She was a member of the Hampton Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Pearce?s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Hampton.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank Brown, A Son, Elmer Brown, seven sisters and two brothers: Lois Beam, Maxine Matherly, Creola Stanley, Pink Hicheck, Edith Arnold, Lillie ?Till? Lyons, Gladys McKinney, Ernest McKinney and Roy McKinney.

    Survivors include Three Sons & Daughters-in-Law: Don & Dottie Brown, Eustis, Fla., Bill & Brenda Brown and Larry Brown of Elizabethton; Three Daughters & Sons-in-Law: Margaret & Buddy Jones, Norma Jean & Stuart Dyer and Creola & Shelby Miller all of Elizabethton; 11 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; Two Sisters & Their Husbands: Agnes & T.J. Walker Elizabethton and Willie & Dick Baughman, Johnson City; Several Nieces & Nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jonas Revis officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and other family members.

    Lillie "Till" McKinney Lyons, 84, 112 Lyons Rd., Hampton, died Thursday, January 22, 2004 in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
    A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Will and Stella Shell McKinney.
    She was a homemaker.
    Mrs. Lyons was also a foster parent for several years.
    Mrs. Lyons was a member of Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Lyons; six sisters, Gladys McKinney, Edith Stringer, Lois Beam, Lorene Hajicek, Maxine Matherly and Creola Stanley; two brothers, Ernest and Roy McKinney, and an infant son, Robert.
    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Durl and Helen Hyatt, Hampton; a daughter, Joan Bravo, Hampton; a special foster daughter and her husband, Pearl and Wayne Clemons, Elizabethton; three sisters, Missouri Brown, Agnes Walker and Willie Baughman, all of Elizabethton; grandsons, John Hyatt, Jr., Mark Hyatt, Matthew Hyatt and Wayne Clemons, Jr.; granddaughters, Marlo Carden and Kathy Clemons; great grandchildren, Kara, Morgan, Logan, Blake, Josh, Whitney, Megan, Lauren, Bethany, Josh and Sarah, and her special friends, Betty Andrews and Terry Lyons. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Waycaster and Rev. Bob Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Lyons Family Cemetery. Jennifer Crabtree will provide the music. Active pallbearers will be John Hyatt, Jr., Mark Hyatt, Matthew Hyatt, Junior Stanley, Sammy Matherly, Rick Baughman, Danny Walker, Tommy Walker and Larry Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Ray Beam, Glen Beam, Don Brown, Bill Brown, Wayne Clemons, Wayne Clemons, Jr., Richard Baughman and T.J. Walker.

    Mrs. Creola McKinney Stanley, 79, 1739 West G. Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, October 29, 2001, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
    Mrs. Stanley was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Will and Shelia Shell McKinney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gentry E. Stanley, who died January 28 1992, five sisters, Maxine Matherly, Lorene "Pink" Hajicek, Lois Beam, Edith Arnold and Gladys McKinney, and two brothers, Ernest McKinney and Roy McKinney.
    Mrs. Stanley was the owner of Stanley Trailer Park. She was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.
    Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Junior and Brenda Stanley, 1731 West G. Street, Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alan McDowell, 228 Heather Lane, Johnson City; four sisters, Zude Brown, Route 4, Elizabethton, Lillie Lyons, Route 1, Hampton, Agnes Walker, 404 South Roan Street, Elizabethton, and Willie Baughman, Clay Little Road, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Timothy Hollifield, Chris Hollifield, Kim Stanley, Sonya Stanley and Heather Stanley; three stepgrandchildren, Jon McDowell, Cheri Todd and Rick Garrison; one adopted granddaughter, Lutfiya Saleh, and one granddaughter-in-law, Monica Hollifield; and a special nephew and family, Sammy, Sally and April Matherly, 1741 West G. Street, Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews and two special friends, Peggy Thomas and Betty Taylor, also survive.
    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

    STANLEY -- Funeral services for Mrs. Creola McKinney Stanley, 79, 1739 West G. Street, Elizabethton, who died Monday, October 29, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, at Pleasant Beach Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be provided by Tawana Holland, Monica Hollifield and the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church Choir. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday and also at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, will be Sammy Matherly, Donald Brown, Bill Brown, Rick Baughman, Dic Baughman, Thomas Walker, Kent Smith, Jack McKinney, Glen Beam, Dale Ball and Hobart Stanley. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Tolley, Lynn Tipton, Kenny Simerly, T.J. Walker, neighbors, friends and members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Maxine McKinney Matherly, 76, 119 Beryl Fletcher Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Larry Williams, after an extended illness.

    Mrs. Matherly was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William M. and Stella Shell McKinney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sam Matherly, February 10, 1997, and by two brothers and four sisters.

    Mrs. Matherly operated the Tastee-Freez and Maxine's Sycamore Drive-In for a number of years until her retirement. She was of the Baptist Faith.

    Survivors include one other daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Maynard Campbell, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Sally Matherly, Elizabethton; five sisters, Lilly Lyons, Hampton, Missouri Brown, Creola Stanley, Agnes Walker and Willie Jean Baughman, all of Elizabethton; and six grandchildren, April Matherly, Raymond Williams and his wife, Rebecca, Brian Williams, Carter Campbell, Tina Reece and her husband, Tim, and Josh Campbell. Five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

    Maxine married Sam C. Matherly about 1948. Sam (son of William Thomas Matherly and Delia Sams) was born on 20 Jan 1926 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; died on 10 Feb 1997; was buried in Mountain Home National Cemetery, , Washington County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    JOHNSON CITY - Glen Dale Beam, 78, Johnson City passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 in the Ballad Hospice House of Bristol. He was a native of Carter County but had lived in Washington County most of his life. Glen was a son of the late Elzie and Lois McKinney Beam. He worked as a Truck Driver for many years. Glen was a veteran having served his country in the U.S. Marines. He attended East Watauga Avenue Baptist Church.

    Glen is survived by a large loving family and friends. Special thanks to his sister and caregiver, Emma Dean Hale and to Mike and Peggy Dickenson for the loving care and support they provided.

    Graveside services for Glen will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 29, 2023 in McCarty Cemetery, intersection of McCarty Church Road and 11-E. Rev. Mike Dickenson will officiate and Rev. Jim Chatman will provide special music. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

    Donald B. Brown, 89, of Eustis, Fla., passed away December 8, 2018.
    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Frank and Missouri "Zude" McKinney Brown.
    Don was a member of Bay Street Baptist Church. He was a former member and deacon of Zion Baptist Church when Reverend Clifford Smith was Pastor, before moving to Florida.
    Don joined the Navy as a young man and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Since moving to Florida, Don joined a camping missions group called Tools for Christ. He helped build churches all over the Eastern United States. Don loved the Lord and felt this was his mission in life. He never met a stranger. He was an active Gideon.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Brown.
    Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dottie Gayheart, and four sons, Chris of Redmond, Wash., Rick, Tim and Greg of Florida. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as seven nieces and nephews also survive. He leaves two brothers, Bill and Larry Brown of Elizabethton, and three sisters, Margaret Jones, Norma Dyer and Creola Miller of Elizabethton.
    A memorial service was held at the Pine Lakes Baptist Church which he helped build.
