    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Herman Jarrett, age 91, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 1, 2019 from the Waters at Roan Highland Nursing Home in Roan Mountain.

    Herman was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late McKinnley and Rosa Brown Jarrett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Rickie Jarrett; six brothers, V.L. Jarrett, Joe Jarrett, Reece Jarrett, Norman Jarrett, Paul Jarrett and Junior Jarrett; and four sisters, Edith McKinney, Ruth Jarrett, Betty Jarrett and Shirley Jarrett.

    Herman was a family man and a people person, who loved the outdoors, loved food, loved his family and loved others. He was a United States Army veteran, having served his country with pride in World War, II. He was a farmer and attended Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Herman had worked in Cleveland, Ohio, Detroit, Michigan and worked at Cannon Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. He retired from Henredon Furniture in Spruce Pine, North Carolina and had also worked from Impact Furniture in North Carolina. Herman was a smart man, who enjoyed carpentry, gardening, farming and being outdoors, he was a hard worker.

    Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Joyce "Josephine" Jarrett, of the home; six children, Brenda K. Barnett (Britt) and Easter Laws (Lynn) both of Roan Mountain, Teresa Jarrett, of Marion, NC, Treka Ellis (David), of Charlotte, NC, Darlene McClain (Jerry), of Old Fort, NC and Sherlene Hughes (Donny), of Icard, NC; two sisters, Dorothy Roberts and Carrie Gardner, both of Roan Mountain; one brother, R.E. Jarrett (Hazel), of Roan Mountain; twelve grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Several nieces and nephews, also survive.

    A service to honor and celebrate the life of Herman Jarrett will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, February 4, 2019 in the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, with Rev. Randy English and Rev. Jerry McClain, officiating. Music will be provided by Amber Wills, Andrea McClain and Aimie Duncan. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the church, prior to the service on Monday.

    The graveside service will follow in the McKinney Jarrett Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be selected all veterans local and abroad.
