    JOHNSON CITY - Margaret "Blanche" Garland, 93, of Johnson City passed away at her home Wednesday November 28, 2018.

    She was a native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and the daughter of the late Robert and Maude Wilson McKinney. Blanche was a long time member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Blanche was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Blanche was a righteous woman who loved the Lord and was always willing to help others. Blanche enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, and gardening.

    Blanche is preceded in death by her husband Ray Garland, her three brothers Claude, Cecil, and Marvin Mckinney, and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

    Survivors include one son, Michael Garland Sr. and wife Leesa of Nashville, a grandson Michael Garland Jr. and wife Molly of Johnson City, two step grandchildren, Matthew Weaver and wife Whitney, Tyler Scalf of Nashville, three great grandchildren, Mila Garland, Ethan and Evelin Weaver, a sister in law, Bobbie Mckinney, along with several nieces and nephews.

    Visitation will be Monday December 3, 2018 from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Tetrick Funeral Services 3001 Peoples St. Johnson City Tennessee, 37604, with a funeral service to follow beginning at 3:00pm with Reverend Harold Morelock officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Mountain Home National Cemetery beginning at 1:00pm. Pallbearers will be Richard Garland, Matthew Garland, Robert McKinney, Brian McKinney, Michael Garland Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Weaver, Tyler Scalf, and John Tipton. Everyone who wishes to attend the graveside service is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50pm.

    Marvin B. McKinney, 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Mitchell County, NC, he was the son of the late Robert and Maude Wilson McKinney. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil McKinney and Claude McKinney, and several half-bothers and half-sisters.

    Survivors include his wife, Bobbie McKinney, one daughter, Karen Garland, and her husband, Richard; one grandson, Matthew Garland, and his wife, Rachel; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; one great-grandson, Will; a sister, Blanche Garland and several nieces and nephews.

    Mr. McKinney served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and worked in printing at ETSU at the University Press. He loved God, his church, and his family. He was an active member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, golf, NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves.

    A service to honor the life of Mr. McKinney will be conducted on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Garry Edwards officiating. Music will provided by Lora Lowe. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Sunday prior to the service.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Memory Gardens with Pastor Jayson Hoagland officiating. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.

    UNICOI - Mack Cook, age 97 of Unicoi, TN passed away on Friday June 17, 2022 at the Sacred Ground Hospice House in Knoxville, TN. He loved old cars, especially Fords. Before discovering his love for the building industry, Mack was in the sawmill business. Later he started Cook Brothers Building Company with his family. They all joked “he was the brains of the operation.” Mack was of the Apostolic Faith. He is remembered as a kind, loving, and very giving person.

    Mack is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Charlie Roosevelt Cook and wife, Carrie Estella Gouge Cook, his 1st wife Cora Evelyn Newton Cook, and his 2nd wife, Barbara Scott Cook. He also is preceded in death by his only son Warrant officer, Donald Richard Cook, (KIA) Vietnam 1970, brother, Rev. Dallas Cook and his wife Mabel, sisters, Argie Lee Rachel Williams, and brother – in – law Garner Williams.

    Mack is survived by his sister, Betty McCool and her husband Bishop Billy D. McCool, several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

    The Cook family welcomes friends to join them at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E Watauga Ave. Johnson City, TN. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 for Mack’s visitation from 5:30pm until 7:00pm. A celebration of life will begin at 7:00 pm with Bishop Billy McCool officiating, assisted by Pastor Mark McCool.

    Friends and family will gather for the committal and interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
