Dorothy Henegar Andes, 72, 606 Florence Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Andes was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late George and Josie Braswell Henegar. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Joseph Andes Jr., and by five sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Andes was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. She was a retired employee of Empire Furniture, Johnson City, and a graduate of Happy Valley High School.
Survivors include four daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Grindstaff, Sandy and Guy Allen, Lisa Shell and Marcy Matherly, all of Elizabethton; two sons, Mike Andes and Brian Andes, both of Elizabethton; three step-

Germaine Braswell Greer, 91, Lawrenceville, Ga., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at Cambridge Health Center in Snellville, Ga.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Williams Braswell.
Germaine was a 1948 graduate of Happy Valley High School. She loved to quilt, cook and work in her garden. She was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Almond Greer, who passed away August 4, 2014, and by three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Andree Greer, Lawrenceville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Michael (Anna) Greer and Alysia (Blain) Jackson; and her great-grandchildren, Madison and Alexander and Cooper and Caroline; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 4, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with a VA Chaplain officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Kenneth Max Braswell, 63, formerly of Southside Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, July 15, 2001, in Greeneville, Tenn., following an extended illness.
A Carter County native, he was the son of the late James M. and Myrtle Hyder Braswell. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Braswell, one son, Kenneth Michael Braswell, two sisters, Frances Stout and Leona Elliott, and two brothers, Gene Braswell and Tyler Braswell.
He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Mr. Braswell was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a Sargent First Class and served two terms in the Korean Conflict and two terms in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Maxine Johnson, Wilmington, N.C., three grandchildren, Jimmie Michael Braswell, Wilmington, N.C., Teresa Johnson, Orlando, Fla., and Timothy Johnson, Wilmington, N.C. one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole Braswell, Wilmington, N.C., one brother and sister-in-law, James and Wilma Braswell, Elizabethton, two aunts, and several nieces and nephews.


BRASWELL -- Funeral services for Kenneth Max Braswell, 63, formerly of Southside Road, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, July 15, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with the Revs. Allen Simerly and D.C. Byrd officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001, in Hyder Cemetery. Full military honors to be accorded by an honor guard from Fort Campbell, Ky. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the funeral home chapel at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2001, to go in procession to the cemetery.

Frances "Diane" Smalling, 62, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Hillview Health Center in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Diane was a Carter County native and had lived her whole life on Smalling Road with her family. Diane had a special way of touching the lives of all who knew her. She never met a stranger and she never forgot a face. She loved her family, friends and especially her church family at Watauga Point United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. She was a member of the church choir, the Brenda Bishop Sunday School Class and was even voted Member of the Year in 1988. She proudly worked for 25 years at the Tennessee Vocational Workshop in Elizabethton. Diane loved bowling, painting, writing letters to friends and family, Westerns, and UT football and basketball. She also loved to go anywhere anyone would take her.
Ms. Smalling was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Braswell Smalling, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Jerry Dodson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Betty McInturff and husband Troy; her brother, Tom Smalling and wife Teresa; her nieces and nephews, April Kushmann, Andrea Bradford, Nathan McInturff, Erica Everley, Scott Smalling and Duane Smalling; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday, December 15, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Leann K F Crandell and Rev. Mike Berry. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 16, at Washington County Memory Gardens. ELIZABETHTON - Jerry Carl Weaver, 73, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, July 18,2021 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James G. & Ruby Braswell Weaver. Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Unaka High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He served as a Deputy in the Carter County Sheriff Department from 1970 to 1978. He served as Carter County Sessions Judge from 1978 until 1990. He was co-owner of Weavers Self Service Hardware. He was a Past Master and lifetime member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge # 238. In earlier years he was involved in the Shriners Organization. Jerry was a member and former choir director of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his brother & sister-in-law: Ted & Janet Weaver. His companion: Kathy Rhea and her daughter Stephanie Rhea. Two Nephews: Ryan (Abbey) Weaver and Trever (Rebekah) Weaver. Three Great Nieces: Madison (Seth) Gagne, Katlyn (Travis) Boggs and Ruby Claire Weaver. His Aunt: Pauline Buckles. Several cousins.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021 in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Music will be provided by Sue Bowers. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday will be: Ryan Weaver, Trever Weaver, Jamie Buckles, Randall Buckles, Doug Graham, Wayman Carrier, Dale Cordell and Dean Robinson. UNICOI - Helen “Paulette” Watts, 72, of Unicoi crossed over Jordan to sing with the angels Saturday April 1st, 2023, after passing away unexpectedly at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Deeston and Bernice Braswell. She retired from the Unicoi County School system after 20 plus years of service. Paulette was a lifelong, devout Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith. Her favorite activities included growing dazzling flowers of all kinds, shopping until her daughter couldn’t shop anymore at her favorite outlets in Boone, Pigeon Forge and Asheville, preparing amazing foods for her family to enjoy especially meatloaf, roast, deviled eggs, and her fresh garden corn, canning foods from the garden with her husband, singing religious and Christmas songs with her granddaughter especially in the car, going out to eat and taking road trips with her daughter and son in law because she never knew where she would end up, and most of all spending time with her family. In the 90’s Paulette was part of the Heavenly Echoes singing group made up of some of her best friends, Charlotte Clark and Carol McKinney. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandma.

Helen Paulette Watts leaves behind to cherish her memory; her husband, Daniel Steve Watts of Unicoi, her daughter, Stephanie Paulins and husband, Jeremy of Unicoi; granddaughter, Caitlin Paulins of Unicoi, great aunt Phyllis Kirkpatrick of Elizabethton; many cousins, brother and sister in-laws, nephews, nieces, a special friend since elementary school, Darlene Price, and her beloved cat Molly. The family will greatly miss her, and a void will be there forever. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Funeral services for Paulette will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Valley Funeral Home, 1045 N. Main Avenue with Rev, Dexter Brummitt officiating. Johnny Dale Elliott, age 67, of Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Johnny was born on October 31, 1951 to Frank Elliott Jr and Leona Braswell Elliott in Washington County, Tennessee. After graduating high school, he served in the Navy. He also worked for TVA and the United States Post Office. Upon retirement, Johnny had served 32 years in government services. Johnny enjoyed attending ball games at the local schools in East Tennessee.

Johnny and his wife, Barbara, are members of Zion Baptist Church and are attending services at First Freewill Baptist Church in Elizabethton.

In addition to his parents, Johnny is preceded in death by sister, Lynn Presnell; daughter, Becky; and grandson, Eric.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; daughter, Shae (and husband, Josh) Dunnavant; son, Jeremy (and wife, Mary) Elliott; grandchildren, Gabriel, Carter Rose, Melissa, Christina, Sadie, and Ben; brothers, Danny Elliott and Jackie Elliott; sister, Sherry Harmon; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Washington County Memory Gardens, under the direction of Pastor Nathan Jennings.

Ricky Eugene Braswell, 62, of 215 E. Mill Street, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness. Rick was born in Carter County to the late Thelma Cannon Braswell and Zebby Gene Braswell. After graduating from Elizabethton High School in 1979, he attended East Tennessee State University majoring in Engineering. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Marcia Montgomery Braswell, and had three children, Jennifer Braswell, Jason Braswell and Nathaniel “Blake” Braswell. Rick was a Journeyman Carpenter and Superintendent/Estimator for several large construction firms. He was of the Baptist faith. Rick enjoyed spending time with his grandson Noah and his family and NASCAR racing and golfing. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Oma Cannon and James and Myrtle Braswell; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and mother-in-law, Bonnie Montgomery. Those left to cherish his memory include wife, Marcia Braswell; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Jason and Blake; grandson, Noah Braswell; sisters, Teresa Cochran, Tina Wyatt, and sister and family Lisa, Ronny and Taylor Byars; sister-in-law, Tami Peters and family, John, Haley, Laurel and River; as well as several special cousins, aunts, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Rick’s residence on Sunday, May 7, from 2 until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the family to help with expenses.
