    Jessie V. Lingerfelt White CHUCKEY, Tenn. ? Jessie V. Lingerfelt White, 84, of the Horse Creek Community in Chuckey, Tenn., died at home on April 15, 2005. She was preceded in death by her first husband, the Rev. Oral Lingerfelt, an elder in the United Methodist Church in the Johnson City District of the Holston Conference. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Alvin White, formerly of Unicoi, Tenn. Mrs. White was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she was very active until her health would not permit any major involvement. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and former member of the Horse Creek Ruritan Club. She is survived by a very loving and caring family, who all say their love and care of other people was instilled in them as children by their mother. Surviving children and spouses are shown as complete families. Daughter, Elizabeth Richards of Valdosta and children; son, Frank and Dana Richards and grandchildren Noah and Will; daughter, Betsy and Frank McTier and grandchildren Benjamin and Lauren, all of Valdosta. Burial will be held in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery at 10 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2005. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Walt Isley and the Rev. Jamie Ferguson.     SEYMOUR, TN - Chester (Gene) McInturff, 89, of Seymour passed away on his birthday, Wednesday, March 10, 2021. He was born and raised in Unicoi, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patsy. They lived in Athens and Bristol before settling in Seymour, TN in 1979. Chester was an active member at Trinity United Methodist Church, Addilynn United Methodist Church, Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, and Seymour United Methodist Church. He enjoyed genealogy and traveling with friends and family. He worked for Mayfield's, Flav-O-Rich, Klenzade, and Ecolab as a consultant to the food industry. Chester was an army veteran who served during the Korean War. Chester was also preceded in death by parents, Shep and Lelia McInturff; brothers, Gaither, Kenneth, and Floyd McInturff; and sisters, Mabel Jones Renfro, Gertha Street, Virgie Ingram, Florence Seward, Jessie Lingerfelt White, Hazel Berry, and Eva Davis.     UNICOI - Jack Arnold Jones, 93, Unicoi, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short illness at Governor's Bend Retirement and Assisted Living in Erwin, TN, Saturday morning, June 11, 2022. Mr. Jones was born on September 23, 1928, in Unicoi, TN to the late Mack Jones and Mabel McInturff Jones Renfro. Mr. Jones was a graduate of Unicoi Co. High School and lived in Johnson City, TN before returning to Unicoi in 1991 to enjoy retirement on the golf course at Buffalo Valley. He retired as Vice President in charge of sales after 45 years of service to Summers Hardware. Mr. Jones proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from November 1950 to October 1956.

    Jack was a faithful member of Unicoi United Methodist Church. Along with being an avid golfer, he had a passion for the University of Tennessee football and basketball programs. He also loved everything NASCAR. He traveled with Issy to many countries around the globe where they enjoyed all the different culture and beauty this world has to offer.

    In addition to his parents Jack was preceded in death by one sister, Shelby Leedy and husband Sam Leedy; one brother, Johnny Jones and stepfather, Richard Renfro.

    Those left to cherish the memory of Mr. Jones are his beautiful loving wife of 67 years, Isabella Crowder Jones, his son Scott Jones and longtime partner Wendy Fox; sister-in-law Kathy Jones; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    The family will receive friends in the main sanctuary at Unicoi United Methodist Church, Thursday June 16, 2022, from 5pm to 7pm with services to follow. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 17, 2022, at 11am. Those who wish to join the family are asked to meet at Shepherd Glenn, 220 Swingle Rd., Unicoi, TN at 10:50am after which Mr. Jones will be laid to rest in Swingle Cemetery. Officiating the services will be Rev. Mike Pinner and Rev. Garland James.     UNICOI - Nancy Katherine Seward Ritchie, age 82, Unicoi, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Saturday, March 11, 2023. She was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on June 8, 1940, to the late Frank and Florence McInturff Seward. She grew up in Unicoi, Tennessee where she lived the rest of her life.

    Nancy graduated from Unicoi County High School in 1958. She also attended ETSU. Nancy married George Ritchie on June 15, 1963. She was a life-time member of Unicoi United Methodist Church and the New Beginning Sunday School Class.

    Nancy retired from Unicoi County School System where she worked as a Bookkeeper at UCHS for thirty-one years. She enjoyed visiting the sick in nursing homes and hospitals. Nancy attended all her grandson’s sporting events throughout the years. She was affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandsons.

    In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, George Arliss Ritchie on April 27, 2021, and her daughter, Sharon Kay Slagle on January 05, 2022.

    Nancy leaves behind to cherish many wonderfully sweet memories, her daughter, Ronda Ritchie Simpson and husband, Rob of Erwin; son-in-law, Donnie Slagle of Erwin; her three grandsons, who were the light of her life: Connor Simpson and his fiancé, Sydney Smith, Clay Simpson and Lucas Slagle; brother, Randall Seward and wife, Gail of Pine Mountain, GA; sister-in-law, Joann Ritchie; several very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

    The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Governor’s Bend, Christian Care Center of Unicoi County and Amedysis Hospice. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten by us.

    Mrs. Ritchie’s family will receive friends on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at the Unicoi United Methodist Church New Life Center from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Dr. Mike Pinner will officiate the 3:00 p.m. funeral service.     VALDOSTA, GA - Leila Elizabeth “Liz” Lingerfelt Richards, 75, of Valdosta, GA, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. She was born in Johnson City, TN on October 2, 1946, to Rev. Oral Lingerfelt and his wife, the former Jessie McInturff.
    Liz was a member of First Christian Church of Valdosta where she served as youth leader; she spent many years visiting and serving the elderly and shut-ins in their congregation. After moving to Valdosta in 1984, Liz worked with disabled children in Valdosta City Schools as a paraprofessional. She was a member of the Azalea City Women’s Club and worked in their clown ministry for children. She was an integral part of the establishment of LAMP and spent many years running their food pantry and clothes closet. Liz spent more than two decades working for Walmart and Sam’s Club before retiring to care for her sister in Tennessee. Liz spent her life in the service of others, always representing the hands and feet of Christ.
    “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35
    Liz is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Franklin Richards II (Dana) of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law Betsy McTier (Frank) of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Noah Richards, William Richards, Benjamin McTier, and Lauren McTier, all of Valdosta; her brothers and sister-in-law, Edward Lingerfelt (Carol) of Jonesboro, TN, and Wayne Lingerfelt of Church Hill, TN; brother-in-law John Tilson of Church Hill, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Barbara Tilson, and nephew Geoffrey Tilson.
    Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, January 10th, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta with Rev. Ron Nordan officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service in Valdosta from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday. The service will be streamed on Monday on the Tribute wall of Liz’s obituary page on www.mclanecares.com.
    Her committal will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Chuckey, TN.

    ERWIN - Sharon Kay Ritchie Slagle, age 50, Erwin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was born on December 25, 1971, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Sharon is a daughter of Nancy Seward Ritchie and the late George Arliss Ritchie.
    She was a proud member of the Unicoi County Lady Devil’s Basketball Team from 1986 until her graduation in 1990. Sharon earned her BS Degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Development from East Tennessee State University. She began her teaching career at Rock Creek Elementary School where she taught first grade for several years. Then, Sharon started teaching Pre-K at the Community Learning Center with Unicoi County School System. Later, Sharon became the Director of Pre-K Program with the Unicoi County School System. She attended Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church for several years.
    Sharon coached the Unicoi County Middle School Lady Devil’s Basketball Team. She loved watching her son, the light of her life play football, basketball and baseball for the Unicoi County Blue Devils. Sharon attended all his ballgames as well as her nieces and nephews sporting events. She was a loving and devoted wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher and friend. Sharon will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. The impact Sharon’s short life made on others will be remembered forever and live on for generations to come. Heaven gained an angel.
    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Florence Seward and her paternal grandparents, John K. and Hattie Love Ritchie; father-in-law, Donnie Slagle.
    Sharon leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories of her, husband of twenty-seven years, Donnie Slagle; her son, Lucas Slagle, of the home; mother, Nancy Seward Ritchie; sister, Ronda Simpson and husband, Rob; mother-in-law, Tonette Jones and husband, Glenn; sister-in-law, Saundra Miller and husband, Dave; Uncle Randall Seward and wife, Gail; Aunt Joann Ritchie; nieces and nephews: Sydney Miller, Shelby Dean Miller, Joshua Miller, Connor Simpson and Clay Simpson; many very special cousins, friends and co-workers also survive.
    The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Noah Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
