    MOUNTAIN CITY - Edward Earl Payne, 98, of Mountain City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Mr. Payne was born in Shouns, Tennessee on June 27, 1920, to the late William Bymum Payne and Ollie Lena Potter Payne.

    Earl was a life-long resident of Mountain City and graduated from Johnson County High School. Earl served in the US Army during World War II (1942-1945), attaining the rank of Corporal.

    Earl wasemployed as a rural mail carrier in Mt. City (RR #1) from 1956 to 1980. He was the oldest charter member of Antioch Baptist Church (1946). Earl enjoyed playing and signing with his wife, Stella, in various bluegrass groups. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

    Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Stella Tolliver Payne; Nephews: John Taylor and wife Sharon of Knoxville, TN and Jim Taylor and wife Joan, of New Castle, DE; Sisters-in-Law: Lorella Tolliver of Shady Valley, TN and Joanne Tolliver of Bristol, TN.

    Funeral service for Mr. Payne will be held at 7pm on Saturday, November 24, 2018, in the Charlie B. Hux Memorial Chapel at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Preacher Mac Arnold officiating and Preacher Ray Vaught assisting. The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 7pm prior to the service.

    Entombment with Military Honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held at 1pm on Sunday, November 25, 2018, in the Sunset Memorial Garden Mausoleum of Love.
