    HAMPTON '97 Mr. Omar Frank Simerly, 97, of Hampton, TN, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.

    A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John and Ida Hyder Simerly. Mr. Simerly was retired as co-owner and operator of the Simerly Creek Bus Line. He was of the non-denominational faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vernishia Street Simerly; a daughter, Barbara Miller; and ten brothers and sisters.

    Survivors include a son, Eston Simerly and his wife, Judy, Bluff City, TN; two daughters, Shirley Whitehead and her husband, Ed, Johnson City, and Wanda Brummett, Unicoi; grandsons, Eric Simerly and his wife, Angela, Gray, and Jackson Simerly, Atlanta, GA; great-grandson, Jackson Anthony Simerly; and great-granddaughter, Kierstyn Tailyr Simerly. Several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive as well as special friends, Peggy Baldwin, Jeff Baldwin, Joy Baldwin Humphreys, Phyllis Marcus and Bettina Lamoure.

    Funeral service for Mr. Omar Frank Simerly will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2010, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Brooks officiating.

    The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Noon until 1:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the funeral service.

    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2010, following the funeral service in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Eric Simerly, Jackson Simerly, G.O. Dorton, Mark McCord, Wayne Pullon and Jeff Williams. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #49.

    Omar married Nettie Cozie Berry on 22 Jul 1932 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Nettie (daughter of John Wesley Berry and Anna Clark) was born on 19 Aug 1913 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 5 May 2013 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    UNICOI - Wanda Jay Brummett, age 79, Unicoi, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2018 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

    She was a Carter County native before moving to Unicoi County in 1954. Wanda is a daughter of the late Omar Simerly and Nettie Berry Cornett.

    She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Wanda loved her family dearly and she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Everyone that knew her, called her grandmother. Wanda enjoyed quilting and made quilts for her family. She was the best cook in the world and taught all her children to cook.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Brummett on July 20, 1998; step-father, Lawrence Cornett; one sister, Barbara Miller.

    Wanda leaves behind to cherish her memory, five sons: Billy Joe Brummett (Kathy), Shevlin, MN, Jeff Brummett (Reva), Jimmy Brummett (Shelly), Brian Brummett, all of Unicoi, Bobby Brummett (Constance), Knoxville; one daughter, Teresa Lane (Clifford Barnes), Erwin; one sister, Shirley Whitehead (Ed), Johnson City; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Dexter Brummett and Reverend Bernie Jones will officiate at the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Committal will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday in the Cornett-Tolley Cemetery.

    Wanda married Bill Brummett on 14 Aug 1954 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee. Bill (son of Samuel N. Brummett and Nancy Tolley) was born on 8 Feb 1935 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee; died on 20 Jul 1998 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Tolley Cemetery, , Carter County, Tennessee.
