    Notes:

    Mr. Clifford James Ward, 56, of 3125 35th Street Court, N.E., Hickory, a native and former resident of Avery County, died Friday afternoon, March 14, 2003, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.
    He was born March 28, 1946, in Beech Creek, to Viola Stines Ward and the late Monroe James Ward.
    Mr. Ward was a graduate of Avery High School and a cook at the Box Car Grill in Hickory. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Vilas.
    Survivors include two sons, Michael Ward of Hickory and Truett Ward of Hudson; his mother, Mrs. Viola Stines Phillips of Vilas; and three sisters, Ms. Jean Dishman of Lenoir, Geraldine Watson and husband, Troy, of Boone and Linda Walls and husband, Robert, of Vilas.
    He is also survived by seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
    Services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Harold Danner. Burial followed in the Beech Valley Community Cemetery.
