    Notes:

    Mary "Christine" Blevins, lovingly known as "Teenie," died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at the age of 93, at her residence in Johnson City, Tennessee.

    A native of Jonesborough, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Sammons Blevins.

    She was a member of the Locust Street Church of Christ for over 80 years. She taught Sunday School for many years and she is fondly remembered by many of her students.

    Christine was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Alpha Pi chapter, for over 60 years. Her membership in ESA gave her many "sisters" whose friendships resulted in many activities and trips to conventions.

    After graduating from Jonesborough High School, she attended Johnson City Business College for a year and then began what would be her career for over 60 years. She started her career with the Skipworth family in the moving business, then worked for office furniture stores for over 40 years, and lastly, she was a store manager for Budget Office Furniture until her retirement in 2003. The time she spent working in the public afforded her friendships and relationships with many people which she cherished.

    Christine's greatest accomplishment was being the "dad" to her sister's children when their father passed away at an early age. She loved these children as her own and moved her personal happiness to the background. Donald, Douglas, David, and Diann loved her in return as their "Dad" and later, their second mother. Their children and grandchildren loved her as "Teenie."

    She and her close friend, Stanley, enjoyed a friendship over 50 years, which included UT football games, traveling, movies, and eating out.

    In addition to her parents, Christine is preceded in death by: her brother, Harry Blevins; sisters, Bernice Broyles and Carolyn Blevins; nephew, Donald Broyles; great-nieces, Tammie Ruston and Cindy Grubbs; great-great-nephews, Odell Presley and Andrew Wilmot; and her special friend of many years, Stanley Yokum.

    Christine is survived by: her nephews, Douglas (Joyce) Broyles, David (Patricia) Broyles, and Russell (Meg) Blevins; nieces, Mary Grubbs, Diann Broyles, and Barbara Broyles; great-nephews, Darryl Broyles and Austin Blevins; great-nieces, Sandi Gary, Jennifer Tester, Scottye Broyles, Brooke Hardy, Sloane Presley, Amanda Blevins, and Alice Blevins; great-great-nephews, Hunter, Eli, Hogan, Kendric, Graylon, John, Shane, and Lane; and great-great-nieces, Payton, MaryGrace, Stella Grace, and Lauren.

    A service for Christine will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Oak Chapel, officiated by Dr. Barry Blackburn. A private family burial will take place at Monte Vista Memorial Park at a later date. Pallbearers will be great and great-great nieces and nephews and Daniel Remine.

    JENNINGS, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Doulas Irvin Broyles, 77, of Jennings will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Miguez Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with officiants Sonny Childs assisted by Jack Harris and Roy Platt.

    Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home with Military Honors.

    Visitation for Mr. Broyles will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. It will resume on Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. and continue until time of service.

    Douglas Irvin Broyles was the son of the late Irvin Lewis and Bernice Blevins Broyles. He was born October 24, 1941 in Kingsport, Tennessee. The family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee where Douglas attended and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1960.

    In 1962 Douglas graduated from Southeastern Christian Junior College in Winchester, KY, where he met Joyce Smith from Jennings, LA, his future wife. He returned to Johnson City to attend East Tennessee State University.

    He joined the USAF in 1964 and after medical training was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, LA. Soon thereafter he reunited with Joyce and married her July 26, 1965 in Jennings.

    Douglas was honorably discharged from the USAF in January 1968 as Staff Sergeant after spending time in Vietnam and Thailand and receiving several commendation medals. He enrolled at McNeese State University receiving a BS in Business Management, August 1969 concurrent with serving as an assistant minister at Jennings Church of Christ.

    The couple then moved to Greenville, TN where Douglas began work at the Magnavox Corporation as Industrial Relations Manager and then transferring to the Johnson City plant after three years. During those years he also served on the board of directors of Southeastern Christian College, President of the local Toastmasters Club, and was selected "Boss of the Year".

    In 1975 the couple adopted two children and then moved to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1978 to work for the Arabian American Oil Company and enjoy traveling around the world each year until 1984, when they moved to Jennings to assist Joyce's aging parents.

    Douglas worked with the Greenwich Terrace Church of Christ in Lake Charles from 1985 to 1987. In 1992 he was ordained into the ministry at his home church in Tennessee. From 1987 to 1997 he served as Administrative Minister of the Jennings Church of Christ, along with years of service as secretary of the Christian Youth Encampment in DeRidder, LA. He and his wife hosted nine exchange students during that time and fostered several other young people.

    In 1997 Douglas added another career as Funeral Director and chaplain for Miguez Funeral Home and worked for them until retiring in 2007. After that he served as a rotating minister with the Welsh Church of Christ until his last sermon in January of this year. He also served on the board of Caring Hands during the last few years. He was diagnosed with metastatic renal cell carcinoma in February of this year.

    Preceding Douglas in death were his parents and brother Donald Lewis Broyles.

    He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Joyce Smith Broyles, daughter Sandi and Lester Gary of Lake Arthur; son Darryl and Tina Broyles of Jennings; sister Diann Broyles of Johnson City, TN; brother David and Pat Broyles of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Barbara Broyles of Johnson City, TN; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
