Devoe "Leroy" Brown, 88, Johnson City, died Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.

Leroy was born in Avery County, NC to the late Bernie Brown and Dansford Lunsford Copas. He worked as a mechanic at Leon-Ferenbach for 57 years. Leroy enjoyed farming, Elvis Presley, NASCAR racing, especially Richard Petty. Along with his parents, several brothers and sisters precede him in death.

His survivors include his loving wife Shirley Ann Trapp Brown of 58 years; 2 sons, Dennis Brown (Debbie), Bernie Brown (Kathy) all of Johnson City; a daughter, Sharon Shell (Duane) of Johnson City; 2 grandsons, Mike Brown (Missy) of Bristol, Dennis Brown of Johnson City; a very special granddaughter, Christy Walter of Johnson City; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2019, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene Deaton and Rev. Tony Trott officiating. The committal graveside service will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.

JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Sue Copas Nickles, age 76, of Johnson City died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton.

Carolyn was born on October 29, 1942 in Johnson City to the late Horace Copas and Dansford Lundsford Copas. She was a homemaker and she raised six children. Her family will always remember her enthusiasm for attending yard sales.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Nickles; two sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Ricky (Sandy) Nickles, Tina Nickles, Bobby Joe (Renee) Nickles, Brian (Teresa) Nickles, Tiffany Nickles and J.R. Christenson, and Candy Cordova and Larry White; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Sherry) Copas, David (Barbara) Copas, Billy Joe Copas, Leroy (Shirley) Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn's family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens.

Billy Gene Grace, Sr, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

Bill was a man who loved his family and showed his love well by his hard work ethic. Bill worked many years for the City of Johnson City in the Waste Management Division, and upon retiring from the City, he went to work at the Johnson City Country Club in the Groundskeeping Division. Bill’s passion in life was lawn work and he loved every minute of it. He enjoyed his hours spent on his mower and tractor and took pride in his humble life. If you were lucky enough to catch him resting, he was most likely sitting on his front porch in a rocking chair or attending University of Tennessee athletic events. A man of few words, he showed his love by his kind acts of service and did whatever he could to help those he loved.

Bill is survived by: his wife, Earnestine, of 60 years; his daughters, Emori Barnes (Eric), Alvina Ketron (Jeff), and Suzanne Hunsinger (Todd); grandchildren, Angel, Jacque, Mindy, Erica, Erin, Jeffrey, Casey; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Noah, Emma, Blake, Jonathan, and Walker; sister, Kathleen Arnold; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by: his daughter, Janet; his only son, Billy Gene Grace, Jr; his parents, Howard and Oma Copas Grace; and several siblings.

The family of Billy Grace, Sr. will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral will follow with Pastor Buddy Cretsinger officiating. The committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 687 Pleasant Grove Rd., Limestone, TN 37681. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 AM. Pallbearers will be Eric Barnes, Todd Hunsinger, Jeff Ketron, Jerry Woodard, Matt Gouge, Cody Brooks, Richard Tucker, and James Tucker Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Dellinger, Bruce Wilcox, James Tucker Sr., Lynn Walker, and John Wilcox.
