FALL BRANCH - Zeppie C. Moffitt, 94, of Fall Branch, passed away at the home of her daughter on Thursday, November 15, 2018, in Fall Branch.

She was a native of Newland, NC, and the daughter of the late Elbert Cole and Pettie Pritchard Cole. Zeppie was a homemaker and former employee of Glora Rayon in Johnson City, TN, making cloth for parachutes during World War II. She attended Fall Branch United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and cherished her family.

In addition to her parents, Zeppie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Moffitt and twelve brothers and sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Denton and husband, Daryl of Fall Branch; sons, Jerry Moffitt and wife, Deborah of Fall Branch, and Jack Moffitt and wife, Carolyn of Fall Branch; sisters, Ira Anders of Haw River, NC, and Elizabeth Daniels of Newland, NC; grandchildren, Steve Moffitt and wife Holly of Jonesborough, Buffy Sanders of Fall Branch, Jeff Moffitt and wife, Michelle of Fall Branch, Robbie Moffitt of Fall Branch, Lara Denton-Ayres and husband, Preston of Gray, and Ryan Denton of Manchester, TN; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their loving care of Zeppie this year. Caregivers include Patsy, Kelly, Melissa, and Carey Young. A special thank you goes to her ray of sunshine, Carrie Owens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Fall Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jean Dawson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Barry Lane officiating.

Burial will follow at Fall Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers.

Marie M. Cuthbertson, age 85, of Newland, died February 20, 2017 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC.
She was born November 11, 1931 in Newland, Avery County, NC.

She was a member of the Crossnore Baptist Church. She loved flower arranging, crafting, sewing, homemaking, her church and Sunday School class, reading the Bible, and volunteer work with little children. Marie had volunteered for the Sloop Memorial Hospital for many years and had served as a Teacher's Aide and Substitute Teacher.

Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Cuthbertson; two sisters Nellie Vines, Shirley Sines and two brothers Hoyle and Jimmie.

Marie is survived by her two daughters, Martha and husband Jesse Hardy of Pinnacle NC and stepdaughter Lisa Evers and husband John; stepgrandaughters Amanda and Isabella, Priscilla and Emmett Cox of Crumpler NC and stepgrandsons Robert and Jesse and three stepgrand children, Jacob, Raissia and Haylon. two sons, David and Linda Cuthbertson of Newland, Nathan and Alice Cuthbertson of Burgaw NC, and grandchildren Olivia and Ben; three sisters Velma and husband Jim Oxendine , Doris Taylor and husband Glen, Wilda Woodie, and one brother Bud Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services held at the Crossnore First Baptist Church with Rev. Lander Heafner and Dr. Phil Murdock officiating. Interment in the Cuthbertson Family Cemetery in Newland.

Zebulon (Bud) Johnson, age 85, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at The Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Center in Roan Mountain, Tenn.

He was born on March 20, 1933 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of Lillard Johnson and Augusta Cole Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; Sons: David (Bud) Johnson, Danny Johnson; Daughter: Mary Buchanan; Sisters: Marie Cuthbertson, Nellie Vines, and Shirley Sines.

Bud enjoyed Farming and listening to Country and Bluegrass Music.

Zebulon leaves behind to cherish his memory his: Daughters: Aneda (Randall Clark) Johnson of Crossnore, NC; Sherry (Mario Lopez) Ollis of Newland, NC; Sisters: Welda Woodie of Morganton, NC, Velma (Jim) Oxendine of Johnson City, Tenn., Doris (Glen) Taylor of Canton, Ohio; nine Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren; brother-in-law: E.C. Vines; son-in-law: Keith Buchanan and several nieces and nephews.

ELIZABETHTON - Lennie Michael “Mike” Cole, age 68, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord following a short illness on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mike was born in Avery County, North Carolina, the son of the late Lennie and Alma (Ollis) Cole. In addition to his parents, Mike was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annis Cole Hendrick and Linda Hartley; and an infant sister, Peggy Sue Cole.

Mike was 4th generation to work on ETWNC and served 25 years in the propane business as a service technician. He was above all else a family man, loving husband, father and papaw. Mike was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed camping, fishing, collecting antiques and attending his grandchildren’s ballgames.

Those left to cherish Mike’s memory include his loving wife of 49 years, Zeola (Blevins) Cole; his beloved daughters, Lori (Travis) Royston and Lisa (Matthew) Hayes all of Elizabethton; the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Kaysi Royston, Caleb Royston and Cash Royston; his loving dog, Smokie; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Brandon Young, Pastor Jimmy Holtsclaw and Pastor Steve Holtsclaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Monday or at the residence of a daughter, Lori Royston at other times.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Tipton, Pastor Steve Holtsclaw, Roger Gaddy, Paul Greene and Jackie Stout.
