    Notes:

    Richard D. Lowe, age 85, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away at Broadmore Assisted Living on Saturday, January 2 after a short illness.

    Richard was preceded in death by parents, Kemp and Callie Shoun Lowe, and brothers and sisters, Earl, Ned, Nathan, Van, Ruth Chambers, Bess Branch, Grace Hines, and Anna June Lowe, as well as his first wife, Edith Roberts Lowe, who died on June 25, 1990, and second wife, Jean Darr Lowe, who died on November 17, 2008.

    He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Agnes Lowe, Telford, TN; and numerous nephews and nieces, including Patricia Reece, Mountain City, TN; Darryl Lowe, Knoxville, TN; Nathan Lowe, Jr., Bristol, TN, Robert Lowe, Roanoke, VA, Felix Lowe, Bluffton, SC., Elisabeth Munsey, Johnson City, TN, David Lowe, Middleton MA, Donna Penick, Northridge, CA, Eddie Penick, Roanoke, VA and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

    Richard served with the U.S. Navy in the Second World War from May 13, 1941, until the date of his honorable discharge on October 23, 1945. After discharge from the Navy, Richard worked in Washington D.C. as a commercial painter until he retired and moved to Johnson City. He was very close to his many friends from "the paint store." He loved to travel and sailed on many cruises all around the world. He also enjoyed UT football and tailgating.

    Special recognition to niece Diane Saults and great nieces Lisa Orr and Penny Reece for their devoted love and attention. Also, thanks to the many special people at Broadmore Assisted Living who got to know Richard well in such a short period of time and who provided care for him.

    The family will receive friends on Tuesday 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The family will then proceed to Washington County Memory Gardens for graveside services at 2:30 p.m.
