha) Goodwin and Jordan Grindstaff who faithfully cared for his Pappaw for the past few months. Walter is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Graham, Gracen and Gretchen Goodwin and several nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to Jordan Grindstaff, his primary caregiver; Ada Chizmar; Debra Broyles; Ballad Health Hospice, especially Greg Matney, RN; Torainna Hensley, CAN – his special friend who he loved to hear sing for him; Candace; Robbie; and Anna, his chaplain who also sang for him. Thanks also to Providence Companion Care, especially Chelseigh and Sandra for their care during his last days and to Dr. David Moulton who took good care of him for many years.

    A graveside burial service was held at Happy Valley Cemetery on July 6, 2019. Thanks to the Carter County Honor Guard for the military honors as well as to the Rev. Luis O'Bourke for the commitment service.

    Walter married Juanita Whitehead on 2 Jun 1951 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee. Juanita (daughter of Frank Stuard Whitehead and Jennie Morton) was born on 14 Nov 1927 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 10 Apr 2019 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.
