Hubert “Butch” Lunsford, 71, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at his home.
Butch was born on June 21, 1950 in Avery County, N.C., a son of Choss Lunsford and Lucy Oaks Lunsford.
Butch enjoyed re-building old cars and riding motorcycles, car shows, yard work and watching old westerns.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father, Choss Lunsford, and Lucy Jane Oaks Lunsford, and two brothers, Bert Lacy and Choss Lunsford Jr.
Hubert “Butch” leaves behind to cherish his memory wife Joan Lunsford; two sisters, Ruby Thompson and Lois Phillips; brother, Kenny “Dianne” Lunsford; two daughters, Tricia “Michael” Thompson and Ramona “Gary” Warren; three step-sons, William Singleton “Jessica,” Mike Singleton, and Stephen “Amanda” Singleton; brothers-in-law, Jr. “Donna” Singleton and Billy “Pam” Singleton; sister-in-law, Jeanne “Alfred” McClellan; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services for Hubert “Butch” Lunsford will be held on Friday, May 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. David Burnop officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. until the service hour on Friday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Heaton Cemetery.

Devoe "Leroy" Brown, 88, Johnson City, died Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.

Leroy was born in Avery County, NC to the late Bernie Brown and Dansford Lunsford Copas. He worked as a mechanic at Leon-Ferenbach for 57 years. Leroy enjoyed farming, Elvis Presley, NASCAR racing, especially Richard Petty. Along with his parents, several brothers and sisters precede him in death.

His survivors include his loving wife Shirley Ann Trapp Brown of 58 years; 2 sons, Dennis Brown (Debbie), Bernie Brown (Kathy) all of Johnson City; a daughter, Sharon Shell (Duane) of Johnson City; 2 grandsons, Mike Brown (Missy) of Bristol, Dennis Brown of Johnson City; a very special granddaughter, Christy Walter of Johnson City; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 2, 2019, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Gene Deaton and Rev. Tony Trott officiating. The committal graveside service will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.

JOHNSON CITY - Carolyn Sue Copas Nickles, age 76, of Johnson City died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton.

Carolyn was born on October 29, 1942 in Johnson City to the late Horace Copas and Dansford Lundsford Copas. She was a homemaker and she raised six children. Her family will always remember her enthusiasm for attending yard sales.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Nickles; two sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Ricky (Sandy) Nickles, Tina Nickles, Bobby Joe (Renee) Nickles, Brian (Teresa) Nickles, Tiffany Nickles and J.R. Christenson, and Candy Cordova and Larry White; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (Sherry) Copas, David (Barbara) Copas, Billy Joe Copas, Leroy (Shirley) Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn's family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Washington County Memory Gardens.

JOHNSON CITY - Diana Lynn Tolley Fagans, 55, of Johnson City passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was a lifetime native of Johnson City and was a daughter of Samuel Tolley of Johnson City and the late Louise Copas Tolley. Diana attended McKinley Memorial Bible Church. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Tolley Jr…

Survivors in addition to her father include her son, Chris Pickering of Johnson City; four sisters, Delaine Sanders of Erwin, Debbie Grindstaff, Stephanie Tolley and Sandra Kinley all of Johnson City; her granddaughter, Macayla Pickering of Dayton, TN; also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Diana will be conducted at 2:30 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the McKinley Memorial Bible Church with Pastor Lenny Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM then go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.
