    Notes:

    ELIZABETHTON - Effie Mae Joines, age 96, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Walker Fair. Mrs. Joines was a charter member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and working in her garden.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Norman Hubert Joines in 2000; a granddaughter, Lisa Jean Forbes; four brothers, Dayton Fair, Willie Fair, James C. Fair and John T. Fair and four sisters, Mary Ann Taylor, Kathleen Hart, Ruby Lee Burton and Ruth Herkle. Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Norma Jean Forbes, Edna Sue Mathis and Nancy Lou Cooke, all of Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Tammy Sue Hamm Miller, Timothy Douglas Carr, Carter E. Honeycutt and April Hardin, all of Elizabethton, TN; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Effie Mae Joines will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2019 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Brian Cable officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Friday prior to the service or at the residence of a daughter, Norma Forbes at other times. Interment will follow the service on Friday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Derrick Hamm, Timothy Carr, Dylan Carr, Carter Honeycutt, Richard Whitson and Brian Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Cooke, Danny Jones, Terry Buckles, Bill Mathis, Paul Hill and Bobby Emmert.

    Kathleen Fair Hart, 93, Elizabethton, passed away Friday December 7, 2018 at The Bridge Assisted Living, Ooltewah, Tennessee. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John & Annie Walker Fair. She was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe Hart, a daughter: JoAnna Fair, a son: Michael Hart, four sisters and four brothers.

    Survivors include a son & daughter-in-law: Tony & Jacque Hart, Ooltewah, TN and a daughter-in-law: Barbara Hart, Elizabethton. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one sister: Effie Joines, Elizabethton and several nieces & nephews.

    The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, in the funeral home. Funeral Service will be conducted at 4 p.m Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with her son Brigadier General (Retired) Tony Hart and Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Michelle Faust. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Notes:

    Nelta Gail Buffington, 76, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Marietta, Ga., passed away at home in Port Orange after a 2-1/2-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Gail was the middle daughter of Millard Otis Fair and Ella Mae Leach Fair, growing up in Gap Creek, Elizabethton, Tenn., with her sisters, Carolyn Leonard Cowan and June Turbyfield. She graduated in 1960 from Happy Valley High School.
    Gail married Ed Williams Jr. and moved to Cocoa, Fla., where they adopted their daughter, Angela Denise Williams Brett. Gail would later marry Alton D. Buffington in Marietta, Ga. Gail worked for over 20 years for Dr. James Kiley as the bookkeeper until retiring in 2006. She was a member of Olive Springs Baptist Church where she was an active singer with the Sweet Spirit group and helping with VBS and many other activities at the church. Gail moved to Port Orange, Fla., to live with her daughter Angela, son-in-law Randy and grandson Edwin in 2017. Gail always had a smile on her face and showed others God's word through her daily actions.
    She is survived by daughter, Angela (Williams) Brett; sister, June Turbyfield; grandson, Edwin Brett; two nieces, Kimberly Withka and Connie Johnson; nephew, Tom Turbyfield; and many close friends and church family.
    A celebration service will be held at Olive Springs Baptist Church, 1528 Austell Road, Marietta, GA 30008 on September 22, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Dr. Randy Cheek will lead the services and Doug Hines will lead music along with special music by Sweet Spirit singers.
