Mrs. Betty J. Collins, age 72, died at her home in the 3rd district this morning at 3:45 o'clock, after an illness of several months. Mrs. Collins was a native of Carter county and had lived her entire life in Carter county. She was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist church.
Survivors: three daughters, Mrs. Ida Rose, Mrs. Dana Hill, Hampton, Mrs. John Orr; two sons, Elisah, Luther, Hampton; two brothers, Jobe Gouge, Jonesboro, R. A. Gouge, Hampton; twelve grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Little Doe Free Will Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Carl Osborne.
Burial will be made in the Collins cemetery.

TALBOTT – Jimmy Dale Collins, 60, Talbott, Tennessee passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016, in the St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Elisha & Gladys Bentley Collins. Jimmy was a 1973 graduate of Cloudland High School. He was employed as a truck driver with Yellow Roadway Corporation. He had lived in Talbott for the past 14 years. Jimmy was a member of the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church, Hampton.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Kathy Whitehead Collins; a son, James Matthew Collins, Dickinson, North Dakota; three sisters & two brothers-in-law, Betty & Barney McKinney, Judy McKinney and Helen & Gerald Roark all of Hampton; two brothers & one sister-in-law, George Collins and Mike & Sharon Collins, both of Hampton; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Sue Whitehead, Elizabethton; his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Sidney & Barbara Smith, Donna Whitehead, Michael Whitehead all of Elizabethton and Jeffery & Angela Hathaway of Florida; several nieces, nephews & cousins.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Peace Free Will Baptist Church, 600 S. David Crockett Parkway, Morristown with the Rev. Chris Dotson and Rev. Bill Houk officiating. Music will be provided by Rebecca Dotson. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

There will be another service for Jimmy at 1 p.m. on Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Shane Waters and Red. Ed Gregg officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Lisa Burdick. Active Pallbearers for both services will be: Donnie Sauceman, David Hilton, Jimmy Greer, Mark Trent, Billy Williams and Bobby Jernigan. ELIZABETHTON - June Collins, age 89, of Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022. June was born in Carter County, TN to the late Luther and Irene Miller Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother; Bill Collins and brother-in-law, Tyler Welch.
June Collins was a woman of the Baptist faith who loved to shop, travel and spend time with her daughter and granddaughter. She was a graduate of Hampton High School and attended ETSU and Steed College. June made a career as a Legal Secretary for Duggar-Cole Attorney for forty five years.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Carolyn Pilkton and husband Dean of Elizabethton; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Pilkton, sister, Jane Welch, nephews, Joshua Todd Welch and Antony Steven Collins; a great niece, Alli Nave; special friend, Charlotte Montgomery; caregiver, Wanda Hyder.
A service to honor the life of June Collins will be conducted at 6:30 PM on Jan. 22, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home-Elizabethton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home chapel.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Her-man Hill, age 78, of Hamp-ton, passed away on Tues-day, May 12, 2015, at the John-son City Med-i-cal Center.
Her-man was a na-tive of Carter County and was a son of the late Dana and Retta Collins Hill. In ad-di-tion to his par-ents, he was pre-ceded in death by a brother, Bill Hill; three sis-ters, Sally Pierce, Ivory Lewis and Mil-dred Hill; and two neph-ews, Neil Moody and Robert Stoc-ton.
Mr. Hill re-tired from High-way's In-cor-po-rated, where he held var-i-ous man-age-ment roles. He was of the Free Will Bap-tist faith and en-joyed gar-den-ing. He was an ex-pert in lo-cal his-tory and en-joyed ge-ne-al-ogy. Her-man was a very giv-ing and self-less per-son, his great-est joy was spend-ing time with his grand-chil-dren.

Mary Evelyn Hill Shultz "Pood," 73, of Lenoir City, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019, after a three year battle with cancer. Mary was born in Banner Elk, N.C., on November 6, 1946 to the late Retta Collins Hill and Dana Hill. Mary was predeceased by her two brothers, Herman Hill and Bill Hill; sister, Sallie Hill Pierce; two half sisters, Mildred Hill and Ivory Lewis; and nephew, Robert Neil Moody.
Mary grew up in Hampton, Tenn., and graduated from Hampton High School. She married her husband, W.H. Shultz Jr. "Bill," on October 6, 1966. They had recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Mary lived in Elizabethton, Tenn., with her husband and children for over 25 years. During that time she worked at East Tennessee Undergarment. In 1990, Mary and Bill moved to Lenoir City, Tenn., where she took a job with TRW Koyo in Vonore, Tenn. She worked there until her retirement in 1995.
Mary's retirement years were spent loving on her family. She was a wonderful cook, loved vacations on the sandy Gulf Coast beaches and enjoyed every moment she could with her husband, children and grandchildren. Their activities and being "mamaw" gave her so much pride and joy. She was a selfless woman who never met a stranger and loved doing things for others.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bill; her daughter, Cynthia Shultz Noles (Bruce); her son, W.H. Shultz III "Billy"; and grandchildren, Victoria Anne Noles, William Taylor Shultz and Madison Bailey Shultz, all of Lenoir City, Tenn. She is also survived by a brother, John Hill (Frieda), and two sisters, Jane Lyons and Susie Moody (Bob). She is also blessed by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins left to remember her.
Receiving of family and friends will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tenn. Following receiving of family and friends, the funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Alan King at 2 p.m. The graveside service and internment will follow immediately at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends in attendance.

ELIZABETHTON - Charles Ray Morton, age 72, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Charles was born January 5, 1950 in Elizabethton to the late Henry Morton and Irene (Cornett) Morton Nave. In addition to his parents, Charles was also preceded in death by four sisters, Marion Hulse, Louise Ingram, Monnie Willliams and Charlotte Street; and two brothers, Cecil Morton and Leonard Morton.

Charles was the most loving person, husband and was a wonderful provider for his family. He had worked in the construction business at PSG and also was a self-employed lawn service provider. He was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church where he loved greeting people at the door. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his yard.

Those left to cherish Charles’s memory include his wife of 25 years, Becky Morton of Elizabethton; his sons, Joe Lingerfelt, Sampson Lingerfelt and Jason (Brandi) Lingerfelt all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Joseph, Maci, Aiden and Patricia; four sisters, Iva Lee Beamer, Carolyn Lyons, Joyce Norman and Ruthie Loveless; and one brother, James Nave.

ELIZABETHTON - Lois Ann Hodge Ward, 83, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County she was born March 13, 1939 to the late John & Alice Morton Hodge. She was retired from the Carter County School System after 30 plus years as a cook. Lois loved Blue Grass Music. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church but attended Valley Forge Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Ward and two sisters: Wilma Hampton and Carol Treadway.

Survivors include Her Sisters: Geraldean Grindstaff, Glenna Bullock and Johnnie (Raymond) Holtsclaw. Her chosen sister: Norma Jean Williams. Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2022 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler Minister officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons Cemetery. Carol was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a retired employee of Happy Valley Credit Union. Carol attended Zion Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Blue” Treadway who passed away April 26, 2016 and by a sister: Wilma Hampton. Carol loved Blue Grass Music, loved being around people and spending time with her family most of all her grandchildren.

Juanita Whitehead Taylor, 91, of Elizabethton, passed from this life to her eternal life on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, following a lengthy illness. Juanita was born on November 14, 1927 to the late Frank Stuart and Jennie Morton Whitehead. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fate Whitehead, and an infant sister, Ethel.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 68 years, Walter Taylor, and daughters, Marlene (Richard) Good and Donna (Dan) Schumaier; her grandsons, John (Ketasha) Goodwin and Jordan Grindstaff; three great-grandchildren, Graham, Gracen and Gretchen Goodwin; along with several nieces and nephews.
Juanita was a member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church. She loved being outdoors and was happiest in her garden or yard. She loved animals and had several special pets through the years. She also loved feeding the birds and watching and identifying them.
A Celebration of Juanita's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Luis O'Bourke officiating. Music will be provided by John and Ketasha Goodwin. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William & Essie Murray Morton. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and work in her yard. She attended Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julius Tolley who died July 3, 1994 and by four brothers and one sister.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Dexter Brummitt officiating. Burial will follow the service. Narvel Whitehead, 78, 3308 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Whitehead was a native of Hampton and a son of the late Henry and Lucy Morton Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Whitehead was a retired store room clerk at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member and deacon of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church and a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a Disabled Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Hughes Whitehead; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ned Isaacs, Hampton; a son, Alvin Whitehead, of the home; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Shirley Whitehead, Johnson City, and Louis and Dale Whitehead, Hampton; two sisters, Hazel Malone and Crystal Johnson, both of Hampton; a granddaughter, Beth Amy Isaacs; and three aunts, Tina Humphreys and Julie Miller, both of Elizabethton, and Arizona Hopson, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

WHITEHEAD -- Funeral services for Narvel Whitehead, 78, 3308 Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, March 16, 2002, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church (Simerly Creek Road), Elizabethton, with the Rev. Sam Ferguson, the Rev. Shane Waters and the Rev. Bill Jaynes officiating. Music will be provided
by John Hensley and the Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Interment will be in the Whitehead Cemetery. Crystal Whitehead Johnson, age 78, 197 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, and Life Care Center of Elizabethton, died Sunday, December 7, 2003
in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Lucy Morton Whitehead. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Little Doe Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired nurse.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James "Black" Johnson, and three brothers, Babe Whitehead, Lester Whitehead and Narvel Whitehead.
Survivors include one step-daughter and spouse, Lucy Nell and George Sells, of Johnson City; two step sons and spouses, Lynn and Jeanie
Johnson, Elizabethton; Pat and Maggie Johnson, Gray; two brothers and spouses, Ed and Shirley Whitehead, Johnson City; Louis and Vale

JOHNSON CITY - Ed Whitehead, 90. Johnson City, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the Hillview Health Center. He was born December 24, 1930, in Hampton to the late Henry & Lucy Morton Whitehead. He was a 1949 graduate of Hampton High School. Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired truck driver. He formerly worked at ETWNC and Jones Truck Line. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Narvel & Louis Whitehead and two sisters: Crystal Johnson and Hazel Malone.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years: Shirley Simerly Whitehead. One Daughter & Son-In-Law: Deborah & David Shankle of Johnson City. Two Grandchildren: David E. (Victoria) Shankle and Daniel (Ashley) Shankle. Three Great Grandchildren: David R., Emma and Edmund. Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with his Nephew Pastor Greg Whitehead officiating, also assisting is Pastor Chuck Babb. Graveside Service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family. Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post 2108.

HAMPTON - Louis Whitehead, 80, Hampton, passed away peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Henry A. & Lucy Morton Whitehead. Louis was a 1955 graduate of Hampton High School and attended East Tennessee State College. He served in the United States Army. He was a retired Tool & Die Maker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Navel Whitehead, Two Sisters: Crystal Johnson and Hazel Malone and two infant brothers. He was a Member and Deacon of Morgan Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years: Dale Roberts Whitehead. Three Children: Vickie Whitehead Jenkins, Deltona, Florida, Lisa Whitehead Blackburn and husband Dana, and Greg Whitehead and wife Celena all of Hampton. Five Grandchildren: Allison and Kayla Jenkins, Stone Hutchinson, Kelli Blackburn and Louis Seth Whitehead. One Brother: Ed Whitehead and wife Shirley, Johnson City. Several nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with his son Pastor Greg Whitehead officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in the Whitehead Cemetery with Pastor Troy Davis officiating. Music will be provided by his granddaughter, Kayla Jenkins. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday will be: Willie Morgan, Mike Hill, Malone Hill, Joe Vance, Stone Hutchinson, Zane Blevins and Danny Winters.
