    CLEO M. CALLAHAN Cleo M. Callahan, 80, 1550 Hwy 133, Shady Valley, passed away at her residence Sunday, May 14, 2000 She was a native of Johnson County, a daughter of the late Willis and Hattie Blevins McQueen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. "Pat" Callahan, who died in 1969, also by a sister, Walsa Eller. She was a former employee of Blue Ridge Shoe Company, president of the Shady Valley Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Shady Valley Church of Christ. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Callahan Honaker, Shady Valley, Tennessee; two brothers, Raleigh McQueen, Atlanta, Georgia; Reford McQueen, Shady Valley, Tennessee; two sisters, Lois Walker, Shady Valley, Tennessee; Okie Greer, Johnson City, Tennessee; two grandsons, Aaron Honaker and Joshua Honaker, both of the home; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. from the Shady Valley Church of Christ with James A. Sherman and Dr. Tom Peek officiating. Graveside services were conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. from the McQueen Cemetery, Shady Valley. Pallbearers were Tony Barry, David Walker, Randy McQueen, Richard Blevins, Randy Hutchinson, Doug Roark, Jack Blevins, Olan Bentley and Doug Walker. Percy-Hux Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Raleigh Howard McQueen, Sr., 82, Lt. Col., USAF Retired, died Monday, Jan 13, 2003 at his residence, under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Shady Valley, Tennessee, and was retired from the US Air Force with over 22 years of active duty service. He then went to work for Chatham County, retiring in 1978. He was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. Survivors: wife, Beverly Young McQueen, Savannah; son and daughter in law, Raleigh Howard McQueen, Jr., & Jean DeMatteo-McQueen of Baltimore, MD; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara M. Lariscy & Michael Lariscy of Savannah; two grandchildren, Erin Lariscy & Steven Lariscy of Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law, Reford & Cleota McQueen of Shady Valley, TN; two sisters and brother-in-law, Lois Walker of Shady Valley, TN; and Okle & Joe Greer of Johnson City, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p. m. Wednesday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home -Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services: 11:00 a. m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Burial: With full military honors in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

    SHADY VALLEY - Reford Elmo McQueen, age 96, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 06, 2019 at the Mountain City Care Center.

    He was born on August 16, 1922 in Shady Valley to the late Willis and Hattie Blevins McQueen. In addition to his parents, Reford was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cleota McQueen in 2015; sisters; Walsa Eller, Cleo Callahan and Okle Greer; and brother, Raleigh McQueen.

    Reford was a United States Army Veteran having honorably served during World War II. He was a Sargent in the 701st Tank Battalion, serving under General Bradley. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

    Like most men of his generation, Reford grew up farming. He loved to farm and be outdoors. At age 16, Reford served in CCC camps in Washington. He was also a former employee of TDOT. Before losing his vision, Reford loved to read and cut wood. He was a true family man who worked hard to provide for his family, who he loved spending time with.

    He was a member of Crandull Church of Christ.

    Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Randy McQueen and wife Marty; sister, Lois McQueen Walker; grandson, Ryan McQueen and wife Joanna; great grandchildren, Eliza Mae McQueen and Eleanor Claire McQueen; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Crandull Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Tracy Dugger officiating. Singing will be directed by Mr. Elwood Cretsinger. Graveside service and interment with military honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the McQueen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Walker, Randy McQueen, Jack Blevins, Ryan McQueen, Jimmie Walker and Dennis Honaker. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Eller and Virgil Cretsinger.
