SHADY VALLEY — Osie Shepherd, age 99, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mountain City, Tennessee.
She was a life long resident of Shady Valley, Tennessee and was the daughter of the late James and Altha Gentry. She was a member of Crandull Church of Christ for over 70 years and was a member of the Shady Valley Senior Citizens Center and Home Demonstration Club in Shady Valley, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Shepherd; two sons, Alton Shepherd and Gerald Shepherd; two sons-in-law, Opie Long and Lee Perry; two grandsons, three brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by one son, Lonnie Shepherd and his wife, Trula, of Mountain City, Tennessee; three daughters, Wanda Long of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Velma Perry of Lake City, Florida, and Colleen McCarthy and her husband, Ed, of Reading, California; a daughter-in-law, Helen Shepherd of Shady Valley, Tennessee; several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus, Virginia with Mr. Jim Hutchinson, minister officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia. Pallbearers will be selected from the grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Whitlock and the staff of Mountain City Care and Rehabilitation Center especially including Donna Gentry and Mickey Woods.
