    John (Tha Shoe) Shoemake, age 68 of Butler, TN passed away, on September 27, 2018 in his home surrounded by family and friends. John was born in Mountain City, TN on September 15th, 1950 to the late Dick Shoemake and Hazel Crosswhite Shoemake. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Margaret Stalcup and niece Debbie Shoemaker. John was retired from the United States Army, he enjoyed 4-Wheeling, woodworking, fishing and hunting.

    John is survived by Cathy Cordell of the home; Daughters: Shannon Brown and husband Terry of Butler, TN. Amie Broomhall and husband Kyle of Knoxville, TN; Son: Richard Shoemake of Jefferson, NC; Sisters: Kat Thomas of Elizabethton, TN and Dorothy Shoemake of Mountain City, TN; Brother: Harold Shoemaker of Mountain City, TN; Mother in law: Dorothy Keller of Butler, TN; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. John had a beloved dog, Gypsy. Special Friends: Junior Campbell of Butler, TN. Ray Hammonds of Mountain City, TN

    The family would also like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You!" to all the staff of Amedisys Hospice for taking such good care of John. Funeral service for John R. Shoemake will be conducted Monday, October 1st, 2018 at 3:00 pm from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Steve Dugger to officiate. Family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service.

    Graveside service and burial will follow at the Butler Cemetery with military honors to be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Patrick Brown, Isaiah Brown, Terry Brown, Bo Thomas and Kyle Broomhall. Honorary Pallbearers: Junior Campbell, Ray Hammonds, and Timothy Brown.
