    Lou Martin, 93, of Burleson Road in Plumtree, NC, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at her home.

    Born on March 2, 1930 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Berdie Hamrick Burleson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Martin who passed away in 2013. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Frank Richard Burleson, Al Burleson, Jim Burleson and her grandchildren Brandon Biddix and Elizabeth Knowles.

    Lou was a member of the Crossnore Presbyterian Church and she sang in the church choir. She retired from the Avery County School system and spent thirty-five years as an educator. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also sang in the High Country Chorale Choir.

    Lou loved working with plants and flowers and had a green thumb. She also enjoyed sewing and working in crafts and had a collection of tiny, adorable items. She never missed an event of her family members, she enjoyed traveling, the doors of her house were always open for anyone, and she cared for the well-being of animals.

    Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill Martin of Charlotte, Susy Martin Crouch of Plumtree and Harold Crouch of Salisbury, Melynda Martin Pepple and husband, Doug of Newland, Cindy Martin of Durham and partner, Ben Knowles of Durham, and Robby Martin of Newland; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service to celebrate the life of Lou Martin was held April 1, 2023 at the Crossnore Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathy Campbell officiating.

    Lucy married Robert Lee Martin on 2 Sep 1950 in , Avery County, North Carolina, . Robert was born on 14 May 1921 in , Forsyth County, North Carolina, ; died in 3 Mar 2013 in , Watauga County, North Carolina, ; was buried in Crossnore Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Avery County, North Carolina, .     Alfred H. Burleson, 82, of Lexington, S.C. passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC.

    He was born Aug. 6, 1936 in Plumtree, NC to the late Frank and Berdie Burleson. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959 as a mechanic and was a part of the 461st Bombardment Wing. He retired from Honeywell after working more than 30 years for several companies as an in-demand HVAC mechanic repairing large industrial HVAC systems all over the southeast. He utilized his mechanical expertise on his favorite project: creating the cooling unit for the original penguin enclosure at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. He was an enthusiastic model builder, often making parts by hand for model airplanes, boats, and cars.

    His beloved wife, Elaine, preceded him in death. They met at Cranberry High School in Avery County, NC and were married for 48 years. Al was also predeceased by his brothers: Jim and Frank Richard Burleson.

    He is survived by his Daughters: Patricia Culbreth and Kim Dcosta; Grandchildren: Blair Culbreth and Alex Culbreth; and Sister: Lou Ann Martin.

Kristen (daughter of George Michael Bowman and Mary Roberta Camak) was born on 15 Oct 1936 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 6 Dec 2007 in Richland County, , , South Carolina.
