Mr. Guinn was a native and lifelong resident of Unicoi County and the son of the late John Wesley and Zipporah Taylor Guinn.

He was employed with the Erwin Post Office as a carrier and clerk before retiring in 1969, due to ill health, after 30 years of service.

Mr. Guinn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Erwin. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Army Medical Corps. He was a member of the Erwin Centennial Lodge #491 F & AM and also was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Orville and Theodore Guinn and by sister, Iva Guinn Foster.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel C. Guinn: four sisters Gertha Edwards, Lena Hensley, Oneda Martin and Jessie Chandler.

FLAG POND - James Howard "Jim" Guinn, age 95, Flag Pond, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at The Waters of Johnson City. He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Blain and Zora Tilson Guinn.

Mr. Guinn was a member of Jennie Moore Presbyterian Church. He was a United States Army Veteran having served his country honorably during WWII. Mr. Guinn was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon and Victory Medal.

He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Mr. Guinn retired from teaching for the Unicoi County School System after thirty-seven years of service.

He was a fifty year member of Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM. Mr. Guinn was an avid outdoors-man. He loved to hunt, camp, fish and cook.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Lee Guinn on December 23, 2005; one son, Larry Guinn; one brother, Dwight L. Guinn; five sisters: Dean Treadway, Dot Corn, Eva Martin, Kathleen Hoyle and Rita Hoyle.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons: James Marvin Guinn (Judith), Muscle Shoals, AL, Roger Dale Guinn, Flag Pond and Gary Guinn, Erwin; one sister, Elouise Shell, Erwin; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate the 7:00 P.M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Committal will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Corn, Eddie Corn, Teddy Hoyle, David Hoyle, Jerry Hoyle and Doug Piercy.

Kathleen Hoyle, age 85, 107 Cut-Off, Greeneville, TN, formerly of Flag Pond, passed away at the home of her daughter in Woodstock, Georgia.

Mrs. Hoyle was born December 28, 1925 in Unicoi County. She was a daughter of the late Blaine Arthur and Zora Tilson Guinn. Mrs. Hoyle retired in 1984 as an operator for Morrill Motors.
She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Hoyle was a loving and devoted wife, mom, ma-maw, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hartsell Hoyle in 2003; three sisters: Dean Treadway, Rita Hoyle, and Dot Corn; one brother, Dwight Guinn, who was killed during World War II.

Mary married Walter Hartsell Hoyle about 1945 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee. Walter (son of William Thomas Hoyle and Lennie B. ERWIN - Elouise Guinn Shell, age 91, Erwin, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the Center on Aging and Health. She is a daughter of the late Blaine and Zora Tilson Guinn.

Elouise was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County. She was a hairdresser at Kathrine’s and Elite Beauty Shops for over sixty years. Elouise was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping and cooking for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester C. Shell on December 14, 2009; two brothers: Dwight Guinn and James Howard Guinn; five sisters: Eva Martin, Kathleen Hoyle, Rita Hoyle, Dean Treadway, and Dot Corn.

Elouise leaves behind to cherish her memory, several nieces and nephews: numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, August 19, 2021, in the Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Bill Ponder will officiate. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

ERWIN — Mrs. Rita Hoyle, Age 81, Erwin, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit following a lengthy illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Blaine and Zora Tilson Guinn. Mrs. Hoyle was a retired employee of Morrill Motors, where she had worked for over twenty years. She had also worked at Southern Pottery as a painter. Mrs. Hoyle was a member of the Clear Branch Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and made a lot of her own clothes.

Other than her parents, Mrs. Hoyle was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Hoyle, in 1997; a brother, Dwight Guinn; sister, Dean Treadway; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Hartsell Hoyle, Lester Shell and Edna Lee Guinn.

Survivors include: Her son and daughter-in-law, Teddy and Cynthia Hoyle, Erwin; Sisters, Eva Martin, Erwin, Kathleen Hoyle, Greene County, Eloise Shell, Erwin, Dorothea "Dot" Corn and husband, Harry, Erwin; Brother, Jim Howard Guinn, Erwin; Grandchildren, Melissa Jo Huskins and husband, Jerad, Erwin, Caleb Andrew Hoyle, Erwin; Great grandson, Lincoln Slade Huskins; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service for Mrs. Hoyle will be held at 8:00 P.M. Saturday, May 15, 2010, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate. Dorothea "Dot" Corn, age 76, of 202 Bowman Road, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, August 13, 2011, at the Center on Aging and Health.

She was born October 20, 1934, in Unicoi County. Mrs. Corn was the daughter of the late Arthur Blaine and Zora Tilson Guinn.

Mrs. Corn was retired from Morrill Motors after twenty six and a half years of service. She was a longtime member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Corn was a loving and devoted wife, mom, and mamaw.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Guinn; two sisters, Dean Treadway and Rita Hoyle.

Mrs. Corn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Harry Corn; two sons, Edward A. "Eddie" Corn and wife, Nina, and Keith Corn, all of Erwin; three grandsons, Jason Corn, Ryan Corn and Keaton Corn, all of Erwin; one brother, James H. Guinn, Flag Pond; three sisters, Eva Martin, Erwin, Kathleen Hoyle, Greeneville, and Elouise Shell, of Erwin; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Monday, August 15, 2011, in the chapel of Robert Ledford Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Ponder officiating. Special piano music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Roger Ambrose will provide special solo selections.

Active pallbearers will be Anthony Piercy, Doug Piercy, Roger Guinn, Jerry Hoyle, Teddy Hoyle and Jimmy Hoyle.

UNICOI - Valdine Guinn Wadsworth, age 93, Unicoi, went to her heavenly home on Friday, March 25, 2022. She is a daughter of the late George and Minta Foster Guinn. Valdine grew up in Erwin but lived most of her life in North Redington Beach, Florida. Valdine moved to Unicoi in 2004 to live with her sister, Naomi.
She was raised in First Baptist Church of Erwin. Valdine was a beautiful example of Christ’s love. She was a lady full of grace, beauty, love, generosity, integrity and great character.
Valdine was an excellent cook and she taught Home Economics for many years at Largo Middle School located in Largo, Florida. She and her husband Bill were very active members in their North Redington Beach Community. Bill served as the Mayor and Valdine helped preserve the Sea Turtles. She was the Wedding Director and Membership Chair for The Church by The Sea.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wadsworth; three brothers: Kyle, Kermit and George Guinn; two sisters: Nila Pugh and Naomi McInturff; niece, Lisa McInturff; great nephews: Shepherd McInturff and Samuel Rice.

UNICOI - Mary Naomi "Moma Crackerbee" Guinn McInturff, age 87, Unicoi passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.

She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late George and Minta Foster Guinn.

Naomi was owner and operator of Crackerbees in Unicoi for many, many years. She loved running her business where she always enjoyed talking with friends, and making new friends as well. Naomi was known to most of her customers as Moma Crackerbee.

She was a member of Unicoi United Methodist Church where she was actively involved for more than fifty years. Over those years, Naomi served as Youth Leader, Choir Director, Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher. She loved her church and her church family, and they loved her as well.

Naomi was always very involved in her community and she loved her community. She was known for her generous, giving heart. Naomi was a wonderful cook and well known for her absolutely delicious chocolate pies and banana pudding.

She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Naomi grew beautiful flowers and enjoyed working in her flower garden.

In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-seven years, Kenneth McInturff; three brothers: George, John and Kyle Guinn; one sister, Nila Pugh; grandson, Shepherd McInturff; great grandson, Samuel Rice and daughter-in-law, Lisa McInturff.

She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, two sons: Terry Kent McInturff, Kevin McInturff and wife, Susan; one daughter, Connie Rice and husband, Mike; one sister, Valdine Wadsworth, all of Unicoi; eight grandchildren: Aaron McInturff, Allon McInturff, Robert Rice and wife, Tiffany, Matthew Rice and wife, Jamie, Mary Glauer and husband, Seth, Jenny Rice and husband, Eric, Andrew McInturff; eleven great grandchildren: Ethan McInturff, Kaleigh and Alysa Wilson, Emily Rice, Lela Rice, Beau Rice, Mason & Abby Hemphill, Nila Rice, Henry Rice and soon to be born, Ira Jake Glauer; brother-in-law: Chester McInturff; sisters-in-law: Maureen Guinn and Hazel Berry; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Shepherd's Glen which is located just below Swingle Cemetery. Reverend Todd Adams and Reverend Mike Pinner will officiate. Pallbearers will be Aaron McInturff, Allon McInturff, Ethan McInturff, Robert Rice, Matthew Rice, Andrew McInturff, Seth Glauer, Matthew Shepard and Eric Rice. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Shepherd's Glen by 1:45 P.M. The family request those who will be attending to dress casually and please wear blue or yellow, which were Naomi's favorite colors.
