    Velma Lee Clemons, 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from Ivy Hall Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Velma was born in Carter County to the late Coy and Nora Guy Greene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Clemons, in 1999; a son, Wayne Edgar Clemons; six sisters; and two brothers.
    Velma was well known for her baby quilts, embroidery work and her work in the church. She was a homemaker and a member of Charity Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was a devoted Christian and also sang alto with several quartets.
    Those left to cherish her memory include one son and two daughters-in-law, Vernon Ray Clemons and wife Juanita and Pearl Clemons, all of Johnson City; two grandsons, A.J. Clemons of Johnson City, Tenn., and Wayne Clemons and wife Jessica of Bowling Green, Ky.; one granddaughter, Kathy Ann Stevens and husband Charles of Johnson City; six great-grandchildren, T.J. Clemons of Johnson City, Savannah Clemons and Brooklynn Clemons, both of Greeneville, Tenn., Josh Clemons of Bowling Green, Ky., Sarah Clemons of Bowling Green, Ky., and Charlotte Stevens of Johnson City; and one great-great-grandson, Timothy Clemons of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    A service to celebrate the life of Velma Lee Clemons will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Gary Pate and Pastor Richard Blevins officiating. Music will be provided by Ronnie Dean Blevins. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the home of her niece and her husband, Louise and Dennis Stevens, 115 Headrick Lane, Elizabethton (Velma's childhood home.) The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be A.J. Clemons, T.J. Clemons, Charles Stevens, Josh Clemons, Matthew Smith, Josh Potter, Eric Creasey and Doug Creasey. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Harrison, Carl Roberson and Rev. Jerry Emmertt.
