    James was the oldest son of Capt. David Boyle Jenkins and Evaline Stover.He studied for the ministry and the law.He worked in Washington,D.C. as secretary to Congressman Carroll B. Reece of Tennessee. Later he was treasurer and general manager of the Elizabethton Insurance Agency, the first of its kind in Carter County.He worked in the law firm of Miller and Seiler,was director of the Watauga Power Company,the Whiting Mfg. Co.and served as Elizabethton City Treasurer.He served as a deacon for many years at the First Baptist Church and was a trustee of the Watauga Academy ,and was active in school promotion in Carter County.His biography appears in the book "Who''s Who in Tennessee"-A Biographical Reference Book of Notable Tennesseeans of Today.
