ELIZABETHTON - Elwanda Vance Nave, age 90, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at her residence.

Elwanda was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late William Henry and Bessie Miller Vance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Nave, Jr.; one daughter, Brenda Sue Vandeventer; two brothers, Bobby Gene Vance and William R. Vance; and one sister, Virginia Vance.

Elwanda graduated from Cloudland High School and she retired from Walmart. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and playing Bingo.

Those left to cherish her memory include two step daughters, Lisa Hilbert and husband Joey and Unetta Woods and husband Steve, all of Elizabethton; one step son, Jerry Nave and wife Linda, of GA; two grandchildren, Jessica Tester and husband Christopher, of Elizabethton and Jeffery Woods, of Nashville; two step grandchildren, Christy Gilmore and husband Marcus and Jeremy Nave and Jamie; six great grandchildren, Evan Gilmore, Addison Gilmore, Hudson Gilmore, Corey Nave, Jordan Nave and Eva Tester; two brothers, Jimmy Vance and wife Mavis, of CA and Kelly Vance and wife Ann, of Elizabethton; one sister, Yvonne Birchfield and husband David, of CA; and two sisters-in-law, Gladys Vance, of Roan Mountain and Vickie Vance, of Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Elwanda Vance Nave will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Mark Street, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Kelly Vance, Steve Woods, Jeffery Woods and Joey Hilbert.

Elwanda married Claude Nave, Jr. about 1949 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Claude (son of Claude L. Nave, Sr. and Laura Frazier) was born on 25 Apr 1928 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 28 Mar 2011 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Highland Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. Bobby Gene Vance, age 73, 215 Shell Creek Rd., Roan Mountain died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William Henry and Bessie Miller Vance. Mr. Vance was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church and retired from the Baltimore City School System.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randy Gene Vance and one sister, Virginia Holtsclaw.
Survivors are his wife, Gladys Vance of the home, two daughters, Lisa Marie Perrigoy, Glen Burnie, MD, Tammy Jane Miller, Gwynn Oak, MD, three brothers, James R. Vance, CA, Kelly E. Vance, Roan Mountain, William (Roger) Vance, Kingsport, two sisters, Elwanda Nave, Elizabethton, Yvonne Birchfield, CA, and six grandchildren: Anthony (Scott) Miller, Elizabeth Miller, Zachary Perrigoy, Jessica Miller, Jacob Perrigoy, and Brandi Miller. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Vance will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 14 at the Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel with Mr. Gerald Holly, Minister officiating.
The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15 in Happy Valley Memorial Park.

The son of William Henry and Bessie M. Miller Vance. He was a former resident of Roan Mountain, TN, attended Cloudland High School and was a Vietnam Veteran 1966-1967, with the United States Army 53rd Signal Battalion. He received the following decorations, medals and citations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Marksman Badge M-14 Rifle, Vietnam Counter Offensive Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was so proud of his Army military service being passed on to his sons, and grandson. He was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 979 of Kingsport. He retired from Sprint Phone Company with 33 years of service as a PBX installer repair. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Gene Vance, and one sister, Virginia Holtzclaw. He is survived by his wife of 48 years; two sons; seven grandchildren; two sisters; two brothers; several special nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Crickett. Funeral services were held May 15, 2014 in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Honors were rendered by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 979 of Kingsport. Graveside service was held May 16, 2014 in the Happy Valley Memorial Park with military honors rendered by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Pallbearers were his sons and grandsons.
