William Finley O'Dell, 59, well known resident of the Central Holston section of Sullivan County, died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon in King's Mountain Memorial Hospital, after a lingering illness. Mr. O'Dell is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian Bullock O'Dell, and eight children, Leander O'Dell, of Central Holston, Sgt. Albert O'Dell, with the U. S. Army overseas, Pvt. Charles O'Dell, a prisoner of the Japanese, Pfe. Claude O'Dell, Camp Chaffee, Ariz., Pfe. Cecil O'Dell, Seymour Johnson Field, N. C, Mrs. Wade Witcher of Weavers, and Sara Bertha and Nancy Lee O'Dell, of Central Holston. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending the arrival of relatives.

Leander O'Dell, 68, of Rt. 5, Bristol Tennessee, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bristol Memorial Hospital. Prior to his retirement in 1972, O'Dell served for 42 years in the Sullivan County School System as teacher and also principal at Emmett School and Sunrise School. He was a charter member of Holston Valley Ruritan Club and a member of Central Holston Christian Church where he was an elder. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eileen L. O'Dell; one son, Bill O'Dell, LaCross [sic], Wis.; one daughter, Miss Carol O'Dell, of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Witcher, Bristol, Mrs. Sarah O'Dell, Bluff City, Tenn., Mrs. Nancy Kinchloe, Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles O'Dell and Claude O'Dell, both of Bristol; two grandchildren also survive.

O'Dell - Funeral services for Leander O'Dell will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday from Central Holston Christian Church with Wayne Emery, minister, and Howard Taylor, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shipley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and honorary pallbearers will be Dr. N. J. Chew: Dr. Charles Harkerader, Dr. Sarfraz A. Zaidi, elders of the Central Holston Christian Church, and members of the South Holston Ruritan Club. The body will remain at the Akard Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Charles Henry O'Dell, 74, Route 5, BristoL, Tenn., died Thursday, Nov. 24, 1988, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was held as a P. O. W. He was a retired electrician, having worked at the Monroe Company and Easley Heating Service. He was a member of the Central Holston Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Virginia O'Dell; one daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Flynn) O'Neal, Bristol Tennessee; one son, Dr. Charles S. O'Dell, Chevy Chase, Md.; one brother, Claude O'Dell, Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Sarah Bertha O'Dell, Bluff City, and Nancy Lee Kincheloe, Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews

Funeral services for Charles Henry O'Dell will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Central Holston Christian Church with Sid Tiller and Dr. Roy Searem officiating. Burial will follow in Shipley Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975. Cecil A. O'Dell, 44. died at his home on Route 3, Bristol Tennessee, Saturday afternoon following a brief illness. He was a member of the Central Holston Christian Church and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 9625, Bluff City, and Hackler Wood American Legion Post. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Easterly O'Dell; a son, Bobby O'Dell; a daughter, Miss Donna O'Dell, all ofthe home; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Bullock O'Dell, Bristol; four brothers, Leander O'Dell, Charles O'Dell, Claude O'Dell, all of Bristol, and Albert O'Dell, Detroit, Mich.; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Witcher, Bristol, Mrs. Sarah O'Dell, Bluff City, and Mrs. Nancy Kinchloe, Knoxville, Tenn.

BLUFF CITY - Ernest Edward Morrell, age 93, of Bluff City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the VA Community Living Center.

He was born April 17, 1926 in Bristol, Tenn., a son of the late Edgar and Rosa Belle Carrier Morrell. Ernest was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran. He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and retired from Mason-Dixon Trucking. He was a member of Central Holston Christian Church. Ernest was an avid turkey and deer hunter and fly fisherman. Ernest was a good friend to all and never hesitated to help family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Hopson Morrell.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen Rose Morrell Parker and husband Bob; grandson, Charles Parker; and siblings, J.D. Morrell and Nell Campbell.

The funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Steve Page officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service. The interment will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Shipley Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. KINGSPORT - Our patriarch, Charles Stanley O'Dell, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away May 29, 2019.

Born September 13, 1947 in Bristol, Virginia, he was the son of the late Virginia Frances Edens and Charles Henry O'Dell. He completed his B.S. degree in chemistry at King College before joining the U.S. Navy, where he served as a medical corpsman at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, during the Vietnam War. He then received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from American University in Washington, DC, where he relished cycling expeditions up to 100 miles for exercise and relaxation. He traveled throughout Europe during his post-doctoral studies in England, where he became a lifelong fan of Premier League soccer and the Newcastle United Magpies.

Following his distinguished career at the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, DC, where his work included addressing safety issues related to nuclear waste storage, he retired to Kingsport. He fulfilled his dream of living on Patrick Henry Lake and enjoying his favorite pursuits of golf, fishing, and a passion for watching sports, especially his Magpies.

A devoted, loving and cherished companion and surrogate father and grandfather, he is survived by long-time life partner Jane Tyler Cushman, her son Jason Castagna (Samantha) and grandsons Cole Castagna and Dane Castagna of Carlsbad, California; his sister, Lynn O'Neal (Dennis) of Bristol, TN, with whom he was extraordinarily close; his niece Sherri Lynn Brown (Shaun) and his adored great niece, Adalyn Brown, of Buffalo, NY; numerous cousins; and a multitude of friends.

Ever the scientist, Dr. O'Dell donated his body to medical science.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at his family's church, Central Holston Christian Church, 261 Sandbar Road, Bristol, TN. A memorial service and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
