    James Elbert Johnson, age 76, of Creston, NC, passed away in his home on Saturday, October 13, 2018. James was born December 1, 1941 to the late Booker T. and Lura May Johnson. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters Lois Lipford and Margaret Glen, brothers Cecil Johnson, Robert Johnson, and his twin brother John Johnson, sister-in-law Deanna Potter Johnson, brothers-in-law Otis Forrester and Ralph Lipford, a niece Tammie Graybeal, nephews Allen Lipford and Adam Taylor, and his brother-in-law Clifford Treadway, who held a special place in his heart.

    James lived and farmed in Creston, NC for all his adult life, making a living as a tobacco and cattle farmer. When James was not working the farm, he enjoyed collecting knives and guns and fishing for trout in the cool mountain streams of North Carolina. James attended Corinth Baptist Church in Mountain City for many years.

    Those left to cherish James memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Magdalene Potter Johnson, nieces Jane, Penny, Delores, Michelle, Terri, Tarrina; nephews James, Kenny, Benny, Keith, Steve, Gary, William, Terry, Tony, Bobby, Greg, Michael, and Shane; sisters-in-law Mae Johnson, Betty Johnson, Sue Potter Treadway, and Marilyn Potter Graybeal; brother-in-law Lenny Glenn.

    Active Pallbearers will be nephews: Ricky Osborne, Shane Blevins, Michael Potter, Gary Johnson, Keith Johnson, and James Forrester. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Johnson, James Keller, Greg Graybeal, Freddy Forrester, and Lundy Taylor.

    Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2018, from 2pm to 3pm at the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel in Mountain City, Tennessee with a graveside service to follow, with Brother Billy Morefield to officiate, at the Johnson-Potter Cemetery, 2811 Roundabout Road, Creston, North Carolina.
