David Boyle Jenkins was born up on Stony Creek in Carter County,Tennessee,the son of James Jenkins and Catherine Bolling.Before the Civil War, he worked as a hammerman in the local iron works.When the war broke out, he was the first man from Carter County to volunteer in the Union Army.He first served as a Sergeant in Company F of the 2nd Tenn. Vol. Inf. Regiment[USA] before accepting a 1st Lieutenant's commission in his brother William's cavalry unit,Company C,13th Reg. Tenn. Vol. Cavalry[USA].He later became company commander of Company C and fought through the entire duration of the war.Returning home, he was employed as a tax collector,he bought and sold real estate and built and operated a water turbine powered flour mill. He died in the house he built next to the flour mill down on Race Street. David married Levisa Evaline Stover about 1869 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Levisa (daughter of Solomon Hendrix Stover and Mary Ann Treadway) was born on 15 Mar 1851 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 15 May 1930 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Highland Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee. 2. | James Davidson Jenkins ![]() Notes: James was the oldest son of Capt. David Boyle Jenkins and Evaline Stover.He studied for the ministry and the law.He worked in Washington,D.C. as secretary to Congressman Carroll B. Reece of Tennessee. Later he was treasurer and general manager of the Elizabethton Insurance Agency, the first of its kind in Carter County.He worked in the law firm of Miller and Seiler,was director of the Watauga Power Company,the Whiting Mfg. Co.and served as Elizabethton City Treasurer.He served as a deacon for many years at the First Baptist Church and was a trustee of the Watauga Academy ,and was active in school promotion in Carter County.His biography appears in the book "Who''s Who in Tennessee"-A Biographical Reference Book of Notable Tennesseeans of Today. |

4. | Daniel Stover Jenkins ![]() Notes: Stover Jenkins was one of the organizers of the Elizabethton Insurance Agency,the first of its kind in the county.He was First Asst. Cashier in the newly established Carter County Bank in 1906.He served in the Carter County Court for many years and was Chairman of the court in1918.He also held the office of Justice of the Peace for many years and was aciive in the First Baptist Church.He was a delegate to the Watauga Baptist Association in 1906.He died in at the age of 78. 17. | Iris M. Jenkins ![]() Notes: ELIZABETHTON - Iris Marie Jenkins Ellis, 99, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County she was born April 11, 1923 to the late Stover & Jennie Pierce Jenkins. Iris was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She served in the United States Navy during World War II. She was retired as Office Manager at Russ Swanay Real Estate. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. Iris loved to work in her flower garden and yard. She attended Oak Street Baptist Church for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Ellis, her daughters Nancy Ellis, Barbara Ellis Melton, her sisters: Ora, Lorraine, Nina, Virginia and Annie and her brothers: David and K.P. Iris married Jack T. Ellis on 1 Nov 1947 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Jack (son of Robert T. Ellis and Nancy Katherine Shell) was born on 2 Feb 1919 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 12 Jul 1967 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.
