Maurice Rolfe Love, Sr. On December 13th, the year 2018, Maurice Rolfe Love, age ninety, began his eternal life with our heavenly father.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 5 – 7 pm at West Village Christian Church.
The funeral will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Lloyd Johnson officiating.

Military honors will be presented by the Sons of the Revolution Honor Guard.

Family and friends will meet on Wednesday at 1 pm at Monte Vista Burial Park in Johnson City for a graveside service where military honors will be presented by the Boone Dam Honor Guard.

Maurice was born on July 15th, 1928, to Harriet Wilson and Earl Raymond Love in Erwin, Tennessee.

At the age of sixteen he joined the US Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War 11.

Maurice spent 45 days on a dangerous, bloody island called Iwo Jima where he experienced the worst that man had to offer.

He returned from war, and re-entered high school in Unicoi County where he excelled at football. A star receiver, he was offered a football scholarship to Milligan College where he excelled on the field and later transferred to East Tennessee State University where he graduated on June 1st, 1951. While at Milligan he met the love of his life Charlotte Ruth Young of Johnson City, Tennessee and they married in 1952.

Maurice was a pipe fitter by trade and worked in Ohio, Virginia, South Carolina and Washington DC, where his skills were in high demand.

He and his wife Ruth moved permanently to Oak Ridge Tennessee in 1963, where he worked for Union Carbide at the X-10 plant. Later, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority on nuclear power plants throughout the southeast before returning to work in Oak Ridge where he retired from the Y-12 plant in 1993.

Maurice cared for those in need, and helped start Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County (ADFAC).

He loved to exercise and was a founding member of the Oak Ridge Track Club.

He became an accomplished bowler and loved to spend time at the Oak Ridge Bowling Center.

He was a member of the Anderson County Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution where he enjoyed eating pizza and ice cream with other veterans and friends.

Flea markets and yard sales were his passion and it would be rare not to see him at the Oak Ridge Flea Market selling his tools.

Maurice was a born storyteller. His grandchildren spent a lot of their youth with their Papaw and have many good memories of him entertaining them with his original stories.

Maurice had many accomplishments, but his greatest was reading the Bible and living by its teachings.

He was an Elder at West Village Christian Church in Oak Ridge Tennessee, where he was an active member. Maurice was a kind, compassionate man who led by example. His life exemplified why he was part of the greatest generation.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth.

He leaves behind two sons, Marty and wife Lori Love, and Gary and wife Toni Love of Knoxville, TN. Three grandchildren, Lesly and husband Russell Johnson of Watkinsville, GA, Kelly and husband David Manning of Maryville, TN, and Michael and wife Elizabeth Love of Knoxville, TN. He has two great grandchildren, Lily and Levi Johnson, also of Watkinsville, GA. He also leaves behind a brother, Carlyle and wife Shirley Love of Erwin, TN.
