MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. Ralph Earl Crowder "Papaw", age 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Mountain City Care Center surrounded by his loving family. Ralph was born July 6, 1921, in Johnson County to the late Wiley and Pearl Moretz Crowder. Ralph retired from Raytheon Company of Bristol following 25 years of service. He was appointed to the Johnson County Election Commission in 1988, and retired in April, 2009 having served for 21 years. Ralph loved woodworking and building things for his family. He also enjoyed gardening. Ralph was a Shriner and a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge No. 243. He had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1994. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters; Pearl Warren, Leah Moretz, Thelma Campbell, Blanche Dennison, Ruby Dean Crowder and Jennie Keene; and brother Roger Crowder. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lee Rash Crowder; two daughters, Dee Bury and husband Morris of Bristol, Tenn., and Kaye Muse and husband John of Mountain City; grandchildren, Amanda Chatterton and husband Michael, Eden Buchanan and husband Brian, Marilee Larson and husband Nathan and Hallie Mahala and husband Cliff; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Hannah Chatterton, John Gavin Mahala and Noah Larson; two sisters, Edith Cornett and Gladys Campbell; two brothers, J. C. Crowder and Wiley Crowder. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and his extended family, the Trula Muse family. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the First Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ricky Campbell and Bro. Warren Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Va. Pallbearers will be Morris Bury, John Muse, Michael Chatterton, Brian Buchanan, Cliff Mahala, Nathan Larson, Tom Muse and Jim Muse. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Chatterton, Pat Greene, Farris Thomas, John Payne, members of John Payne's Sunday School Class, Dr. Floyd Barker and nephews. Ruby Dean Crowder. . .
Ruby Dean Crowder, age 31 of Mountain City, Route 2, died at her home Sunday at 6:20 p.m. (October 2) after a lengthy illness. A native of Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Wiley T. Crowder and Mrs. Pearl Shell. She was a member of Clinton Chapel Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include the mother, Mrs. Pearl C. Shell, Mountain City; four brothers, Ralph Crowder, J.C. Crowder, Roger Crowder, all of Mountain City; Wiley Crowder, Newark, Del.; seven sisters, Mrs. Pearl Warren, Mrs. Leah Moretz, both of Shouns, Mrs. Blanche Dennison Elkton, Md., Mrs. Thelma Campbell, Abingdon, Va., Mrs. Edith Cornett, Mrs. Jennie L. Keene and Gladys Crowder, all of Mountain City.
Funeral services were conducted from the Clinton Chapel Presbyterian Church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. October 4, with the Rev. J.R. Woodson, Rev. Edsel Farthing, Rev. Dan Graham and Rev. Abe Aldridge and Rev. Bill Williams offiicating[sic]. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus, Va.
Pallbearers were Howard Miller, Bill McCloud, Bobby Robbins, Henry Reeves, Joe Reeves, Truett Tester and Sam Neely, Joe Triplett, Arthur Leffman, Frank Maxwell. Flower bearers were ladies of the church and neighbors.

Lorraine McCloud, age 69, of 421 Wilson Avenue, Mountain City, TN, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 11, 2012, in Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.

She was born January 6, 1943, to the late John and Leah Crowder Moretz. Lorraine was a member of Nelsons Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU and also loved working in the church nursery.

She also loved cooking, reading her Bible, flowers, canning, walking and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McCloud; son, Gary McCloud; and one sister, Janice Robbins.

Survivors include: one son: Larry McCloud and wife, Sandra, of Mountain City, TN; daughter-in-law: Tammy McCloud, of Mountain City, TN; two sisters: Mary Miller and husband, Jimmy, and Helen Arnold and husband, Bud, all of Mountain City, TN; three grandchildren: Will McCloud, Leah McCloud and Ally McCloud; and several nieces and nephews. Special friends Trula Muse, Billie Ruth Tester, Jeannie Wilson, Ima Jean Payne, Nancy Brown and Donna Kerley also survive.

Funeral services for Lorraine McCloud were conducted Thursday, September 13, 2012, with Rev. Sam Icenhour and Mr. Richard Grubb officiating.

Graveside service and interment followed in Rainbow Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Mike Miller, Greg Miller, Jeff Miller, David Arnold, Robert Bower and Robert Robbins. Honorary pallbearers Richard Robbins, Randy McCloud, Steve McCloud, Tim McCloud, Eddie Lambert, Dr. Donald Tarr and staff, Dr. Sobel and staff and Johnson County Community Center staff.
