Mr. Dean L. Stout, age 78, of 1186 Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Dean was born on February 7, 1935, in Johnson County, Tennessee, to the late D.L. Snyder and Virginia Stout Coffey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Dale Stout.
Dean was a member of Vaught's Gap Baptist Church and regularly attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church also. Dean enjoyed working with his backhoe and farming, especially working with his cattle.
Dean was a current Johnson County Commissioner, a former Circuit Court clerk for eight years and a United States Marine Corps Veteran.
He was a former member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 F&AM in Butler, Tennessee, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include: son, Michael L. and wife, Vicki A. Stout, of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters, Nancy Jacobs and husband, Alton, Mountain City, Tennessee, and Linda Arnold and husband, Terry, of Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother, Tommy Coffey and wife, Linda, of Mountain City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Carli Stanley and husband, Justin, Hampton, Tennessee, and Calli Rae Smith, Mountain City, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Dean will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Norman and Rev. Chuck Morefield to officiate. Music will be under the direction of Joe Simcox.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service hour. Pallbearers will be Roby Dunn, Dwayne Arney, Bill Shepperd, Jerry Stanley, Scott Matheson, Joe Stanley, Jerry Grindstaff and Alton Jacobs. Honorary pallbearers will be Commissioners of Johnson County, Bill Wilson, Bill Burcheaus, Freddey Phipps, Jay Mink, Ernest Tester, Bill Michaels, Eddie Forbes and Terry Shull. Military graveside services will be conducted from the Stout Family Cemetery following the funeral, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
