    Inas Sparks Higgins 74- was born May 15, 1929 in Flag Pond, TN. She was the daughter of the late Herman and Bethel Shelton Sparks. Inas was married to the late Jim Higgins. She was a beautiful lady that everyone who met her loved her. She was employed at Morrill Electric.

    She leaves behind to grieve her passing one daughter Deborah (Jerry) Tipton, one sister Helen Faye Edwards, four brothers; Dallas (Lorraine) Sparks, Clarence (Mary Lee) Sparks, Donald (Margie) Sparks and Edward (Brenda) Sparks.

    ERWIN – Helen "Faye" Edwards, age 75, 112 Edwards Road, Flag Pond, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a lengthy illness.

    Mrs. Edwards was a lifelong Unicoi County resident and a daughter of the late Herman and Bethel Shelton Sparks.

    She was retired from Morrill Electric following thirty-eight years of service.

    Mrs. Edwards was a fifty year member of Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church.

    She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Flag Pond Chapter #173.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Raymond Edwards, in 1994; a grandson, Raymond Wayne Edwards, in 1999; one brother, Dallas Sparks; and two sisters, Inas Higgins and Geneva English.

    She is survived by one son, Darrell Edwards and wife, Michelle, Flag Pond; two daughters, Beverly Silvers and husband Stanley, Flag Pond, Sandra Tipton and husband, Gary, Erwin; three brothers, Clarence Sparks and wife, Mary, Edward Sparks and wife, Brenda, all of Flag Pond, and Donald Sparks and wife, Margie, Jonesborough; seven grandchildren, Amanda Benton, Myra Tipton, Matthew Wilson, Sarah Miller, Megan Briggs, Caleb Broyles and Jess Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Chevelle and Dora Benton, Chandra Edwards, Micah and Gabriel Miller, Emma Briggs and Raymond Andrew Edwards; several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral service will be conducted Monday, November 9, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. from Jennie Moore Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Elmon Brown officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.

    Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

    FLAG POND - Edward W. “Ed” Sparks, age 76, of Flag Pond, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Flag Pond, Edward is a son of the late Herman and Bethel (Shelton) Sparks. He was a member of Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church and enjoyed football, NASCAR and baseball. Edward was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He served in South Korea from 1967 until 1969. In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by three sisters, Inas, Faye and Geneva, and two brothers, Dallas and Clarence.
    Edward W. “Ed” Sparks has left behind to cherish his memory: Wife of 55 years: Brenda Sparks; Daughter: Vicki Perry and husband, Shawn, of Blountville; Sons: Stuart Sparks and wife, Shelley, of Gray, Ben Sparks, of Flag Pond; Grandchildren: Adam Pritchard, Aaron Pritchard, Katie Sparks; Brother: Donald Sparks and wife, Margie; Several nieces and nephews; Many dear friends.
    The family would like to offer special thanks to their family and friends for their love and prayers during this difficult time.
    The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Edward W. “Ed” Sparks in a funeral service to be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church. Reverend Craig Shelton and Reverend George Rolling will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held in Higgins Chapel Cemetery, Flag Pond, TN on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, immediately following the funeral at Higgins Chapel Cemetery.

    JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Burlon Ralph Hardin, age 80, Jonesborough, passed away Monday December 23, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Mr. Hardin was a native of Unicoi and the son of the late Merville and Jenny Sparkes Hardin. He was also preceded in death by a brother Vernon Hardin.

    Mr. Hardin was a United States Army Veteran. He was also a charter member of the Jonesborough Rescue Squad.

    Mr. Hardin was a member of New Life Fellowship Community Church.

    Survivors include his wife Kay Hardin, children, Earl Hardin, Louise Gray, Keith Mayers; grandchildren and great grandchildren, sisters, Irene Hardin, Hazel Webb, Louise Webb, one brother, Gordon Hardin; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral service for Mr. Hardin will be Sunday December 29, 2019 7:00 PM at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the services.

    Graveside services will be held Monday December 30, 2019 10:00AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

    He is the son of the late Raymond and Helen Sparks Edwards. Darrel was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County. He attended Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church. He was employed at NN Ball and Roller.

    Darrel enjoyed working on old cars and raising roosters. He liked his dogs, Bo, Missy, and Goober.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Wayne Edwards on August 9, 1999.

    Darrel leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Michelle Riddle (Edwards), one son, Jess Edwards, Flag Pond, two daughters: Amanda Benton, Unicoi, Megan Edwards, Erwin; two sisters: Sandra Tipton (Gary), Erwin, Beverly Silvers (Stanley), Flag Pond; eight grandchildren: Andrew Edwards, Ezekiel Benton, Chevelle Benton, Dora Benton, Emma Briggs, Lilah Briggs, Alyas Cordero, Reyna Faye Cordero; two half-sisters: Brenda Sue and Karen.

    The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, March 13, 2020 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Lincoln Shelton will officiate at the 7:00 PM funeral service. Music will be provided by Jamie Tipton. Pallbearers will be Andrew Edwards, Cedric Benton, Travis Briggs, Ricky Joe Shelton, Ben Sparks, and Scott Higgins. Committal service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Edwards Family Cemetery, Edwards Branch Road.
