    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Odell Shell, 94, Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Waters of Roan Highlands after an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Edward & Belva Miller Shell. Mr. Shell was a retired employee of Tri-State Container. He was a member of Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Ellen Hicks Shell, January 1, 1980 and by several sisters & brothers. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

    Survivors include several nieces & nephews.

    Graveside Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Richardson Cemetery, Roan Mountain with the Rev. Tull Oaks, Jr. and Rev. John Henry McCoury officiating. Burial will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Odell married Amanda Ellen Hicks on 13 Oct 1951 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Amanda (daughter of Lawrence S.     Died:
    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Larry R. Shell, age 72, of Roan Mountain went home to be with the Lord following an extended illness Friday, April 30, 2021 at Johnson City Medical Center. Larry was born in Elizabethton to the late Lacy and Dora Buck Shell.

    Larry was a hard worker, who loved his family. He worked at TPI for many years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566. His favorite hobbies were camping and woodworking. The things he enjoyed most were listening to bluegrass music, gardening and visiting with his many friends.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandra Kay Shell; sister, Bobbie Shell; son, Richard Shell (Chandrea); and grandson, Dalton Shell, all of Roan Mountain.

    A visitation to memorialize the life of Larry Shell will be conducted from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church, Morgan Branch Road, Roan Mountain. A private family committal will be held at a later date.

    The family would like to thank Will Hughes, Rudolph Campbell, John Henry McCoury, Davita Smoky Mountain Dialysis, and Ballad Health doctors and staff.

    Mary Belle Hopson Miller, 71, Hampton, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at her residence .

    She was born January 13, 1949 in Elizabethton to James Hopson and the late Melissa “Tootie” Shell Hopson.

    She attended Hampton High School. Mary worked at the Carter County Sheriff Department for over 25 years. After her retirement she returned to the Sheriff Department part time. She was of the Christian Faith. Mary loved to go fishing and loved to go to auction.

    Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bill Miller.

    Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law: Christina (Jackie) Hodge . Two Grandchildren: Tasha Crowe and friend Tim Hopson and T.J. Crowe and Rustie Dugger Crowe. Four Great Grandchildren: Makaylah Crowe, Jaykob Crowe , Nicholas Loveless, Jr. and Carl Loveless. Her father: James Hopson. Two Sisters: JoAnn (Jody) Crowe, Janice Hopson and friend, Jimmy Brewer. Her brother-in-law: Robert (Linda) Miller. One Niece: Jordan Emmert and One Nephew: Jonathan Crowe.

    Graveside Service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020 in the Perkins Cemetery (Upper Shell Creek), Roan Mountain with Mr. Scott Fisher, Minister officiating. Active Pallbearers will be: T.J. Crowe, Johnathan Crowe, Officer Mike Carlock, Constable Myles Cook, Jimmy Brewer and Craig Emmert. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jody Crowe Tim Hopson, Jr., Charlie Hopson and Officers of the Carter County Detention Center.
