JOHNSON CITY - Bradley Gouge left this world to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, September 27th 2018.

He was a native of Mitchell County, NC and lived in Johnson City, TN for more than 40 years. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Embreeville Church of Christ. He was the son of the late Ed and Sally Gouge.

He was a hard-working and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who spent countless hours in the fields tending cattle and crops even through retirement. Bradley leaves behind a legacy of deep love, strong faith, and cherished family.

Bradley was preceded in death by his dear wife of 69 years, Charlene Gouge, his loving son Eddie Gouge, brother Farrell Gouge, and sisters Helena Buchanan, Ethel Harrell, Myrtle Garland, Pansy Tipton, and Edna Masters.

Survivors include four sons; Jim Gouge and wife Kay, Mike Gouge, Ron Gouge and wife Gail, Rick Gouge and wife Chrissy, all of Johnson City, TN. Three daughters; Phyllis Garland and husband Sam of Bakersville, NC, Connie Garland and husband Lonnie, and Sally Parker and husband Jim, both of Jonesborough, TN. Daughter in Law, Frances Gouge of Jonesborough, TN; seventeen grandchildren and thirty two great-grandchildren; two sisters Mary Parker of Gray, TN and Lois Street of Bakersville, NC. Bradley was a treasure and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 7:30PM in Morris - Baker Funeral Home (2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601), with Kevin Laws and Garland Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will be Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00AM at Roselawn Memory Gardens (3033 S Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.

On June 29th Fred Stewart Gouge went home to meet his lord and savior. Fred was born in Carter County on June 2, 1939 to Ben J. Gouge and Geneva Whitson Gouge. He attended Milligan FWB. He was a US Army veteran. He was a machinist and could make anything. He was a quiet kind man who would help anyone in need. He loved motorcycles and refinished guitars. In addition to his parents, his two brothers preceded him. Ernest E. Gouge and Floyd A. Gouge. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Rachel whom he loved dearly and took care of her. He was the love of her life., brother- in- law Joseph T. Prater (Linda), sister- in- law Margaret Gouge Nopo (German), two nephews Todd Gouge whom he loved, Scott Gouge whom he loved as a son. Scott took care of him for the past year. Two nieces he loved so much, Julie Carroll (Jeff) and Leah Carroll, his princess he loved like a daughter. His cousin Roy Gouge and Richard Whitson. Wish to thank the VA for all the wonderful care they have given Fred. Too many to name. The Med Center and Hospice for their care and special thanks to Dr. Mitchel for his compassion in keeping Rachel updated and making Fred comfortable.. Forever grateful. A VA funeral at a later date.

JOHNSON CITY - Floyd Hershel Buchanan, 91 Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at the Waters of Johnson City.

A native of Buleadean, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Clyde & Helena Gouge Buchanan. He was Manager of Park Belks for 46 years. Mr. Buchanan was a founding member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 71 years: Geraldine Archer Buchanan.

Survivors include his children: Shelby Jean (Blaine) Shoun, Sharon McKenzie, Whitney Bowling and Susie (Jim) Muller. Two Grandchildren: Corey (Keisha) and Jeremiah (Heidi) Shoun. Three Great Grandchildren: Darcie Dosher, Lyla Shoun and Cora Shoun. A Sister: Myrtle Buchanan, Several nieces & nephews.

Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2019 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Walker Roberson officiating. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday will be: Hershel Bennett, Corey Shoun, Jeremiah Shoun, Blaine Shoun, Tim Archer, Chris Bowling and Nick Powers. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family.

JOHNSON CITY - Myrtle B. Buchanan, 91, Johnson City, died Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Governor’s Bend Retirement & Assisted Living Community, Erwin, following a brief illness.

Myrtle was a native of Bakersville, NC, and lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Clyde and Helena Gouge Buchanan.

Myrtle was employed with E.T.S.U. where she worked in the Administration Building, retiring in 1995 after twenty-seven years of service. She formerly worked at Thomas Products and Steinway Clothing Co.

Myrtle attended Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

She was a resident of Governor’s Bend for the past four years, where she loved her breakfast each day then spending time by the fireplace in the Garden Room, enjoying her York Peppermint Patties and having her hair done by Linda Flack each Tuesday.

The family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to her entire Governor’s Bend “family”, which includes the nursing staff, R.A.’s, office, cafeteria, and housekeeping staff, Amedisys Hospice, and the other residence who were always so kind to Myrtle.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Hershel Buchanan, infant sister, Shelby Jean, and special son-in-law, Farrell Bennett.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bennett, Johnson City; two grandsons, Hershel Bennett and wife Gabrielle, Alpharetta, GA, Anthony Bennett and wife Liz, Kingsport; five great-grandchildren, Bronwyn, Kensley and Braeden Bennett, Alpharetta, Evie Kate and Brendan Bennett, Kingsport.

The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, at 2:00 P.M., at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Hershel Bennett and Rev. Dexter Brummitt will officiate. Special music will be provided by Damaris Higgins, soloist.
